Hi everyone -

If you are at all politically minded and would like to share any GOOD NEWS about Brexit, or would just like to post some optimistic thoughts - this is the thread to love.
❤️

Most of us are weary of the gloom and doom on GN! Let’s share positive news and views. Its time to look for compromise, be kind and inclusive with one another if we can. Life’s too short to be scared or miserable!

Stop peeping. C’mon in! We’d love to hear from you.

There’s positivity and then there’s delusion

^Bit like those celebrities who said they’d leave the U.K. if we voted to Leave. - yes you Lily Allen and Bob Geldof amongst others.

Gosh, if only Lily Allen would keep her word!!

maryeliza54 Wed 20-Mar-19 08:23:17

As if any grown up cares a flying fig about what any celebrity thinks about anything or about where they live. All I care about is the bottom line that they should pay their taxes.

Andrea Leadsum, Chris Grayling and Liam Fox have threatened to resign from the cabinet if a long delay to brexit becomes government policy.

Good News about brexit at long last!

Lily65 Wed 20-Mar-19 08:29:08

Bluebelle, following on from your comment, I am not battling for anything on the political spectrum at the moment ( except trying to hang on to some greenbelt), I am however battling my own MH issues.

The whole Brexit thing is desperately sad , frightening and divisive.

Time to get real I'm afraid. Realists are not sitting every day, head in hands, bemoaning what's going on in Parliament. We are getting on with our lives , doing whatever it is we normally do, go to work, care for GCs, go to painting class, clean the gutters, whatever- but we are acutely aware that this Government is in total disarray over the biggest decision to affect our country in my/our lifetime.

To think anything else is to be in denial, whilst the Opposition are tinkering around the edges. What are they doing? Anyone?

We, the people, are going to feel the full effect of their ineptitude very soon, so don't be 'excited' about a date on next week's calendar.

Why sit and wait for the tsunami to hit us when we could get out of the way.

Mrs. May will cravenly bet the E.U. for an extension to A50. They will pretend not to be happy about it but will grant one.

We haven't had Brexit yet, just the mewling remainers in parliament arguing over how to not Brexit.

lemongrove Wed 20-Mar-19 08:39:53

Morning Urmston ?
It was to be expected that doomsayers ( woe, woe and thrice woe!) would hurry over to this thread ......they can’t resist it.

Bercow has unwittingly moved things on apace by his daft
Decision, so things may move fast now, one way or t’other.

BlueBelle Wed 20-Mar-19 08:43:48

I m not sure which comment you re referring to Lily I totally understand how this will be harming many peoples mental health I hope you can feel better soon

I usually keep away from political threads but I can’t believe what I m seeing on this one How can we be dancing through the poppyfields when the very best we can expect is a ruined country divided to the point of civil unrest, civil wars have started on less. Handmade enemies in most of Europe, no blooming winners and for a dreadful dreadful whim of stupid Cameron and the destructive media, politians lying through their back teeth and a bungling inept government with a bungling inept opposition

Urm youre ‘excited’ for next week, you re living in another world it’s just unbelievable keep taking the tablets

Lily65 Wed 20-Mar-19 08:50:43

which ever side they are batting for

Here is your comment BB.

BlueBelle Wed 20-Mar-19 13:16:31

It’s batting not battling Lily meaning we re all doomed which ever side you are supporting ( or batting for)
In your answer comment further up you use the word battling and you are talking about ‘battling’ mental illness
I wasn’t sure where that came from
Anyway I hope you feel better soon

Lily65 Wed 20-Mar-19 14:02:42

I confused batting and battling and I apologise for that mistake.

I don't feel great and I feel utter despair at the political situation. I have just been talking to an individual with genuine links to somebody who was in government. She said that no matter what their differences opposing sides could admire intellect and integrity . All that has gone.

I think this is behind the HSJ paywall, so cut and pasted:

Out of 72 trusts which responded with information from their self-assessments, 49 trusts said there had been no evidence of EU staff leaving because of Brexit, and that there was little or no risk of services being impacted by a potential shortfall of EU staff.

Several of the 49 trusts reported an increase in the number of EU employees since 2016.

These included:

Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation Trust, which employed 2,068 staff in January 2019 compared to 1,615 in June 2016 (an increase of 28 per cent);

University Hospitals Birmingham FT, which reported a rise in EU nationals working at the trust from 829 (January 2016) to 1,056 (February 2019);

Oxford University Hospitals FT, which reported an 8.8 per cent increase in EU nationals employed at the trust from 1,431 in March 2016 to 1,557 in January 2019; and

Western Sussex Hospitals and Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals trusts, both of which said its number of consultants, ancillary staff, and “qualified middle tier staff such as band 5 nurses” had improved since 2016.

A number of trusts also said they employed so few EU nationals that there was no risk of services being impacted by a potential shortfall of EU staff.

I have been working here in the office all day, but someone has just come in who had watched PMQs at lunchtime and is saying that Theresa May looked and sounded like she was on the verge of resigning.

Would anyone on GN who watched PMQs agree with what has been said, as many of us are intrigued and somewhat concerned here.

Jane10 Wed 20-Mar-19 17:24:03

I certainly couldn't blame her for telling all sides to get stuffed and just walking away. She's welcome round at mine for a soothing cup of tea and lots of (diabetic) cake.

Nicenanny3 Wed 20-Mar-19 17:25:59

I'd like to tell Theresa May to get stuffed she's a disgrace.

Greta Wed 20-Mar-19 18:57:55

crystaltipps. Letter made me smile.

Here is the reply:

Chère Theresa,
Zut alors! Pas de plan après presque 3 ans! Et maintenant que vas-tu faire de tout ce temps
que sera ta vie? Moi, je ne regrette rien. J'ai un plan: ne nous quitte pas, ne nous quitte pas!

I've always loved the chansons.

Cherrytree59 Wed 20-Mar-19 19:33:20

May addressing the Nation. 8.15pm this evening.

varian Wed 20-Mar-19 19:36:51

Which channel Cherry?

varian Wed 20-Mar-19 19:48:28

It looks like she's about to resign. I may be wrong but that's what it looks like.

Jalima1108 Wed 20-Mar-19 19:50:24

She is going to tell us that she's sick of the lot of us, she wanted to remain and she's off to her home in Italy/France/Croatia or wherever, and she's turned off her phone.

And who can blame her.

Cherrytree59 Wed 20-Mar-19 20:03:04

Not sure Varian but would expect to be on BBC 1.

Its on BBC and Sky news channel.

Lily65 Wed 20-Mar-19 20:06:04

OMG this is madness

Urmstongran Wed 20-Mar-19 20:12:17

She’s a Type I diabetic. She’s super tired and fed up of the lot of us. She’s about to speak in 10 minutes. Who knows what she will say?

Oh lily65 what can we say? All this is horrid. We are going through the eye of the storm and it’s not nice.

Please accept these ?
From all those of us on here. It’s not good right now as many people must be upset and anxious. I do recognise that.

We may not have the answer. But please take heart.

petra Wed 20-Mar-19 20:20:22

B9exchange
I'm a bit confused now ?‍♀️ as soooo many posters on the Brexit threads have stated categorically that eu nationals are leaving the uk health service in their thousands and yet here we have the truth from the horses mouth which proves
those statements were all a load of cods wallop ( polite way of describing the info)
