The woman who defaced the Jewish memorial in Warsaw is a supporter of the Palestinian cause. I don't criticise in any way support for Palestinians and I do criticise the actions of the current Israeli government towards the Palestinian people.
I do criticise anyone who defaces a memorial in this way.

One of my concerns about the people targeted for possible deselection is that so far as I've been able to establish, they are all seen as either Friends of Israel or people who have spoken out against what they see as anti semitism in the LP. I'd be relieved to hear this isn't the case.

POGS Wed 12-Sept-18 17:47:55

Iam 64

Of course they are !

Alongside any MP that criticises Corbyn / Momentum.

How many times over the years since Corbyn became Labour Leader have we heard of or read of Labour MP's / Councillors being threatened with deselection , abusive meetings and social media hatred. . Even at the sittings in Parliament Labour MP's report of the aggression they receive from within the Labour Party itself.

trisher Thu 13-Sept-18 18:08:27

Isn't it amazing how people who aren't Labour supporters or members know so much about how many and even which MPs are going to be deselected. ( Or could it be they are just regurgitating a load of right wing misinformation?)

Anniebach Thu 13-Sept-18 18:28:30

Anyone can read the names on the hit list.

trisher Thu 13-Sept-18 18:32:41

And anyone can make up a hit list (doesn't make it true)

Anniebach Thu 13-Sept-18 18:39:09

If it was made up someone must be able to see into the future.

trisher Thu 13-Sept-18 18:47:36

What??? Sorry you are losing it Annie everything made up isn't true and has very little to do with the future ( The things that might happen if some of the fiction I've read was actually true prophesy!)

Grandad1943 Thu 13-Sept-18 19:01:25

trisher, much of what anniebach posts is fiction to the extent she stated that "all union members during the Blair government were Male, single and childless"

And that after being a member of the Labour movement for twenty five years.

trisher Thu 13-Sept-18 19:23:44

I suppose if you can reconcile some of the things Annie has posted with believing you remain a true Labour supporter it's possible to believe anything. As the White Queen said "Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast."

lemongrove Thu 13-Sept-18 22:27:09

then you are a bit like the White Queen yourself trisher
including believing there is no or little antisemitism within the Labour Party! Believing that Corbyn would make a great PM [grin etc etc.

trisher Fri 14-Sept-18 11:14:38

Oh the impossible things I have and do believe lemon
Shall I do today's 6?
1. That some of the openly right wing people on GN will admit what they are.
2. That somebody from this group will post policies they actually believe in
3. That people who benefitted from a socialist welfare state will fight for the preservation of said state.
4. That those who make accusations of anti-semitism actually understand what it is (and condemn it when it's not the Labour Party)
5. That someone on GN will enter into a real discussion
6. That some people can understand the difference between socialism and communism.
6 impossible things. But I live in hope.

lemongrove Fri 14-Sept-18 11:20:50

Yes, understandable trisher it must be disappointing for you that so few GNers are up to your rigorous standards of debate, and are far below your level of intelligence.Or, wait a minute...… simply don't agree with your political thoughts.

trisher Fri 14-Sept-18 11:29:29

Ah * lemon* you are taking the debate issue to a new level. I'm always pleased to discuss and support my beliefs, and don't mind people who have other ideas. The point is you don't have any (ideas I mean) Just the ability to snipe at others. And frankly it's boring.

lemongrove Fri 14-Sept-18 11:44:48

That was exactly the reply I expected.
the fact is trisher that you do mind people with other ideas, and to use the old 'very few are capable of debating' is
frankly insulting to most on GN.I don't suppose that will stop you though.

trisher Fri 14-Sept-18 12:01:47

I am always willing to debate lemonand have many times posted the policies I believe in and the sort of government I would like to see. If you are genuinely interested in debate and not just in making accusations perhaps you would like to say what policies you believe in? It's a question I have asked many times and guess what I still don't know!
It is impossible to debate if someone just makes accusations I agree. There are a few posters who are willing to enter into discussion. But not many.

lemongrove Fri 14-Sept-18 13:12:26

Why would they bother, when your tone and attitude is as it is trisher [schoolmarmy/self righteous/knowall.]

In any case, most posters would want fair policies which benefit the vast amount of the population, a safety net for the unfortunate, a vibrant economy, chances for all etc etc.

How those objectives are achieved can vary wildly, in fact all political parties can achieve them, doing things in different ways. We Gransnetters can make up policies on the hoof all we like, but we have to realise we are not the ones implementing them [as to whether they work or not.]
I do not believe [unlike you] that Corbyn is any kind of messiah, but rather somebody who would risk the security of the UK and ruin the economy chasing his rigid ideals, nor do I think he is intelligent enough or strong enough to be PM.

Anniebach Fri 14-Sept-18 13:26:35

lemon, leaving aside my mistrust of Corbyn I too do not think he is intellegent enough or strong enough to be PM , he doesn’t ‘do’ off the cuff interviews and his questions and responses at PMQ are written down for/by him .

grannypauline Fri 14-Sept-18 17:09:33

I'm still waiting for the Centrists to tell us what their programme is - what they see as the main problems political parties need to deal with, and how they, or their party, would solve them.

Anniebach Fri 14-Sept-18 17:11:39

There is no centre left party,

trisher Fri 14-Sept-18 18:18:03

lemon I have never as you imply regarded Corbyn as a 'messiah'. I am pleased that the Labour party has managed to return to the principles it was built on.
The discussion about a centrist party is interesting. Once it was firmly established that the Conservative party was right wing, the Liberal party centrist and the Labour party left wing. Then came Tony Blair and boundaries slipped. The Liberal party was more left wing than Labour. Corbyn has simply returned the party to its proper place.

Jalima1108 Fri 14-Sept-18 18:37:27

Perhaps, then, it is not the message (which I have linked to on another thread a while ago) - it is the messenger(s) which is/are the problem, as so many in the country seem to distrust him/them- amongst them life-time Labour supporters whom I know.

OldMeg Fri 14-Sept-18 19:20:49

I’d give up if I were you trisher. You’ve put your 6 points very clearly and succinctly and that’s all you can do. I have read them. Good points all of them.

To be dismissed as elitist, know-it-all, etc. only proves your point. I would actually say that it is impossible to get a decent political debate going on GN any more. Those with the capacity have simply bowed out of the political threads, and who can blame them?

lemongrove Fri 14-Sept-18 19:32:35

So you ( of course) OldMeg are one of the elite top class debaters on GN I suppose? When are posters going to stop
Using this tired old comment about others on here, loftily saying ‘debate is impossible’ ( they may as well add ‘you plebs’)

OldMeg Fri 14-Sept-18 19:40:36

Indeed we might, because that is how it seems to be these days, but of course we wouldn’t actually say that.

Yes, I’ve debated with the best and I don’t mind admitting it. We were actually taught the rules of debate at school and then used these to good purpose at Uni.

Spit and fuss as much as you like, but you can hardly think that this is anything but puerile.

OldMeg Fri 14-Sept-18 19:43:57

And, as such I will take my own advice to trisher ........ and I could probably write the next few posts as predictability is guaranteed and originality a rare quality.
