Altering Bob Dylan’s words slightly
For the times they are , and, ‘ should ‘ be a’changing’

Does anyone still seriously believe that Russia is at some point going to attack us. Do they not realise that today's wars are run in countries where the people are too poor or too disorganised to protest and the only purpose of our massive arms industry is to supply the aggressors.
Amongs the diatribes about Corbyn on this thread are one or two criticisms of policies which reveal how little some know about things.
Let's begin with student debt. Firstly very soon huge amounts will be written off as individual debts mature without being cleared. Secondly the admin costs for collecting the little that is collected are huge. So writing off the debt would probably save money in the long run.
On to schools I would imagine making any forecast about schools today would be incredibly difficult. This Tory government has cut education spending to the core and in doing so have created a massive crisis. In the process they have lied and given out false information about their spending. No one can forecast exactly what will be needed until the true facts are known.
To those complaining about the amount of council tax they are charged. This is the direct result of cuts to government funding to councils.

gillybob The Financial crash was bloody grim, there by they grace of god!!!!

gillybob Fri 03-May-19 15:35:32

I’m afraid I disagree trisher our council has already cut services to the bone . Closed every community centre . Wasting money on vanity road programs, traffic lights and bus lanes . Over a £million spent on our town hall, free Pilates and Yoga sessions for their employees , the most expensive new furniture , fancy coffee machines etc. for which money was no object, 12 of the highest paid LA executives in the country and they have the bloody cheek to raise council tax by 5.9% !

gillybob Fri 03-May-19 15:36:17

We shouldn’t gone bust like plenty others did GG but we struggled on . Idiots that we are !

GrannyGravy13 Fri 03-May-19 15:49:24

gillybob you are not idiots just conscientious, we have friends who lost everything to pay off their debts due to others defaulting on them. It’s bloody heartbreaking.

Grany Fri 03-May-19 16:17:13

GrannyGravy13 Who said we would not be armed and ready Labour would take all measures necessary to protect our country and keep us safe. Also with a peacemaker there would not be unnessessary involvement in other countries as in the Iraq war.

As for having a dig at Diane Abbot seems some people think it is fair game she has had more abuse thrown at her than any other politition still carrys on working hard for her constituents This unfair she is intelligent she went to grammar school Cambridge and then fast tracked to top job in civil service before becoming the first black woman to become an MP

Anniebach Fri 03-May-19 16:21:11

Let’s hope the peacemaker isn’t Corbyn, he only speaks to one side

Grany Fri 03-May-19 16:36:03

Anniebach Yes that how he secured the peace process in NIreland by talking.

Mycatisahacker Fri 03-May-19 16:37:11

Exactly Bridgit and GG

They are both utterly useless.,

Did someone actually say Abbott was an intellectual grin please tell my that’s a joke. The woman lacks basic year 5 maths skills and is a racist

Mycatisahacker Fri 03-May-19 16:39:45

Grany

A safe constituency and a diligent MP does not a Home Secretary make. Clearly she’s not up to the front bench.

Grany Fri 03-May-19 16:52:34

Mycatisahacker Hi we are clearly not going to agree so let's agree to disagree ok

Mycatisahacker Fri 03-May-19 17:00:29

Grany of course if we all agreed it would be a Boring thread grin

Mycatisahacker Fri 03-May-19 17:03:15

tricher

What part of an unprovoked chemical weapon attack on our country killing a British citizen have you forgotten when you say does anyone seriously think Russia would attack us

They did!!! hmm

GrannyGravy13 Fri 03-May-19 17:17:57

Mycatisahacker some people have short and selective memories.

Labour under Blair took us into the Iraq war.

Mycatisahacker Fri 03-May-19 17:18:37

Yes and it was a massive mistake??? Who says it wasn’t

Anniebach Fri 03-May-19 17:20:59

Corbyn secured peace in N.I. ? Not true

GrannyGravy13 Fri 03-May-19 17:22:06

I totally agree it was a massive mistake.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 03-May-19 17:23:40

I was agreeing with you Mycatisahacker, and referring to Granys post. Sorry for confusion I am "multi-tasking" and not successfully!!!

GracesGranMK3 Fri 03-May-19 17:27:43

"You clearly have never run a small business ..." Mycatisahacker (Fri 03-May-19 13:48:32)

I clearly ran a successful one. How about you?

Mycatisahacker Fri 03-May-19 17:40:14

GrannyGravy grin

I know how that feels! grin

GracesGran

Yes very successful and employing others,

despite this current chancellor and the previous one penalising hard working contractors with the IR33 nonsense that has now been legally challenged.

As I said not impressed with this Tory lot but despite that Jeremy terrifies me.,

For all his faults over Iraq Blaire understood that taxing the better off until they emigrate or simply hide their wealth is a stupid failed policy.

Mycatisahacker Fri 03-May-19 18:33:46

corbyn secured peace in NI

Seriously what planet are some on!!

Anniebach Fri 03-May-19 18:50:35

The claim that Corbyn secured peace in NI was claimed ages ago by a poster ,no longer posting. At that time I telephoned someone who was very much involved , he roared with laughter .

trisher Fri 03-May-19 19:25:15

Well obviously he was involved and he supported Mo Mowlam. Perhaps those who deny this are just afraid to acknowledge any good that Corbyn has done, they are so busy blackening his name. 2 peace prizes did not come from not being involved.
gillybob some figures on how much hs been cut

Anniebach Fri 03-May-19 19:34:38

I agree Corbyn has done good, he fought to have a IRA member imprisoned for murder be classed ‘a political prisoner ‘. He cared so much for the suffering following the Brighton bombing he invited members of the IRA to Westminster. He honoured the terrorists who murdered Israeli Olympic athletes by attending a wreath laying ceremony and offered his apologies when he was too busy to accept an invitation to visit the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Palastine.
