The Nasty Labour Party - what they really stand for.

Rod Liddle took Labour to the cleaners on Question Time. I fully agree with his assessment.

“I really wish that the people who were taken in by [Labour] and agreed with that, would look to the left beyond the podium and see the rabble with their Palestinian flags and their lanyards sponsored by Hamas, would look to the raft of hypocrites on the Labour front bench. Thornberry, Abbott, Chakrabarti – all of whom don’t want you to send your kids to private schools or selective schools but do so for their kids, and for Corbyn and McDonnell, who have given support and succour to every possible hostile, violent, anti-democratic terrorist regime or organisation they can. IRA, Hamas, Hezbollah, Soviet Union, Cuba, Venezuela.

If you want people like that running your country, vote for Corbyn.”

Yet you posted on it

jura2 Sun 07-Oct-18 17:45:02

The 'nasty' Labour party thread was first posted by your friend- the 'nasty' young Conservatives sadly mirrored this- pot, kettle style.

Not of my choosing.

Day6 is your GN bestie though, no ;)

Chewbacca Sun 07-Oct-18 18:29:54

Oh for goodness jura your posts are becoming more and more childish and silly now. If you feel so strongly about the title of a discussion, take it up with GNHQ but for heaven's sake stop with the "Day6 is your bestie" type comments. It's just so ridiculous and deters anyone from joining in a discussion. Please. Enough. Let's just move on with the discussion at hand.

lemongrove Sun 07-Oct-18 18:33:30

Exactly!
You said ‘Hear hear NatashaGransnet’ about the thread moving on, so how about doing just that jura.

Anniebach Sun 07-Oct-18 18:34:48

I don’t do ‘besties’

Day6 Sun 07-Oct-18 20:12:34

Good grief Jura! Do grow up!

I posted the transcript of Rod Liddle's criticism -broadcast to the nation on Question Time!

I completely sympathise with Annie, as do many, many posters who appreciate her anger that the Labour Party has been hijacked by Marxists, and now has an NEC made up of his Momentum supporters.

You are another who uses the word "Conservative" (or Tory) as if it were a dirty word. Another living in the past who imagines only the wealthy support the Conservatives.

Time to appreciate that working people and those with very little now have more in common with them than they do with Labour. It is a crying shame, but one does have to ask, is the Labour Party now redundant and just a vehicle for revolutionaries to board?

Day6 Sun 07-Oct-18 20:13:22

Or anarchists even.

MawBroon Sun 07-Oct-18 20:14:39

Day6 is your GN bestie though, no ;)

What is this childish talk of “besties”?
Does anybody over the age of 14 actually use words like that - especially in such a derogatory way?

PECS Sun 07-Oct-18 20:34:40

I have always tried to keep debates, regarding politics, focussed on the published policies rather than personalities. I don't always manage it I know but if we all focussed more on policies or what is actually said by politicians rather than what media outlets' opinions or spins are we could have decent debates. Vitriol about personalities is not very helpful to debate.

trisher Sun 07-Oct-18 20:45:52

It is quite funny that the people who criticise the Labour party do so by using expressions such as it being hijacked by Marxists actually the party has gone back to its original roots which were always that of democratic socialism. I know that some of you find this concept difficult to understand and it requires a little more effort than hard left Marxism, but surely reality is worth it. As for this concept constantly being promoted that somehow the left believe all Tories are wealthy well I have posted about this before. But it is, once again, a myth some choose to believe.
And what do I, or any other person who believes in the principles of a welfare state, and that the most vulnerable people in society deserve protection and support, have in common with Tories? Nothing. They are ruining the education system, have presided over the continuing privatisation of the NHS (and have openly advocated this), have created an economy where zero hours contracts have undermined workers' rights, and will, once Brexit has been completed, begin to slowly eradicate the rest of the legislation which has underpinned environmental, consumer and human rights. Why? because they believe that what ultimately counts is not people but profit.

All those gransnetters who love and support the NHS could you please do something positive to help save it from cuts and being sold off to private businesses.

Signed and shared Thanks

PECS Sun 07-Oct-18 21:05:08

I personally know quite a number of Tory voters who are not particularly wealthy but just reactionary in their outlook. I know some who are reliant on benefits who are also right wing in their opinions so I am fully aware that, like Labour supporters, Tory voters cover a whole spectrum of socio economic backgrounds. Is it fair to say that the political parties have 'traditional' voters?

Anniebach Sun 07-Oct-18 21:16:05

I think both parties have traditional and new voters. Yet the loyalty is weakening. The biggest shock I got was when Rhondda voted Plaid Cymru for their Welsh Government member , it even made the News and not just BBC Wales news. If Rhondda can do it , is any seat safe

jura2 Sun 07-Oct-18 21:53:06

Signed- even today, Mrs May has totally refused to refute that the sale of the NHS will not be part of a deal with the USA (you know, those champions of health care for all - NOT).

Anniebach Sun 07-Oct-18 22:15:59

What was signed ?

Jalima1108 Sun 07-Oct-18 23:03:13

Anniebach I think this affects NHS England - obviously anyone is entitled to sign the petition but if you live in another country is it right to do so?

paddyann Sun 07-Oct-18 23:06:19

NHS England budget affects the budgets of the other Uk NHS' so yes we should all sign it .If the budget for Nhs England is cut then the others are cut by the same percentage

Jalima1108 Sun 07-Oct-18 23:14:03

Does it mention the budget being cut paddyann?
I thought the budget was being increased by £20 billion a year or was I hearing things?

MaizieD Sun 07-Oct-18 23:54:22

No, Jalima, it's £20 billion over 5 years. And it's barely enough to keep the NHS standing still.

Analysis published by the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) last month said that total health care spending in England (not just on the NHS) would need to increase by around 3.3% a year over the next 15 years in order for the NHS to keep functioning at its current level. For services to be “improved” it said that the spending increase would need to be at least 4% a year.

paddyann Mon 08-Oct-18 00:57:38

I didn't say it WAS being cut I said that decisions about it affected NHS Scotland and NI so we should all sign ...for example if budgets are cut it means ours will be too.

Day6 Mon 08-Oct-18 01:35:58

The NHS is not a political football. Labour is using it for its own ends once again.

The Prime Minister and the Conservative party are accountable and schemes to sell it off do not exist except in the minds of those who want to overthrow the government. That there are private investors waiting to take over is an oft-used cry from the desperate far left who can fool and scare some of the people. If Labour say it often enough it doesn't make it true.

Labour will scare the vulnerable and those not likely to challenge their assertions - nice tactics from a 'caring' party - to get people o n side.

I refer you to the PM's conference speech which I am sure many Tory-bashers deride but sounded to the many that the NHS is a precious British institution, is being funded to the tune of four hundred million per WEEK, being improved and expanded with specialist fast track cancer clinics and will continue to serve the sick for free, as it always has. The PM uses and defends the NHS.

Scare mongering based on suspicion and political hatred says so much about present day Labour.

Grandad1943 Mon 08-Oct-18 07:21:58

Which Prime Minister's speech are you referring to Day6, Boris Johnson or Theresa May. grin

All those two faced delegates at the Tory Conference applauded both speeches to the rafters. However in regard to policy, it was as the old adage states "never the twain shall meet"

What a disaster of a conference.
