Brexit-what else?

Just joined GN and I thought this would be the place to ask. On the news today I heard them talking about getting rid of Mrs May and getting a “proper brexiteer”.
What’s one of those?

varian Wed 10-Apr-19 12:00:07

I agree Nonnie that links are very helpful.

Sir Simon Fraser who was a senior civil servant, rising to become the head of the Diplomatic Service; and Julian Jessop, an economist who worked at the Treasury and also at the free market think tank, the Institute of Economica Affairs were interviewed on Channel 4 News.

Like Sir Ivan Rogers, former UK ambassador to the EU, Sir Simon Fraser is in no doubt that any kind of brexit would damage the UK. Julian Jessop, one of the small minority of economists to promote brexit, is a great deal less convincing in his reasoning.

I don’t understand why some posters dislike “blue links”.
Is it because it’s too much of an effort to click on the link?
Is it that they don’t want to read a relevant newspaper article?
Is it that they have already made up their mind and are unwilling to read any new evidence?
Why are they even on Gransnet if they are not open to new ideas???

Blue links are fine for some and not others. I find that there are far too many but others disagree. Both views are ok...IMO.

maryeliza54 Wed 10-Apr-19 12:40:17

mostly there were some particularly nasty, snidely and childish comments about blue links yesterday. They appear to emanate on the whole from posters on the right. You can draw your own conclusions from that, I couldn’t possibly comment.

Why not name me and be done with it? I don't mind.

GabriellaG54 Wed 10-Apr-19 12:53:38

I'm as legally allowed to post and voice my views as are you. There are all types, good, bad and everything in between in all parties and I am not a member of any of them.
I've never decried any party and I don't expect my voting choices to be the subject of derision or snide remarks either.
I will and have always distanced myself from the ugly face of certain parties, whatever colour badge they wear.

thought you were a Kipper G?

jura2 Wed 10-Apr-19 13:01:00

If you don't like 'blue links' just ignore them.

But they do give very useful information to help make informed decision, about very complex subjects, as the one in hand here.

Of course it has been a massive problem during the campaign and still now, that some people prefer not to be informed, and just shout 'project fear' - which is tragically all turning to be fact.

And we do not expect to have our comments treated with insults, either.

Wasn’t ust you GG not everything is all about you?

No, whitewave not reality beginning to dawn at all.
Just sadly us Leavers realising we are battling against the Establishment who never had any intention of letting us Leave. The HoC stuffed with Remainers. We didn’t realise it when we voted but we do now. Very sad.

mostlyharmless Wed 10-Apr-19 14:09:54

Another one bites the dust:
LBC ‘s outspoken Brexiteer Nick Ferrari.

Self-confessed 'reluctant Leaver' Nick Ferrari confessed that he has given up on Brexit, admitting that he's had "enough" and wants the country to move on and address other pressing issues.

crystaltipps Wed 10-Apr-19 14:10:51

Who are “the establishment” who won’t let you leave? Do you count old Etonians Reed Mogg and Johnson who voted against May’s WA? Can’t get more Establishment than them so don’t blame remainers for everything!

Whitewavemark2 Wed 10-Apr-19 14:20:08

mostly yes reality beginning to dawn for Ferrari

I would never presume to assume that reality is dawning for all leavers.

Brexit without a deal will trigger recession, says IMF.

The International Monetary Fund has downgraded growth for post-Brexit Britain, forecasting GDP of just 1.2 per cent this year.

The downgrade, from a forecast of 1.5 per cent in January, would make it the worst year since the recession in 2009. For 2020 growth will be 1.4 per cent, a downgrade from 1.6 per cent.

Project fear - we will get those unicorns - and with 100s of 1000s on the top Varian. Some on here know far far more than the IMF ... (not).

Nonnie Wed 10-Apr-19 17:41:41

crystal I also would like to know who they are. It is one thing making such a statement but backing it up is something else. Funny that I am still waiting for Day6 to answer my question. I will assume she has not been on Gn since I asked it.

Brilliant. Hoist by their own shabby petards!

GabriellaG54 Wed 10-Apr-19 23:54:21

If the forecast in growth for 2020 is downgraded to 1.4%, I doubt that the world will come to a halt for the sake of .1%, the difference between the Jan'19 forecast and 12 months later.
IMO, it's an indication of our value to the EU that they fight tooth and nail to keep us in and it's not that they're looking after us in our best interests and only want the best for us.
Oh no. They well know that us leaving in an orderly manner would trigger other countries to do likewise and that would derail the gravy train.
Why is Macron so determined and angry?
You'd think he was the boss instead of just another member.
He doesn't even like us. They're all silly men.
