Just joined GN and I thought this would be the place to ask. On the news today I heard them talking about getting rid of Mrs May and getting a “proper brexiteer”.
What’s one of those?

Mollygo welcome. A "proper Brexiteer" Well you can have your choice of two, Jacob Rees Mogg or Boris Johnson? Talk about the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea!!!!

GabriellaG54 Tue 09-Apr-19 13:16:45

Someone who wants 'out', preferably with no strings attached.

Day6 Tue 09-Apr-19 13:31:30

You don't know what "most people" think varian and there you go again, insulting the intelligence of those who voted for Brexit.

And how dare you accuse me of "just lapping up the propaganda of the of the right wing tabloids". You have no idea which papers, if any, I read. Don't bother denying your slur; your post comes immediately after mine.

Thank you Smileless

I think you post for Leavers everywhere.

The only certainty about Brexit debates on GN is that varian will, in every single post demean and belittle Leave voters with her nasty assumptions.

Leavers have been shafted - the referendum result has been dismissed by our own politicians, most of whom voted for Article 50, and those politicians like Corbyn and Starmer (Labour) who said they would respect the result and the UK would leave the EU, have backtracked completely. Even May has been playing a game and her betrayal means her party is probably going right down the drain.

Leave means Remain - that is what we are getting and I admire those politicians who are prepared to stick their heads and reputations above the parapet and object to what is being dished up to the UK electorate. They are the few with integrity and I hope come the next GE that is remembered.

Nonnie Tue 09-Apr-19 13:35:31

Day6 why do you think politicians "have backtracked completely"?

trisher Tue 09-Apr-19 13:48:32

Day 6 Leavers have been shafted so true and mostly by the leaders of the movement who told lies, committed electoral fraud and have allied themselves with the likes of Tommy Robinson!

pinkquartz Tue 09-Apr-19 13:50:30

I wish we could cancel the leaving. Take time and have another referendum in a couple of years but that is not going to happen.
It is so clear that Brexit is not in safe hands just now. How can we trust this bunch in the H of C ?
If no-one voted for any main party next election then they would all lose their jobs.
If people vote for Independent Candidates then we the people just might have a better society because this lot are not thinking of the good of the country just themselves.

What about the leavers like Boris Johnson and Rees Mogg whop have voted against their own government? They've betrayed the leave voters who were promised we should be leaving with a great deal, we hold all the cards etc. Don't say we weren't promised that because we definitely were! May is to be blamed for appointing inadequates like David "thick as mince" Davis to negotiate the withdrawal, when he couldn't negotiate his way out of a paper bag and didn't bother to turn up at EU meetings with any notes, saying "its all in my head". Im sorry, you can blame remainers and the EU all you like, but the main blame for this mess must lie with this government, the conservative party and their buying off of the duplicitous DUP and promising the undeliverable.

varian Tue 09-Apr-19 14:52:54

I agree with your first sentence *pinkquartz".

You don't need to feel ashamed of voting leave. That was three years ago when none of us knew what we now know. Read the posts of these leave voters.

Peter Oborne from the Daily Mail. A Brexiter who has the massive guts to admit he was wrong- can't be easy when his livelihood comes from the DM. Take my hat off to you, PO:

for Betty above, they don't make them like that anymore.

Ah, Remainers must have remarkable foresight if they know that the people no longer support the idea of Leave!

Perhaps you can tell me who is going to win the European Cup and I can put a bet on it.

?

MaizieD Tue 09-Apr-19 18:26:00

'The people' never supported leave. Just over half of 'the people' supported leave and, however much Leavers on here might insist that they had done their research, knew exactly what they were voting for and weren't in the slightest bit influenced by the leave campaigns (which I find slightly suspect as we've had Leave mantras quoted time after time on this forum) it's been clear that a number didn't know what they voted for, or have, like Peter Oborne, realised that leaving is far more complex and damaging to the UK than they thought it would be.

Where you have a situation where for every 17 people who voted leave there are 16 who voted remain it really can't be called the will of the people in quite the same way that a, say, 70 - 30 split might have indicated.

The result was so close that it called for reflection and an attempt to find a consensus. Not for the 'will' of nearly half the voters to be ignored. Or worse, for them to be dismissed as 'citizens of nowhere' and so, by implication, worthless. A nation just cannot be treated like that.

Mark Francois' speech today was the most inflammatory ever- he is desperate to inflamme so that the EU refuses an extension and we are forced into No Deal It was despicable and shameful - reminding the French about the 'perfidious Albion' a term coined after the 100 Years war and the massacre of 1000s of French at Agincourt. What a horrible little man.

"You don't know what "most people" think varian and there you go again, insulting the intelligence of those who voted for Brexit."

Goodness me Varian how could you possibly suggest you think you know what anyone thinks re the holy Brexit. I bet Smileless (appropriate?) has already told you that you have to be of the Brexitarian religion as they are blessed with the knowledge of what more than 17 million people each meant by the word "leave" and it's strangely always what they meant. I think at least three Heil Boris (Klop) should be said in penance. grin

Listen to the words of wisdom from Marie Scott.

Sarcasm...always the default mode when intelligent reasoning fails.

varian
Where did pinkquartz say that she/he was ashamed of voting Leave? We all know that you know for a fact what all leavers are thinking but now your actually putting a name to what someone's said: an out and out lie angry

This could get exciting when Durhamjen returns.
Some 'new' members have objected to the amount of blue links. Just wait 'till the high priestess returns, there aren't enough hours in the day to read them.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 09-Apr-19 20:42:59

EU Nationals can vote in the local and of course the EU elections, so make sure you are registered.
I’ve posted a link for those of you who would like to vote

GabriellaG54 Tue 09-Apr-19 20:48:11

Only the lonely, the bored and the sad would bother with 'blue links'.

This is apparently a draft in reply to Mays letter.

Interesting no dates yet. Presumably to be discussed tomorrow

Article 39, allows for every EU citizen to stand as a candidate for election to the EU parliament in the country in which they reside,

I would hope that the young take enthusiastic part. It is their future.
