Looks like T May will be safe enough this evening if PMQ’s are anything to go by.
All that fool Corbyn could produce was an angry rant.
Access Denied to Gransnet Crosswords?
So now Mrs May is going to face a vote of no confidence! I find it difficult to believe that a political party would take this action at this time! She’s done well with this poisoned chalice and who could do better than she has?
Parliament has reached an impasse and is split just like the country.
This to my mind is a national emergency and maybe it’s time for a wartime style cabinet so that some consensus could be reached about the way forward.
What a mess!
Looks like T May will be safe enough this evening if PMQ’s are anything to go by.
All that fool Corbyn could produce was an angry rant.
"Secondly, everyone seems to agree that leaving the EU will make us poorer as a nation "
No they don't!
That is part of Project Fear MkII
!
Even the Bank of England have got all it's predictions wrong!
Only Remainers are spouting such rubbish!
(Along with - oh food banks, end of the NHS and the homeless...it's all so awful..) This is left wing spin - as if all of us are living in a third world country.
Yes, some, a minority - have it very hard, but poverty has ALWAYS existed. It will exist/remain when Corbyn has the keys to number ten soon.
Do not be misled by spurious Remainer/and/or hard left ideology which will have us all jumping off the nearest cliff because life is sooooooo bleak.
We sympathise for those struggling but not one sociaalist government or Federal body for European states has banished it or relieved it.
Look at the beggars and poor in any European capital city. I can see being managed by Brussels has eradicated poverty and hardship - NOT!
Ask Italians why they are defying the EU budget ruling so their politicians can relieve social hardship.
Do not believe Remainer lies. More project Fear.
The EU NEEDS us and our BILLIONS> Billions which could be better spent in the UK.
As unpopular a it seems, I believe NOT A SECOND REFERENDUM BUT a PEOPLE'S VOTE should be the way forward. NO ONE knew because the government didn't know either, no plan, no thought that the vote would not go the way Cameron wanted ....how ridiculous to base such an important decision on LEAVE or REMAIN and promises on the side of a BUS ......peeerrrrleeees !! the UK government took everyone for fools ...and sadly no one seemed to actually ask before casting their vote, what it would really MEAN in the long term (and short for that matter !) I have friends in the UK who run a business employing around 20 people full time and a few part timers. A lot of the materials and machine parts needed to run this business come from countries in the EU......my friend is dreading that he is going to have to close the business and put those people out of a job if the cost of importing from the EU goes up so fast the he would have to pass the higher costs in part on to the customers...and obviously those customers would then look elsewhere to buy ........sadly a lot of his employees (I spoke to some of them when I went back to the UK for a few weeks earlier this year) had no idea what BREXIT really meant .....well, they may sadly soon find out ....and this in only a very small business ..........I also have friends living on the south coast, retired professionals, who voted LEAVE simply because of immigration .......no thought for their own grandchildren's future .......now they tell me they had not realised what it meant ....well, sadly neither did anyone, least of all the government. PEOPLE's VOTE .....
Well said Day6??????
If I was Mrs May I would just throw all the papers in the air and say 'That's it - see if you can do better, I'm done'
Violette a “people’s vote” is a referendum, dressing it up with a fancy name doesn’t change that fact.
If remain had won, I expect they would not be calling for a second vote.
Project fear is having the opposite effect as so many of the doom and gloom predictions have turned out to be lies.
As someone who voted leave, I am completely fed up of the inferences that anyone who voted leave was - ignorant, racist, self-centred little Englander, agreed to the privatisation of the NHS and had no empathy for the poor of the UK, what utter drivel.
As for JC and Labour saving the day, that is hilarious and somewhat scary to think some people actually believe it to be true.
Those of you who want to leave please tell me what is your problem about people having a vote on the actual deal rather than what we were told would happen? Don't you trust people to vote the same way again if they still believe it is the right thing to do?
Well said GrannyGravy
I suspect many are now fully aware of just how intractable the EU is. To keep paying billions every year to an organisation that doesn't want us to leave and will not renegotiate the terms under any circumstances would be madness.
We are not the only member states who is questioning the power of the Brussels. The only countries who won't protest, are the smaller nations who receive more from EU funds than they contribute. We cannot close our eyes to the dire straits of the economies of many of our European neighbours.
We will be obliged to bail out the Euro for a number of years if we accept this deal.
Remainers are scare-mongering and trying to terrify the gullible into believing the UK cannot survive without Brussels interference and trade deals with Europe. That is patent rubbish.
If I was Mrs May I would just throw all the papers in the air and say 'That's it - see if you can do better, I'm done'
Yes!
Who could blame her?
Her successor will face the same people, the same quarreling, the same back-stabbing.
Mrs May can at least stick up to fingers to her traitorous colleagues and those disgraceful self-serving MPs who seek to cause divides and settle back and enjoy Christmas well away from that rabble. I imagine she will be phoning hubby and telling him to be ready to pour her a very large gin for when she gets home.
I don't like the deal she brokered but I cannot fault her performance, stamina and integrity in any other sphere. Her whole Premiership has been about Brexit. Let's not forget she was spot on in her dealings with the Russian poisoners, Syria and Putin - all major incidents involving UK strength and intervention.
She was handed a poisoned chalice which was topped up with cyanide by our own MPs. She could never win.
I don’t know why it is assumed that if you are against this Brexit delusional fantasy you must therefore approve of Jeremy Corbyn, I don’t know why people link the two, since he is in favour of lexit.
We just go round in circles, don't we. Why should the EU put the interests of Britain before those of it's member states? How arrogant of this country to feel it should be treated in a 'special' way.
rather than what we were told would happen What were you TOLD would happen?
Didn't you credit any of us with the ability to read around the whole vast matter with conflicting reports form both sides and end up totally befuddled by it all?
Do not tell me Remainers had different information from the rest of us which gave them definitive answers regarding the FUTURE.
Would happen.....???
Did anyone, even Theresa May know what would happen ?
No.
Remainers still cling to their crystal balls, predicting the end of the world if we tell Brussels where to shove their deal.
No one is falling for your gloom and doom.
Still hoping to wake up and discover the last two years were just a bad dream. I hope TM wins the vote and then tells the ERG mob she is going to put a vote to Parliament to rescind Article 50.
Why should the EU put the interests of Britain before those of it's member states?
No one is asking them to do that.
Isn't our position one of wanting to continue to trade with Europe, which is IN THEIR INTERESTS too?
They can lose us all together if they want.
But they do not want that because billions of pounds of hard cash is involved before any trading deal is done. Hence the deal which gives them considerable control still.
The EU has to play hard ball. No surprises there really.
Heaven forbid other disgruntled member states would get ideas and have the temerity to try to LEAVE.
I emailed my MP asking him to support Mrs. May but he sent a long reply saying that he could not vote for this deal with a clear conscience, 'and will not jeopardise the Brexit process by settling for such a flimsy deal.'
I have no idea where there is another deal he can vote for. He goes on to say that he has 'joined the 'Stand up for Brexit' campaign, and will vote against the current deal when it is brought to the House.'
Poor Mrs. May.
Leavers seem to have a monopoly of crystal balls as they “know” the EU is about to collapse, they know that the U.K. will stay united, they know everything will be marvellous when we “take back control “ and there will be fewer foreigners in the country etc, not everyone is falling for your delusional fantasies that we can turn our backs on our closest neighbours and strike marvellous trade deals all over the world.
I know not every voter of any description read around vast tracts of information before voting - some of them voted leave because - “ I don’t like Muslims”, “I don’t like the new lightbulbs”, “there aren’t any jobs here”, “ there will be more money for the NHS”( all of these genuine) , one friend asked her son’s girlfriend how she was voting in the EU election, only to be answered with “ what’s the EU?” So this idea that everyone was voting for the same idea and had the same depth of knowledge is simply wrong. No one knew all this sh*tshow would develop, the leavers blame the EU, the remainers blame the ineptitude of our own dear politicians, that’s not going to change anytime soon.
We don't appear to have any political parties that truly believe in Britain or the British public . They are all self serving. It's a very depressing and sad situation and I can't see any way forward.
We are a divided UK at the moment - that is the only thing people can agree on. Very saddened by this.
My Lib Dem MP didn't reply to my email re the proposed 'deal'. That's her lost a vote next time.
Please, please stop saying things like "I will never use my vote again" women fought long and hard, and some died for our right to vote. Rather than not use it, now is the time to use it but never, ever stop exercising the right. Don't use it, lose it.
It reminds me of those historical dramas detailing the skull duggery and plotting at the Tudor Court, all those people lurking in corridors and eavesdropping behind tapestries.....as for Gove, what a bloody creep he is, all insincere support for TM. If I was TM I would cancel the whole bloody thing on the basis that I am never going to please everyone so might as well please the bulk of economists, business leaders, etc i.e the ones who have to live with the consequences that stupid, ill informed politicians have brought upon us all. A curse on all of them!
lemon if you really believe in British democracy you should be supporting what Corbyn actually said in PMQs. That the HP had 5 days timetabled to debate the deal which was supposed to be the only deal. He asked if Mrs M had come back with any new proposals-she didn't answer. He asked if she would guarantee that there would be a debate before the HP adjourned for Christmas-she didn't answer. He spoke up for the process which for centuries has been the basis of our democracy and time after time she failed to answer.
If a government can't manage to pass a major piece of legislation through the commons it has traditionally collapsed. This government has been defeated 18 times on other matters but still the Tories cling to power
I think Mrs May has had a really hard time. Why does nobody blame David Cameron for throwing his toys out of the pram? I also feel that the EU needs us more than we need them - why else would they make it so hard for us to leave?
TM is ( from what I can see) the only one with balls in the Tory Party. Hence her strength and they dump her at their peril.
Day6

So you are not 'scare-mongering'? I think so. How is the above different to what Leavers call 'project fear'?
