Frank Field is resigning the party whip and will serve as an independent MP in protest of the party’s excuses over anti semitism and bullying in the party

After 39 years of being a labour MP

Shame on you Corbyn, shame on you

PECS Fri 31-Aug-18 22:04:54

Absolutely Iam ..and so many refugees have done that..including my dad and his brother.

Grandad1943 Fri 31-Aug-18 22:19:27

Iam64 yes I have visited he Auschwitz death camp when my wife, me and a group of lifelong friends took a football tour holiday which between matches took in the death camp and the famous battlefields and cemeteries of the first and second world war.

No one can be anything else but the most deeply moved of their life in going round that camp and for Margaret Hodge to equate that to her position in the Labour Party inquiry in nothing short of being the lowest of the low.

In that, will never give anyone any apology for that statement.

Anniebach Fri 31-Aug-18 22:31:13

Margaret Hodge did not equate her position in the party inquiry with the death camps.

Grandad1943 Fri 31-Aug-18 22:41:08

Hodge equated her position in the Labour party inquiry with those families waiting for the Nazi henchmen to come for them and transport them to those camps.

As stated how low can any person sink in equating their position in an inquiry to that of those families.

She said: "On the day that I heard they were going to discipline me and possibly suspend me, I kept thinking: what did it feel like to be a Jew in Germany in the 30s? It felt almost as if they were coming for me."

Coolgran65 Sat 01-Sept-18 07:12:30

Sorry, I thought the heading was Frank Ifield...... smile

Iam64 Sat 01-Sept-18 07:21:56

Thanks PECS, that is exactly what she said. It's what prompted my long post about the way in which my own families experiences informs my politics and feelings about oppression and disadvantage.

Cindersdad Sat 01-Sept-18 07:33:13

I generally agree with Frank Field except that he is a Brexiteer who is yet to explain why.

His stand against the anti-semitism and left wing bullying in the Labour party provides a ray of hope in the demise of Momentum and Jeremy Corbyn as leader. With Jeremy Corbyn as leader Labour will never be acceptable to the majority of the country despite the ineptitude of the present government.

Anniebach Sat 01-Sept-18 08:30:31

Thank you PECS

Anniebach Sat 01-Sept-18 08:38:09

He may be out of the party in two weeks Cindersdad, if there is a by election and Corbyn/Momentum win, all hope of a strong oposition lost.

Think much will depend on the vote next week. Not coincidence that Frank Field spoke out days before the vote.

Grandad1943 Sat 01-Sept-18 08:51:06

Cindersdad quote [With Jeremy Corbyn as leader Labout will never be acceptable to the majority of the country despite the ineptitude of the present government.] end quote

Well, I seem to recall that the 2017 was called by TM because the Tories had a twenty point lead over Labour in the opinion polls and that no one would vote for Corbyn in the election.

I seem to recall further that the Conservative party lost their overall majority in that election because so many voters backed Corbyn and his party. smile

Anniebach Sat 01-Sept-18 08:58:38

Corbyn lost.

oldbatty Sat 01-Sept-18 09:31:15

I doubt any of us can really " get our heads round" the Nazi death camps.

Anniebach Sat 01-Sept-18 09:59:43

When I watch a documentary on those camps I still feel such despair, can’t imagine how I would feel if my granny and extended family had died in them. It must affect your whole life.

maddyone Sat 01-Sept-18 10:10:31

Yes Annie, you’re right, Corbyn lost, however small the government’s majority, he still lost!

Yes oldbatty, I have visited several of the Nazi concentration camps, and you’re right, none of us could ever get our heads around them, the whole policy is so far from any of our experience, thank goodness.

Why does Frank Field have to explain why he is a Brexiteer? I thought we all had a free vote, including politicians.

It seems to me that Frank Field was one of the most respected politicians by both the public and his colleagues in the House of Commons. The whole sorry story is so very sad. What an indictment of our politics and our society.

maddyone Sat 01-Sept-18 10:18:24

I’ve read a few biographies about Jewish people who were in the camps and also those those who evaded capture by hiding or living as a none Jew, always afraid of being denounced. I have visited Germany many times, and although I love the country, it always goes through my mind, how could the ordinary people have supported this policy. Of course, that’s simplistic, they didn’t really have a choice, and many didn’t support it, and of course, across the world, not just Germany, there was always an undercurrent of anti semitism. That’s why so many countries, including ours, despite the Kinder Transport, refused to take many Jews as refugees. It’s a complicated subject. But when I visit Germany ( my last visit in February of this year) I do wonder.

Anniebach Sat 01-Sept-18 10:25:05

In 1970 S O Davies MP for Merthyr was de selected because of age, he stood as Independant Socialist. just a couple of years before he had battled with Wilson for making the people of Aberfan pay towards removal of the tips and with the unions for keeping Lord Roberns in his job regardless that he lied about the tip.

Davies was returned as MP. I hope the voters of Frank Fields constituency do the same as we did and remember the good Frank has done for them.

trisher Sat 01-Sept-18 10:42:43

I was wondering if someone could explain to me how it is respecting and honouring those who died in camps and ghettos under the Nazis to use that experience to criticise the way a democratic party deals with a complaint against you? It seems to me a way of cheapening the whole thing for political gain.

Anniebach Sat 01-Sept-18 10:57:14

Democratic Party? No longer . A Democratic Party would not allow bullying and threats and racism. Members of a Democratic Party are free to speak out, the Tory party is more democratic than the Corbyn/Momentum Party.

Anniebach Sat 01-Sept-18 10:58:07

Does not a democracy allow freedom of speech?

trisher Sat 01-Sept-18 11:00:44

Then join them Annie you have no committment or interest in the labour movement anymore so why hang on? Many of us left when Blair hi-jacked the party. I notice you are as usual trying to deflect from the question I assume that is because actually you know it isn't showuing respect and it was done for political gain.

trisher Sat 01-Sept-18 11:01:46

Of course she is free to say what she wants Annie just as I am free to examine her motives.

Anniebach Sat 01-Sept-18 11:11:32

I have no wish to join them trisher, and your comments telling me to leave the party , questioning my commitment to the true Labour Party seems like momentum bullying . I could suggest you join the communist party but respect your freedom to choose which party you join.

David Blunkett has now voiced his opinions on the bullying, in the party , another MP has said he is now considering leaving the party.

I experienced bullying from the extreme left in the eighties so nothing you say surprises me.

Question

Frank Field is being vilified for being a Brexiter.

Corbyn remains a hero yet he was for decades a well known anti EU MP until he became Labour Leader and lost his principle presumably and now backs Remaining in the EU.

WHY

Corbyn is a supposed ' Man of Principle' a ' Conviction Politician' and is feted by his followers.

Frank Field is being vilified because he is doing the exact same.

WHY

How many times have we had threads covering so many topics and it has been said our MP's should vote with their conscience/ vote in accordance with their constituency voters.

Well Frank Fields constituency of Birkenhead voted :-
Birkenhead

Leave – 21,787 (51.7%)
Remain – 20,348 (48.3%)

I hope if/when Frank Field is booted out he decides to stand as an Independent and the constituency of Birkenhead vote for him in in droves. No doubt the vote for a monkey in a@#£@& flag will win but at least he can hold HIS head high in my book at least.

Hypocrisy abounds in Corbyn Labour.

trisher Sat 01-Sept-18 11:15:17

I see you still haven't answered the question Annie just made it personal again so I will repeat it. Does it show respect to use the experiences of people who died under the Nazis to criticise the way you are being treated by the political party you belong to?
Missed out democratic for you!
