The embarrassment of the Tories

“It is said that those whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad”
This is a quote in a newspaper editorial, which I thought extremely apt.
The editorial is headed
“Britain is being ruled by a party that has lost its political bearings”
Goes on to outline the reckless ill discipline so evident in the government, and in particular the leak over the Huawei decision, which defied two of the fundamental rules of British government -

Collective responsibility and official secrecy.

We can rely on neither of those concepts with this dreadful government.

If a government fails in such fundamentals it has failed completely.

Yet again, a political thread has been derailed by the meaningless argument of 'the other side is even worse'. To get back on track, this is a breach of the OSA, which has never happened before in ANY government and should be wholeheartedly condemned by everyone, no matter what their political leanings are.

Mycatisahacker Fri 26-Apr-19 11:34:33

He’s also won beard of the year 6 times and that hardly makes him the stuff of a PM.

Who are they???

see you and others like you are part of the problem. Polarising politics.

If you don’t worship Corbyn you are far right.

If you don’t worship Farrage you are far left and a traitor to Brexit.

Honestly when did we sink so low to gutter politics and shouty echo chambers.

Anyway in my view the labour front bench is equally as awful unpleasant and incompetent as the Tory front bench. I couldn’t vote for either.

Mycatisahacker Fri 26-Apr-19 11:35:41

The leak is utterly disgraceful and the culprit should be outed and sacked and possibly prosecuted.

Any government who thinks it is prudent to allow Chinese involvement in our telecommunications industry deserves to be exposed. The people should be told these things. There are too many secrets being kept, supposedly to keep the plebs under control.

Mycatisahacker Fri 26-Apr-19 11:59:41

I think if one of the group had told the pm if this went ahead they would in good conscience resign and publicly say why that’s integrity.

Lying and leaking Is cowardly

Whitewavemark2 Fri 26-Apr-19 12:01:15

It is criminal.
I trust qq that you aren’t supporting a criminal act?

Lily65 Fri 26-Apr-19 12:12:30

but, mycat, that is my point. I don't slavish follow anybody or anything.

If anybody comments on political party X, people say oh no Y is twice as bad.

On and on it rattles.

Anniebach Fri 26-Apr-19 11:24:49

This is your constant refrain Annie and it is really just for you. All you are doing is trying to reinforce the views you hold with anything and everything you can find. It is not discussion and it is very, very boring to just hear what is basically you, talking aloud and having a conversation with yourself to convince yourself that you are right.

GracesGranMK3 Fri 26-Apr-19 12:28:33

I'm not even sure who mycat is talking to.

As for the leak, I am in two minds about it. It was not a directly defence problem and I would want us to know we are doing deals like this with the Chinese. Hmmm.

Mycatisahacker Fri 26-Apr-19 12:35:33

Lily65

But I think it’s because it’s true. Both are awful. However I can see how I have skewered the original thread and so apologise.

GracesgranMK3

Generally to anyone who listens. You quite free to fade me out. grin

Mycatisahacker Fri 26-Apr-19 12:36:54

I think it would have held more integrity if the leaker went public!!! I suppose that would still be actionable but at least they are publish and be damned??

paddyann Fri 26-Apr-19 12:59:36

in my book Tory = evil self serving a corrupt ...they have always been this way .Look at their history. As for Corbyn being a self confessed marxist ...lol.It was in the dim and distant past ,how many toyed with communismas an ideal when they were young? Most moved onto socialism which is a very different thing.Thankfully I'll vote SNP and hopefully we'll have Independence very soon. The state Westminster is in and the people" leading the country" into oblivion are certainly helping the cause .

GracesGranMK3 Fri 26-Apr-19 13:42:39

Don't want to fade anyone out Mycat but don't want to be rude and not answer if one is needed.

M0nica Fri 26-Apr-19 13:43:57

In that cas Paddy you are part of the problem and an active contributor to the appalling state of politics today. Something to be proud of.

M0nica Fri 26-Apr-19 13:51:09

trisher labour are awful because, like the Conservatives they are busy fighting each other like ferrets in a sack, are always backbiting and hating each other and chose a leader who has consistently supported terrorist causes.

If he had done it because he was deeply convinced about the rightness of their cause, I might have disagreed but would have respected him. But he always leaves me with the thought that he supports things that cause outrage just to be awkward and difficult and annoy the people in charge. Most of us grow out of that once we cease to be stroppyteenagers.

GillT57 Fri 26-Apr-19 13:53:18

It is a sign of the desperation of Tory party members and supporters that the first thing they do when questioned about policy/achievements/austerity/scarcity of public spending etc., etc., is to say 'Oh, but it would be so much worse under a Corbyn government!'

Mycatisahacker Fri 26-Apr-19 14:01:43

It’s really amusing that any criticism of Corbyn is met with cries of ‘far right’ or Tory. grin

I never said Corbyn would be worse than this present shower I said they would be just as bad.

No even as a teenager I though communism was as ridiculous and as corrupt and evil as fascism. Maybe I was a cynical teenager! grin

Socialism isn’t what labour is now.

As I said in my view socialism died with John Smith.

Mycatisahacker Fri 26-Apr-19 14:04:49

paddyAnn

I thought the SNP have lost many seats in the last few elections and polls suggest most Scots don’t want another Indy Ref

M0nica Fri 26-Apr-19 14:10:36

Both parties are led by a coterie of privately educated posh boys.

Mycatisahacker Fri 26-Apr-19 14:16:32

MOnica

Totally agree.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 26-Apr-19 14:53:34

I and all my immediate family past and present have always voted Conservative.

I am not proud of my party at the moment, although my local MP is fantastic as is the one in the next constituency.

The only placards / banners being shown in and around these parts are “Conservative”. I would be very surprised if the so called “Tory heartlands” suddenly returned a Labour or Other Parties MP to HofP.

I only wish the infighting and leaks whether they be from MPs or Civil Servants would stop. Then hopefully they can get back to the business of running the Country.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 26-Apr-19 16:12:00

gg13 I think that the point is that they are not running the country, and haven’t done so with any success for a number of years

GrannyGravy13 Fri 26-Apr-19 16:14:36

Whitewavemark2, that was the point I made in my last paragraph, if somewhat clumsily. I agree that they should be attending to matters other than “flipping B****t”.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 26-Apr-19 16:19:30

?

Mycatisahacker Fri 26-Apr-19 17:29:03

God it’s depressing isn’t it.
