Is this the beginning of the end for Brexit?
(225 Posts)Most of us pro REMAIN voters certainly hope so. Even Tory moderates like Justine Greening and Dominic Grieve see a second referendum as the best option for the country. We cannot just disregard the original referendum even though we know it was based on many lies. The only way to resolve the situation democratically is to give the people another say, this time hopefully better informed.
Theresa May is probably a Remainer at heart and still the only Tory capable of being Premier. She was left with an impossible job after the referendum stuck in a political hard place between right wing idealogues and common sense. Now perhaps she may yield to common sense and give democracy and the country another chance.
The world has moved on since June 2016 and the UK electorate has demographic has changed. More younger voters whose future it is can now have a say, sadly some of us oldies have passed away. The interference of Russia and even Trump is understood.
World War 2 started 21 years after World War 1, European Unity has resulted is over 70 years of a mainly peaceful Europe. Brexit could harm that and it simply is not worth it and there is nothing good about Brexit.
The Head of Nissan now says there is no point warning the UK of the likely future decisions for the UK Nissan plants- because they will just be labelled as 'fear mongering'.
As James O'Brien clearly states:
"It has essentially created an environment in which a massive employer decides it's not even worth talking in public any more because he knows that when he has finished explaining how Nissan is doing, the BBC and other media outlets will turn to some absolute sugarpuff like Jacob Rees-Mogg or Nadine Dorries and ask them to offer up the 'balanced' position.
"So you end up creating the environment in which the Chief Executive of Nissan won't even bother telling us what's going on at Nissan because he knows that he'll have some halfwit on the other side of the studio shouting 'Project Fear'.
"Wow. And still, this won't move the needle for anyone listening to this programme. That's the head of Nissan, but you know better, right?"
Unilever has announced that it is keeping its HQ in U.K. and not relocating to Rotterdam.
There are also comments coming through on media sources about the Irish Border, in as much as if UK was to agree a Canada plus deal, the only border checks needed would be plants and animals, which already happen.
The Unilever shareholders voted against the move so they hand to capitulate - not the outcome the company desired.
Unilever shareholders would have to sell up if the HQ relocated so they voted to keep their dosh flowing. The company wanted to simplify operations. Doesn’t say much for Brexit if the best leavers can say is the fat cats will be be able to keep their money.
Bristol businessman Aaron Banks has been linked to a suspected Russian spy in explosive new revelations over alleged Russian tampering in the Brexit referendum.
Millionaire Banks, who donated £12million to the Brexit campaign, previously denied meeting any Russian diplomats beyond one “boozy lunch” at the Embassy.
But the Mirror reports documents leaked over the weekend seem to show he had other undisclosed meetings with the Russian ambassador and businessmen, according to explosive reports in the Sunday Times and Observer newspapers.
The reports say meetings were set up by a suspected Russian spy. These new revelations raise questions about the extent of Russian influence over the result of the Brexit referendum.

Banks is married to a Russian and cannot account for the source of his funds. If this is not the beginning of the end of brexit, it should be. Putin, Trump and the French fascist Matine le Pen were the only political leaders in the world who backed brexit. That 2016 referendum was misconceived and fraudulent. Why should we destroy the future of our country to please Putin, Trump and other fascists?
And Isabel Oakeshott, who has been screaming pro Brexit, all over the place and so many times on Question Time- has been sitting on this vital information for a long time- in order to make more money on the sale of her book.
She should be judged and sentenced for espionnage and treason.
Chongolo74 T. You should be thoroughly ashamed. You sound like a jingoistic imperialist. The sooner our generation has gone ( well people with you romanticised views of what is British) the better! Brexshit is the biggest act of self -harm possible! If you support people like Boris and Rees Mogg I doubt you have any moral compass!
So, our Brexit friends- should she, or should she not? Re Isabel Oakeshott?
It is treason, no, clear as a bell? Should she get away with treason, especially when driven by sheer greed?
Vehicles made and approved in the UK could no longer be sold in the EU if Britain crashes out without a deal, a shock government document admits.
EU “type-approval” would no longer be granted to prove the vehicles “comply with safety and environmental standards”, it warned.
It was issued just two days after the boss of Jaguar Land Rover attacked Theresa May’s Brexit strategy, warning that that tens of thousands of jobs were being put at risk.

It is indeed a source of a bit of mithering.
Just a smidgin' of mithering here- but don't worry, you might still be able to get cheap baked beans from Aldi (well not sure, but you've got to keep your hopes up)

Even Rural areas like Wiltshire learnt yesterday that major manufacturing is moving to Europe, Today we learn that Kent motorway is likely to become grid locked, due to Passport controls and Lorry checks.
The Department for Transport (DfT) is developing plans under Operation Brock to handle queues of thousands of lorries, should freight be unable to progress swiftly through the ports after Brexit – possibly from March.
Work has started on the M20, with further closures ahead, with the DfT earmarking a 13.5-mile stretch between Maidstone and Ashford as a holding park. Is Brexit worth it, I no longer think it is?
Stop all this mithering MarthaB - just go to Aldi for middle isle bargain you never knew you needed, and will probably never use - but it will cheer you up no end... sort of (and end up in landfill soon - or someone will scavenge it with Gove's permission).
Jura - what's the matter with you? I'm speechless ...........
Fennel- I am sure MarthaB knows where my 'sarchastic' comment came from, and was not 'aimed at her'.
Again and again, some of us are trying to have a proper debate and discussion - but no answers ever from the Brexiters here- apart from, in short 'stop mithering'.
No medicines - stop mithering
no haulage = no imports/exports - stop mithering
no solution for Irish border- stop mithering
doctors, nurses, care workers, fruit and veg pickers leaving in droves and not being replaced - stop mithering
Cheaper food from Germany will save the day - and that middle isle is just the bee's knees.
So, yes, speechless indeed.
It keeps reminding me of the start of one of my favourite French films:
youtu.be/AyKookhlYeA
it is the story of a man who is falling from the 50th floor- as he falls he keeps reassuring himself, so far, so good, so far, so good - but it is not the fall which is the problem, but the landing. We have not left yet, be it with Checkers, no deal, or whatever - the landing is to come, soon.
Mithered - you bet.
The major problem now as I see it would be that we do not have a stable government able to take any decisive action on Brexit.
The above contributes enormously to the problems Britain faced with Brexit if such a thing as an orderly withdraw had been planned by the Leave leaders. Obviously that was not the case.
WHICH magazine, this left wing extremist rag, is mithering a bit
In its report - Brexit no deal: a consumer catastrophe? - Which? says: “Our latest consumer research shows that most people are unprepared for what 'no deal' would mean in practice - and many do not understand how it would have multiple impacts across so many aspects of their daily lives.
“When the everyday repercussions and government's plans on issues such as food and medical supplies were explained to people in our research, many people were shocked and questioned why they had not been made aware of the implications sooner.”
Oh but they do exagerate, honestly (not):

Major distribution companies have been carrying out research and limited trials in their warehouses on whether ending Just in Time Distribution is possible on short term notice.
In one distribution company all three trials have demonstrated that a change to a "holdover" type distribution system would not be possible in their existing distribution centres as the size of those centres would not accommodate such operations. Other trials by distribution companies have proved similar results it is believed.
The three distribution centres that were trialled above, all distribute to major supermarket chains.
So, stock up your larder ladies, it looks like it will be needed.
Who will accept responsibility when things start to go wrong? The government will say: "We gave you the referendum. You voted Leave so don't blame us. Who will sort out the mess and pay for it?
I don't know Greta- but apparently it is the end of austerity ?!?
Greta what they is true a majority, albeit a small one, did vote to leave but many of us including some remainers did not fully understand the implications of leaving. Now most us understand the situation a great deal better. The consequences of Brexit will affect us to many years to come plus several million younger voters who could not vote last time can now vote and it is their future which is at stake.
