Urmstongran’s version of good news has lurched from May’s deal to compromise to backing the elite extremists. Almost as many u turns as our esteemed government. Political crisis might be good news for those who favour anarchy and extremism. Self appointed issuer of recommends is not a good look either.

Good News about Brexit! ✅
(826 Posts)Hi everyone -
If you are at all politically minded and would like to share any GOOD NEWS about Brexit, or would just like to post some optimistic thoughts - this is the thread to love.
❤️
Most of us are weary of the gloom and doom on GN! Let’s share positive news and views. Its time to look for compromise, be kind and inclusive with one another if we can. Life’s too short to be scared or miserable!
Stop peeping. C’mon in! We’d love to hear from you.

I was always for WTO. Hate the Remainers ‘crashing out without a deal’. However, my compromise was TM’s deal. I didn’t like it but thought ‘okay, it seems fair enough’ 60% Leave and 40% Remain. A good indicator of a compromise is that both sides of an argument are not altogether happy!
But once again it looks like a dead duck. So I’m back to my preferred option of WTO. I have remained consistent in my views. Perfectly reasonable in my opinion!
?
Changing ones views is fine, but doesn’t equate with “ consistency “.
‘The uncertainty over the future of the UK’s relationship with the EU has generated an unexpected no-deal bonanza with holiday companies slashing prices to Europe in April.
It could be that last holiday they take for a long time so they'd better make the most of it.
Incredible that this indication that holiday firms are struggling, with all the implications of that for lost jobs within the industry and lost revenue in the UK economy, is seen as 'good news'.
If I were to post what I think of this my post would, rightly, be deleted by Gnet
Spot on with your above post MaizieD. It is disgusting that someone should post that an entire industry is in trouble with all the possible loss of employment etc, as good news.
Beggars belief.
Me me me , its all about me.
I have just been looking at the breakdown of the parties’ votes on the indicative proposals. Huge raft of blue in the against votes. What do they want? I don’t think they all want no deal because there are some soft brexiteers amongst Conservative MPs. Perhaps I am cynical but is this just party politics? They want rid of May. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-47783127
There is nothing good about Brexit. To get over the impasse we need a peoples vote. If those MPs who do not trust the public then expect the public to trust them, I expect they are in for a shock, for if they do not trust us, how can they expect us to trust them at the next General Election? If my MP does not support the people she will not get our family vote (5).
No, it was good news because the rest of the article then went on to illustrate how bookings (not EasyJet) are up and looking good.
I’m not so crass as to post what could appear good news at the expense of other people’s jobs!!
I can’t find the article right now because, believe it or not, I’m waiting on a taxi to take us to the airport!
Ps. Just illustrates what I was saying earlier this morning Grandad about getting shot down by snipers on this thread every time I try to post GOOD NEWS.
Urmstongran Quote [ That said, here is some GOOD NEWS for U.K. holidaymakers!
Today, in the Graun:
‘The uncertainty over the future of the UK’s relationship with the EU has generated an unexpected no-deal bonanza with holiday companies slashing prices to Europe in April.
The price drop has come in response to the public’s nervousness about passports, car insurance, health insurance and the value of the pound in the event of no deal.
In an analysis of more than 100,000 holidays across more than 25 providers, Travelsupermarket found significant discounts when it compared the coming Easter break with last year’s.’] End Quote
Urmstongran, above is a complete copy of your post @ 09:10am today (02/04/19). In that, you make no reference to bookings being up on any airline or Travel organisation, but only on the " nervousness of prospective holidaymakers in making bookings due to Brexit.
you claimed in your post @ 12:29pm that it stated bookings were up across many companies which they are not, hence the discounts.
Therfore, I will state again; you seem to be making "good news" out of severe problems in the travel industry and all the possible repercussions for peoples jobs in that industry
Have a lovely break away in the sun Urmston ?
The doom mongering will no doubt continue until the end of time, but at least you will have a break from it.
The headless chickens in Parliament will no doubt still be running around squawking NO! As well.
If it's true that holiday companies are in the doldrums, why has Ryanair opened up 50 new flights a week from my local airport, Southend.
Enjoy your break Urmstongran
No doubt nothing will have progressed by the time you come back
If Brexit is delayed beyond next Friday the EU has said that the UK would have to take part in the elections.
The government has approved preparations for European elections in May as a “contingency” measure.
David Lidington, the cabinet office minister and de facto deputy prime minister, said that the government would reimburse returning officers for “reasonable” expenses incurred preparing for a vote on May 23.
Mr Lidington said that “it remains the intention for the UK to leave the EU with a deal and not take part in the European parliamentary elections”, but in a letter to the Electoral Commission, he added: “I am able to confirm that the cabinet office will reimburse reasonable spending by returning officers on contingency preparations for European Elections."

Unlike the many who complain that the EU is undemocratic, I have always voted in the EU elections, and very much hope to be voting in the next one.
Are they all full, petra?
Please do explain why companies offer massive discounts on their products and what that tells you about the company's 'health'.
Of course, if we crash out without a deal the pound is going to go through the floor so people won't be able to afford to go abroad. Companies are trying to entice them with cheap holidays now because they can't do it for ever. The companies would fold if they did.
I don't see anything in the Guardian article about this:
No, it was good news because the rest of the article then went on to illustrate how bookings (not EasyJet) are up and looking good.
Was it the Guardian from the parallel universe that you Leavers live in? Because I've read it twice and I can't find that particular bit of good news. The only thing that I could find that was 'up' was prices of flights to Amsterdam, Paris and Rome.
This is the one I read:
www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/mar/28/brexit-no-deal-easter-holiday-bonanza-europe-cut-price
How can some of you be so unbearably smug? Its beyond me.
And please don't trot out the " virtue signaling" thing because I'm not.
I voted remain but accepted the majority for Brexit and awaited events. Oh dear. I wanted to just get on with it. Accept the hard won deal and then sort out the various problems as they arose. However, parliament had other ideas. Their ridiculous infighting and vacillation has led to the UK economy losing £600 million a week due to the ongoing uncertainty. What is wrong with MPs?!! Am hopping mad.
Good question petra
Especially since O'Leary said that there would be no flights between the UK and Europe post-Brexit.
It is a very valid question and very puzzling.
The plans that Petra referred to in that RyanAir would be using Southend Airport to expand its fleet and services were published in June of 2018 when many still felt that the Brexit negotiations would conclude reasonably.
However, the Brexit situation has deteriorated considerably since the above time, and there is a reluctance among many to book European holidays until that situation becomes more clear.
How that will affect Ryanair's new operations from Southend, we undoubtedly not fully know until the end of this financial year, which is April 2020.
However, if trading is "not as expected" then the carrier could curtail those services at any time.
Link to Ryanairs June 2018 Southend plans can be seen by following this link:-

According to friends who work at the airport these 'plans' started after the referendum result.
All I know is that I'm doing my best for 'Michael' but booking fights to Corfu and Milan.
But the icing on the cake is: we have American friends visiting Ireland this summer and there are 2 flights a day to Dublin from Southend.
The OP asked for good news about brexit but so far there has been none. The best the quitters have ever come up with is things are not as bad as they might have been, damage limitation. No good news at all.
Hi Urmstongran, I suppose I should Claim same title having been born in Urmston, well actually Davyhulme hospital.
Sorry I cannot agree with your tourism analysis. The main reason for good offers at this time of the year is that thanks to EU employment laws many Tourist jobs have to have fixed periods contracts and insurance. Which results in companies, hotels etc needing to cover employment and overhead costs through out the year. They make their profits in the high season and meet slow periods on costs through special marketing deals and bar sales. In earlier years majority closed down for three months.
Just a bit on what trade under WTO rules will mean, for those who think this is a good idea:
ukandeu.ac.uk/new-report-explains-what-trading-on-wto-terms-would-mean/
The headline: Professor Anand Menon, director of The UK in a Changing Europe, said: “Parliament has begun perhaps its most important peace-time deliberation. A lot of MPs are claiming that trading with the EU on WTO terms would be an acceptable outcome. The report investigates this claim and underlines that trading on WTO terms would be highly damaging to UK trade with the EU and other countries.”
Interesting - unless of course you think that we've had enough of experts, aka people who know what they're talking about.
