Corbyn in trouble

John McDonald gave an interview yesterday concerned the party could split.

A spokeswoman for UNITE just gave an interview, she thinks Corbyn is naive, fights for the underdog even if they are wrong. Is guided by the wrong people such as Seumas Milne who are not labour members.

The party is not now the party she has always known.

Then praised John McDonald

The Labour Party has a real problem but it's not Brexit or Zionism or MP loyalty, their real problem is the party members electing the leader.

Members are activists who are always going to elect a left wing candidate who wants radical change and that is not going to be popular with voters in general. My own politics are centre left and could never vote for Corbyn ( it doesn't matter anyhow I live in a safe Tory seat).

Once this Brexit mess is sorted out I'm sure there will be a move for a moderate left wing party to form. Nobody expected Macron to sweep the establishment aside, in due course it will happen here.

So Corbyns best and probably only chance of election is now and who knows it could happen.

MI5 want to have Corbyn attend a meeting to impress upon him the importance of national security.
bet they have a fat dossier on him from the past, no wonder they are worried!

Anniebach Sun 02-Sept-18 19:53:06

Diana, I think the very same, the extreme left are in control of the party, I too am centre left , I didn’t want the party to break up but now I wish the moderate left would break away , there are many of them, yet I understand their reluctance, the Labour Party was so like a very large family, yes rows, but with exception of the militants a deep loyalty to the party. God help the country if Corbyn became PM

Anniebach Sun 02-Sept-18 19:54:57

lemon, that’s a waste of time , he doesn’t care a fig about national security in my opinion, his past alliances speak for themselves.

Wouldn't be the first time a Labour leader has been an interest for MI5. There was a huge file on Harold Wilson, and an alleged plot to spy on him because the Americans thought he was a Soviet agent. Personally if MI5 are involved in anything I suspect dark deeds.

Anniebach Sun 02-Sept-18 20:36:06

If MI5 are involved could be they suspect dark deeds !

trisher Sun 02-Sept-18 20:44:51

No they perform dark deeds. They were actively spying on and monitoring Wilson, arguably they are why he resigned.

Anniebach Sun 02-Sept-18 20:48:15

He resigned because dementia had been diagnosed

Devorgilla Sun 02-Sept-18 20:54:34

I can't understand why people are surprised people in power are spied on. It's being going on since time immemorial. My husband's father had checks run on him every time my husband, as a young student, went on a demonstration. It was a bit of a family joke. And they were small fry in the great scheme of political things.

Speaking out against the israeli state id NOT anti semitism, neither is supporting the people of Palestine.Like most people with any sense we can see that Israel MUST be treated like any other country where the ill treatment of civilians is concerned. We cant let the holocaust colour our decisions ,yes we know what happened and we know the pain still exists BUT Israel cant be allowed to carry on destroying families and lives in the way they have for decades now .I am NOT anti semitic ,the time has come when the State of Israel has to abide by UN resolutions .

" Speaking out against the israeli state id NOT anti semitism, neither is supporting the people of Palestine."

At last something we agree on but that is also stated in The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) is it not?

Diana54 Sun 02-Sept-18 21:43:08

If Corbyn were to win power it is likely to be in cahoots with the SNP so policies will get diluted, after austerity for so long the result will no doubt please many.

When it comes to MI5 Corbyns past is known ( as far as we know ). Nobody has mentioned Michael Foot I'm sure MI5 had a very thick file on him too.

IMHO a lot of this Zionist issue is being perpetuated by the Israel lobby in the Tory party and they are making a pretty good job of it too

annodomini Sun 02-Sept-18 21:46:12

It's interesting that the Miliband brothers are keeping a very low profile in the course of this blood-letting in the Labour Party. I haven't heard anything about them. Have you?

Anniebach Sun 02-Sept-18 21:50:59

Diana, the Tory party cannot be blamed for things which have been said,

Anniebach Sun 02-Sept-18 22:09:43

Celebrating Passover with Jewdas was so wrong, he surely knew about them .

Sitting in silence when Ruth Smeeth was verbally abused by a Momentum activist and then to greet the acitvist after the meeting was again so wrong.

To attend a wreath laying ceromony to Palastinian terrotists then say - I don’t think I was involved,

Turned down an invitation to visit the Holocaust Museum in Israel claiming he was too busy,

Again remaining silent when a NEC member ranted about Jews.

None of these can be blamed on anyone but him.

Anniebach Sun 02-Sept-18 22:11:30

David Milliband works in America

" IMHO a lot of this Zionist issue is being perpetuated by the Israel lobby in the Tory party and they are making a pretty good job of it to "

Interesting. Can you explain or give some sort of detail as to why you believe this.

Do you think the Labour MP's, councillors who have said there is a problem are in cahoots with those you call Tory party Israel lobbyists?

Diana54 Mon 03-Sept-18 07:06:40

It is exactly the sort of under the radar mischief that the Tory dirty tricks department does, do not underestimate them. They were very active during the referendum and are implicated in the Alex Salmond affair, TM has done well to sidestep their efforts so far, she must have a very good advisor looking after her interests
I am very cynical about party politics, why not discredit your rival, perpetuate the agony the media love it, Corbyn does make himself an easy target though.
There are plenty of Labour MPs and councillors who dislike Corbyn, others just want the issue to go away, no coordination though.

As an aside comment. I was discussing Brexit with one of my cousins last week, extreme Brexit views, for emotional reasons ( her words), she wanted JR-M as PM. There are a lot of extreme right wing views circulating.

OldMeg Mon 03-Sept-18 07:33:45

Annie you are using GN as a platform to advertise your hatred for Jeremy Corbyn. As one thread peters out then another gets started.

I’m hoping there are enough free thinkers out there to realise that one person’s opinion is just that. As Duana has just pointed out there are a lot of extreme right wing views circulating, especially as those on the left of the political divide have somehow not been seen or heard on GN for a long time.

Wonder what happened to them?

MaizieD Mon 03-Sept-18 07:53:48

Wonder what happened to them?

Got tired of having their heads in permanent contact with brick walls?
Some of them left Gnet.

Good post,*OldMeg*.

Anniebach Mon 03-Sept-18 08:08:58

Diana, how can anyone be held responsible for Corbyn’s words and actions except Corbyn?

Anniebach Mon 03-Sept-18 08:35:31

There are still strong voiced far left posters on the forum

OldMeg Mon 03-Sept-18 08:44:04

Did they leave voluntarily then MaizieD?

MaizieD Mon 03-Sept-18 09:10:00

They did, OldMeg.

I'm a relatively new poster but I've noticed that attempts to introduce political issues or concepts for discussion, rather than personalities, tend to die a death. It can be frustrating but if that's what most posters want (i.e personalities rather than issues) then perhaps some people find that withdrawing is the best option.

Anniebach Mon 03-Sept-18 09:16:21

Maizie, you mean like a thread on Mrs May’s attempts to dance ?
