I read many sources of news, opinion and information, as you may have noticed from my previous posts.

I would certainly not rely on The Sun for political guidance as it is a Brexit-supporting down market tabloid owned by a foreign billionaire.

However, I am told that quite a lot of Sun readers like to place bets and so I think the reported betting odds are probably correct, as of today. At least some Sun readers might complain if they were not.

As I'm sure you all know the 'people' didn't vote to leave the EU, only some of them. 52% of the registered voters voted to leave and 48% voted to remain. In 2016 there were 46.5 million people registered to vote out of a total population of 65.5 million. This means that the majority was 2.73% of the electorate, or 1.93% of the population. In other words, 1,269,501 people could be considered to be responsble for whatever happens after Brexit.
The government has changed its mind several times over the course of action to be taken. Mrs May is about to return to parliament for the 3rd time to try to get her deal voted through. This is considered to be democratic. In which case, why shouldn't there be a second referendum? It may be that the result would be similar, in which case we Remainers would have to accept it. But we should be given the chance to try to convince the country that remaining in the EU would be preferable.

As I understand it, 52% of the people who voted in the referendum backed leave. I think this was about 37% of those registered to vote.

If I am right this would strengthen your case.

Personally (and I'm not sure I'm joking) I wonder if Savid Jarvid shouldn't be considering revoking David Cameron's British citizenship. With his careless and casual framing of the referendum he has probably adversely affected the lives of millions of people; far more than any single, "ISIS Bride", could do.

I don’t normally post on political threads, but I live in a small coastal town in the NE which was built on fishing. Sadly, our fishermen are again, literally, being sold down the river. Our coastal towns up and down the country, for a brief, sunlit moment had hope and optimism for a brighter future, now cruelly snatched away. Our fishing industry is being used as a bargaining chip. You don’t hear about their heartbreaking plight on msm. Fishermen have very little leverage as most of them are self-employed. But, as someone on one of these threads posted, (no idea who, can’t remember), “who cares about a few fish?”.

Well I care SophieSox which is why I voted as I did. Michael Gove seemed to be your champion at the time of the referendum. I do sincerely hope our fishing communities get the support they deserve.

Time will tell. No wonder you feel let down at the moment. But negotiations haven’t started yet so anything can happen - it’s all to play for.

I'll you who doesn't care about a few fish - Nigel Farage who was the UK representative on the EU Fishing Committee, only attended one meeting out of 42.

Thank you, Urmstongran. I know, we mustn’t give up hope. Michael Gove has behaved disgracefully ever since the referendum. I take your point Varian, our fishermen and Nigel Farage are very strange bedfellows! But, when you’re desperate..... it at least guaranteed them some coverage on MSM!

Oh I think they’re (fishing communities) definitely blaming successive UK governments, starting with the one headed by ‘Sailor Ted Heath’! Like I said, they’ve got no leverage.

I really wish there was a degree of professionalism- its WTO terms or The Withdrawal Agreement.
Such expressions as cliff edge and no deal, particularly in HoC business shows plainly the bias.

Andycameron69s utopia does not exist. If the UK were to end up with “no deal” it certainly would not be WTO rules across the board.
Every product in every industry would need to be negotiated, just look at the proposed rules for agriculture published last week and that’s just for the backstop deal. There will be winners of course financial futures traders for one.

They’d play by the rules if cricket was involved ?
I bought grapes from South Africa, blueberries from Chile, mandarins from Morocco.. they would presumably be cheaper on WTO as no tariffs?
We’re doing our own family boycott of several EU countries- the ones that said we’re irrelevant or owe them Gibraltar..

As many have said- we can see how divided Leave voters are- andy wants No Deal, come what may (pun not intended)- whatever the consequences and cost. And most others want Mrs May's Deal asap - with the same proviso.

Glad that we remainers are 100% together - apart from Trisher's recent comment (probably in frustration and tongue and cheek) that she wants to be ruled by Europe.

nanalex you might have to reconsider your purchases and check on which countries we import food from which have a trade deal with the EU. We won’t get any cheaper than 0% tariff we get via our deals with 40 other countries through the EU.
