Donald Tusk

Sounds like he hasn't accepted Brexit.

Joelsnan I think the answer is that calling the referendum results ‘corrupted’ and ‘manipulation of social media’ etc etc
Is the last gasp of disappointed Remain voters who cannot
Think of anything else to say.
The referendum was run badly by both sides but the results still stand.

The official EU campaign and the LibDems were fined were fined thousands by election watchdogs, from PoliticsHome

If, maddyone you were to read the actual Electoral Commission document I linked to, rather than Politics Home, you will find that being fined for breaches of the financial rules are surprisingly common and there are varying amounts in fines. (It's always best to go to an original source) . Even the tory party has been fined and several occasions fancy that! The difference is that most 'offenders' are not fined the maximum amount, nor are they reported to the police by the EC for further investigation.

Vote Leave have admitted their guilt, really, by dropping their request for a judicial review. Their excuse is that they haven't the money to pursue it; I'd have thought that the openhanded Mr Banks, he of the £8 million donation of money of doubtful provenance as to its source would have been more than pleased to pick up the tab if Vote Leave had had a realistic chance of winning...

Whataboutery doesn't work in this instance.

And, while we're at it, maddyone try this document which explains how EU law is proposed, drafted and voted on.

There is a world of difference between 'badly run' and cheating with a bit of criminal activity thrown in.

Ginny42 Sun 31-Mar-19 02:28:18

Exactly MaizieD, and as I said on the Article 50 thread, senior Cabinet Ministers were found guilty of breaking the law, appealed and now they have withdrawn their appeal. Who can believe that they don't have the funds? What tosh, it's because they know they're guilty as charged. Meanwhile the whistleblower who informed and was dismissed, remains sacked.

If they are not brought to book, that means that they are above the law. I thought Sovereignty was a big issue with leave voters.

MaizieD Sun 31-Mar-19 08:56:41

Gove and Johnson have always said that they knew nothing about it despite the fact that they had key leadership roles and daily meetings with the group. Either they were aware of what was going on and condoned it, or, they had no idea. In either case it makes them unfit to run a country. Though, we already know, of course, that Johnson is unfit.

lutongranny Sun 31-Mar-19 09:01:40

that is all irrelevant history. move in to the present !!

grin

MaizieD Sun 31-Mar-19 09:02:56

I thought Sovereignty was a big issue with leave voters.

I think Leave voters have as many versions of 'sovereignty' as they do of 'leave'. In this instance it appears to be the ability to do whatever you like with the rules.

lutongranny Sun 31-Mar-19 09:08:56

wow clever generalisation, love a sweeping silly statement

MaizieD Sun 31-Mar-19 09:10:32

This is the present, Ug. These two charlatans are jockeying for position in the tory leadership race. Which was, incidentally, exactly what they were doing 3 years ago when they plumped for supporting Leave. They didn't particularly believe in Leave, just thought it would position them better. They didn't even think they'd 'win'.

The fact that you', and no doubt most Leavers, would like to brush it all under the carpet speaks volumes for your moral compass.

MaizieD Sun 31-Mar-19 09:12:14

andyc was much more amusing than you, lutong ?

lutongranny Sun 31-Mar-19 09:15:54

naturally grin

Ginny42 Sun 31-Mar-19 10:34:30

Make no bones about this, if it was you or I we'd be very lucky to get out of going to prison.

We were all lied to and I don't blame anyone for being conned, they were convincing liars and in Johnson's case he had previous. Now they're proven fraudsters they should face the penalty for breaking the law.

I think that's why TM is doggedly pushing ahead because she's now saving the Tories from the further disgrace of having Ministers facing imprisonment. I see she's going to try again tomorrow.

Last week JRM, and Johnson 'changed their minds'. Why shouldn't the public have the opportunity to change theirs?

Nonnie Sun 31-Mar-19 10:38:00

joelsnan I think this has been explained to you so many times but you are still not getting it. I see no point in keep repeating the same thing over and over again if you are not willing to listen. Such a shame when many of us are open minded and prepared to hear what others have to say and be persuaded.

Leave & co are the only ones reported to the police for action as well as being fined the maximum penalty. It really is as simple as that

lemongrove Sun 31-Mar-19 10:41:52

Move on for pity’s sake.?

Nonnie Sun 31-Mar-19 10:42:20

At some future anniversary of this debacle TM will be interviewed and, hopefully, explain why she behaved the way she has. Certain well known Leave campaigners will simply bluster and give a version of events that none of us recognise.

notentirelyallhere Sun 31-Mar-19 10:53:54

I'd like to see the evidence for Leave campaigners being the only ones reported to the police and being fined. Having just watched a video, available on the Irish Times, of the latest Leave protest outside the Houses of Parliament, during which participants spray painted a Nazi symbol on an EU flag and then held it up to cheering, I'm not surprised! Nothing remotely like this happened on the 25th March march.

notentirelyallhere Sun 31-Mar-19 11:02:21

And perhaps those Leavers who insist on their intelligence and keen understanding could use those gifts to educate their less gifted compatriots :

maddyone Sun 31-Mar-19 11:03:58

Absolutely Lemon.

maddyone Sun 31-Mar-19 11:06:12

One person amongst an entire population! For pity’s sake!

Are remain voters more intelligent than leave voters then?

lemongrove Sun 31-Mar-19 11:09:21

Apparently so maddyone ?......at least in their own minds!

MaizieD Sun 31-Mar-19 11:31:01

Here are some lovely Leavers for you. Nice ordinary looking people aren't they? Interviewed by a French Journalist at the Leavers' demo on Friday. Don't speak French? I'll roughly translate. This is said by the woman on the right (sadly not entirely on view in this picture)

The problem is the London Mayor. He's a Muslim. He's looking to ban the sale of bacon. We want him hung and cut into pieces

maddyone Sun 31-Mar-19 11:44:09

I voted remain Maizie, but now I’d vote leave. Which group should I align myself with?

maddyone Sun 31-Mar-19 11:56:34

I think you’re right Lemon, Remainers think they’re more intelligent than Leave voters.

Well my sister voted Remain. She only told me last week that she voted Remain because all her four children told her to vote Remain. She didn’t have a clue as to why she’d voted remain, except that all her ‘guys’ voted remain. Whilst we were together she received a text from one of her sons, who was instructing her sign the Revoke Article 50 petition. She didn’t know how to find it online so my DiL (a leave voter) found it for her, and she added her name. Because her son told her to.

I love my sister, but I cannot on that evidence really can’t conclude that remain voters are more intelligent than leave voters. Again it’s only one example, but it simply shows that people on both sides of the debate are intelligent, or not intelligent. Everyone has their own opinion. My sister’s opinion was that her children were right so she chose to obey them without a clue as to why she was doing so. (Luckily she doesn’t read Gransnet or in fact do very much online at all.)
