Who decides which experts are better and more believable than others?

Just by the way of an example, only one country in the world trades solely under WTO, and that's Mauritania. Australia, America and Canada (often used as examples) all have free trade agreements with other nations - i.e., they don't just trade under WTO rules. If WTO rules were so great, these countries wouldn't bother with trade agreements which are complex and time-consuming to negotiate.

WTO rules would not be the definitive trading position. It would be the starting position. Trade deals are already being negotiated, however these cannot be formalised until we are out of EU.

Always good to start from the bottom. And we'd need to negotiate a trade deal with the EU....We're good at doing that. Every country in the world is in some sort of trading bloc...must be a good idea then. We could start our own - the Free UK Conservative European Deal or FUKCED for short. Will only take 50 years to sort out.

U workers will have their qualifications and registrations recognised whether the UK leaves the EU with or without a deal, the health and social care secretary has announced.

The government has introduced legislation that means health and social care workers with professional qualifications from EU institutions can continue to practise in the UK after the country leaves the European Union.

The DHSC said this legislation means up to 63,000 NHS staff and 104,000 social care workers who qualified in the EU will continue to have their training accepted by all regulatory bodies, including the General Medical Council, the Nursing and Midwifery Council and the General Pharmaceutical Council.

Employment contracts will not need to be changed if the UK leaves without a deal and staff will not have to reapply for their current positions after exit day, the government confirmed. "

So that stays the same then. Only because our dear government hasn’t planned any alternative. That won’t be good news for the type who beat up people for speaking Spanish on the bus.

That legislation covers NHS staff and social workers then. Could that have anything to do with the fact that we actually need those EU workers? So they are not queue jumpers any more. What we don't know is how many will still want to come in the future and work in a hostile environment. That remains to be seen.

What makes you think that Britain is "hostile"? The people you are talking about have been told they are welcome to work and stay here. Britain is not hostile to anybody that is prepared to live among us and be part of our society. You have been brainwashed into believing the Remainers litany of "isolationist" Britain. It is just not true. Do you ever visit America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and a host of other sovereign nations? You are welcome to visit those places ...but are NOT welcome to simply arrive and demand that you be supported by the locals. You enter for a period to visit, you may not work unless you apply for that status. Britain is no different to them....welcoming and tolerant. It is time that people here regained a measure of pride in their country. People that have pride in what they have always earn the respct of outsiders. Without pride you get no respect and are taken advantage of. So, Britain, please get a backbone and stop wqhining!

Nothing wrong with being proud of your country but if you are a native Brit, and have always lived in this country, it's likely that it's difficult to understand what the situation is for immigrants. This is from the Guardian:

Since the referendum I have myself experienced comments like "time for you to go home now" . They are not said in a nasty way and I don't take them seriously but the mood in the country has changed and that saddens me.

Many are proud of our country being an important influential member of the European Union, the biggest and most successful trading bloc in the world. We 28 EU nations work together for the good of all- something British people should be proud of.

My patriotic feeling is the dear old country is influencing policy within the greatest trading bloc in the world.

maxdecat I think you fail to understand the immigrant situation in the countries you mention, particularly the USA. A huge number of people employed there are illegals who supply low paid labour. Is this the future you envisage for us?
Personally I'd rather have properly paid people working here and paying taxes.

What if you are from another country and you can't work?

Don't come here if you:
1) Can't work
2) Are not prepared to work (after the necessary checks)
3) Aren't prepared to integrate fully including learning passable English language
4) Have a criminal history
5) Haven't enough money to live on until you get work.
6) Have no full time verifiable job to go to.

Gabriella, Your suggestion is reasonable on the surface , but I fear it hides a more intolarant stance.
Do not forget this Country’s History , we have much to be ashamed of, we owe a debt of gratitude to those who in the not so distant past made their homes here & are an invaluable part of our communities & workforce.
What a sad reflection on us all it would be if we take a backwards step & become a small minded inwards looking isolated Island of Little Englanders.

Gabriella G54 if those rules were applied to the British retirees in Spain most of them would have to come back.

Refugees and asylum seekers are forbidden to work. So number 1 and 2 don't apply.
Number 3 is tricky because ESOL has been cut to the bone.
Number 5 is impossible if you are running for your life.
Number 6 is impossible because you are not allowed to work.

Thing is, the vast majority of EU workers living here do work and pay taxes, yet many of them now do feel unwelcome, their status has been uncertain, and at the extreme some have been subject to abuse and assault. To pretend otherwise is really head in the clouds stuff.
