Brexit-what else?

Just joined GN and I thought this would be the place to ask. On the news today I heard them talking about getting rid of Mrs May and getting a “proper brexiteer”.
What’s one of those?

varian Tue 09-Apr-19 21:33:13

petra you should be careful not to make false accusations.. I did not say that pinkquartz* was ashamed of voting leave nor have I ever claimed to know what all leavers are thinking.

However I think many would benefit from reading some of the posts on the link I gave.

Fabian Picardo - supporting a people’s vote in the rally.

Betty Bothroyd’s speech was magnificent.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 09-Apr-19 21:48:38

Boothroyd 91 years and like Scott another 90 year old who understands the value of what we might lose.

“To the young - the future is yours and should not rest with those who are rooted in the past ........
Not in my worse nightmares did I think we would end up like this only days away from leaving with a no deal exit, with food shortages, medicine shortages ....... nobody voted for this mess.
I blame the charlatans that said this would be easy..... the falsehoods of the potential next leaders. Totally untrustworthy.
Support the young in their fight for their future

How embarrassing to have Brexiteer Mark Francois MP representing Britain! (Or England as he prefers)
His threat in a speech to the EU.
Unfortunately, he doesn’t even understand the meaning of the word “perfidious”. (Deceitful).

"If you try to hold us against our will, you will be faced with Perfidious Albion on speed".

Lily65 Tue 09-Apr-19 21:59:00

so now May is grovelling about in Europe and there is no immediate exit for the UK.

What a joke, a very bad one.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 09-Apr-19 21:59:41

Do not read this if you have a weak stomach.
If you are a UKIP supporter I trust you could not support this councillor

Oh you couldn't make it up, could you? Perfidious Albion on speed Well it sums up this Tory Government!!!

trisher Tue 09-Apr-19 22:16:40

On second thoughts, some speed might do some of them the world of good

Whitewavemark2, thank you for the blue link. Useful.

News report on Sky.
9 months to a year extension being reported. Looks as if Brexit will be kicked into the long grass. Huge implications.
EU elections - almost certain to become a remain/Brexit election
EU clearly fully in control now. Tory government has brought humiliation on the U.K.
Triggering Article 50 without a plan also meant that May immediately handed control to the EU.
Talks continuing with Labour saves Mays face in the EU talk tomorrow
The continuing civil war in the Tory party means May is now very vulnerable. It is unlikely she will survive this.
Brexit as a process is looking very shaky.

Varian
Did you or did you not say @14.52 ^ you don't need to feel ashamed of voting Leave^
You assumed, as you do on every Brexit thread what leavers are thinking.
Yet again your last sentence @21.33 is another of your sanctimonious assumptions.

varian Tue 09-Apr-19 22:58:37

Yes, I make no assumptions about any or all leave voters, even though I have heard many say they have changed their minds. Some feel ashamed that they believed the lies, but I certainly don't think leave voters need to feel ashamed. It is the Leave campaigners who lied and cheated who should be apologising to us all.

GabriellaG54 Tue 09-Apr-19 23:05:32

Yes Greta I did write that and it was not sarcasm but a statement of fact.

GabriellaG54 Tue 09-Apr-19 23:14:12

Much depends on May’s performance today in her meeting with the EU leaders.
It is a shame that so much depends on someone so poor at communicating.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 10-Apr-19 08:13:18

An article by a French publication that suggests that May had a poor understanding of the working of the EU, and the fact that she ignored advice from Sir Ivan Rogers not to invoke Article 50 until she had a clear plan ratified if possible by parliament.

Of course not only did May not understand the EU, but a Tory made a speech arguing that neither did the U.K. voter prior to the referendum.

Some of the pressures faced by the E27 in giving consideration to a long extension is to try to balance the tension between the damage a crash out would do to their businesses and voter against an extension which means the U.K. would continue as an (apparent) reluctant member and the EU being unable to give its entire focus on the years business, like electing new leaders.
At the moment a long extension looks most likely giving greater stability to all.

To day is the 21st anniversary of the GFA.

Some lessons being learned by the hard right in Europe from the U.K. and its humiliation. Marine La Penn and others of the hard right no longer talks of leaving the EU but of reform. They now understand the value of a large economic block.

I cannot believe that anyone really knew all the implications of voting to leave, no one really understands it all now, even those paid to understand. Anyone who says they did is either fooling themselves or just bluffing in order, perhaps, to justify why they voted as they did. There is nothing wrong in admitting you didn't fully understand and changing your mind or as, a result of further information, sticking to your opinion.

When people post a 'fact' without a link to back it up I distrust the 'fact'.

When I ask a question of a regular poster and they never come back on the thread, or simply don't answer the question, I distrust their opinion.

I don't feel that any of the back biting and sarcasm does credit to the posters and surely it undermines their posts.

I cannot think of a better way of healing this country than to get the best agreement the civil servants can and then put it to the country. Anything else will simply cause more unnecessary upset for everyone.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 10-Apr-19 12:00:05

nonnie that is a good argument for a confirmatory vote.
