A Party Political Broadcast on behalf of The Brexit Party is on BBC1
tonight 18.55pm.

Urmstongran Wed 29-May-19 12:40:46

No I don’t think that Gill57 he’ll be too busy to do all that. Plus I don’t know how good he is personally at construction work ....
?
However if he does well in an election with plenty of MP’s in parliament he/his party members can shape events I’m sure of that!

We can’t be any worse off than this shower!

Urmstongran Wed 29-May-19 12:42:10

Just because I like the fairness of a level playing field does NOT make me racist, Jeez!

Elvive Wed 29-May-19 12:44:39

But referring to a whole race of people based on one negative experience could look a bit like racism?

Elvive Wed 29-May-19 12:47:14

Talking of people sending money home, do you think it's fair that ex pats ( immigrants) in Europe were paid winter fuel allowance.

Urmstongran Wed 29-May-19 12:52:17

It couldn’t possibly be that Leave voters aren’t keen on the EU because of all the money we give (but thank you Maggie for having the chutzpah to negotiate the refund), to have it dished back to us if our communities apply for some as ‘a worthy cause’?

The gravy train that politicians love? The salaries and very generous allowances of €4,300 a month (on top) that MEPs don’t even have to submit expense claims for - it’s just given as part of the package. All 751 of them.

The fact that the EU haven’t had their accounts audited now for over 12 years? Why is that I wonder?

Paying for the vanity project of sitting in Strasbourg and alternating in Brussels - what is THAT circus all about anyway - (flying first class, of course!), with a whole (but necessary because of the construct) army of interpreters to assist.

Oh no.
?

Urmstongran Wed 29-May-19 12:56:03

Well Elvive I don’t receive it yet and I’m only in Malaga part time. But good question.

Maybe I’m not the best one to ask. Then again, it’s an allowance isn’t it? Not a benefit. There’s a difference - the ex pats are pensioners who have paid into the system whilst they were working and living in the U.K.

And as some have pointed out on threads on here, they don’t all live on the sunny costas and their winters (? jura2) are cold!

Urmstongran Wed 29-May-19 12:58:53

One negative experience? Do me a favour.
I’m not that stupid (or gullible).

Right it’s hot here - I’m going over for a nice cold glass of beer in the bar in our gardens. Cool my fried brain for a bit!

Adios! ??

Nonnie Wed 29-May-19 13:05:31

Urmston I would question why you blame the Poles? If that happened (I will believe you even though you haven't shown any evidence) it was the fault of the employers who, presumably, were from the UK. I strongly suspect that what you suggest is probably widespread and would apply to anyone undercutting from wherever they came. You really cannot blame the EU for bad employers in the UK.

Whether or not it is right for MEPs to receive €4,300 a month or not it is a drop in the ocean compared to what we are losing already let alone what we will lose if we leave. Better to change it from within than having to abide by their rules to trade if we leave with no say on them.

crystaltipps Wed 29-May-19 13:12:01

It wasn’t the EU to blame for dodgy employment practices in the UK, our blessed government couldn’t be arsed to insist on EU treaty obligations, which countries with ID cards manage to enforce. I don’t think Farage is going to create the land of milk and honey for anyone.

Nonnie Wed 29-May-19 13:25:34

First time I heard NF say he would fight seats in a GE he said 250! Subsequently he has got the number right. However, we all make mistakes.

As he has failed to get himself elected as an MP 7 times I find it hard to believe he will get many MPs, let alone a majority. Where would he get 650 from? If he did they would be very inexperienced, although maybe inexperience in parliament might just be refreshing?

Nonnie Wed 29-May-19 13:26:01

I should have said 'politically experienced'

LarrythecatknowsitAll Wed 29-May-19 13:33:39

But I can’t see NF really producing a manifesto and wanting to run as a Westminster MP he’s only interested in Brexit????

Not health education etc? Wouldn’t have thought he wanted to work that hard??

crystaltipps Wed 29-May-19 13:44:34

Aren’t his supporters ex Ukippers?

Nonnie Wed 29-May-19 13:44:41

But Larry he has said he will fight the next GE with 650 candidates. I imagine his backers will pay for someone to produce policies for him.

Nonnie Wed 29-May-19 13:45:35

If he pays people now to do all the work he can probably get away with the spending limits for elections because it will all have been done before the election is announced.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 29-May-19 13:47:44

I suspect Farage is thinking very hard about fighting the next GE. It is very unlikely indeed judging from the EU election results that he will get any seats at all.

So I don’t honestly think we need to worry of a hard right nationalist take over.

Labaik Wed 29-May-19 14:32:15

Am I missing something here. Do you live in Malaga Urmstongran? If so aren't you worried how Brexit will affect healthcare etc over there?

LarrythecatknowsitAll Wed 29-May-19 14:53:48

I just can’t see him as the type to want all that ongoing responsibility!

MaizieD Wed 29-May-19 15:23:48

Sheesh, Ug!! I hope you can see the irony of what you've said! You clearly must be judging all MEPs to be like your blessed Nigel, 20 years an MEP and has done nothing to 'earn' the salary in all that time. Most MEPs actually do something to earn their salaries.

Moving to Srasbourg once a month? MEPs don't seem to like it but there's nothing they can do about it

Every MEP I speak to admits the 'Strasbourg shift' is mad. They find it a hassle and bad for their image but say there's nothing they can do. Bound by an EU treaty, the move could only be scrapped if France agreed.

Framilode Wed 29-May-19 15:34:02

Expats in warm countries haven't received winter fuel allowance for years. Spain is actually quite a cold country but they included the Canaries in it to bring up the average temperature.

Joelsnan Wed 29-May-19 15:41:20

GillT57
For heavens sake joelsnan read it. Or are you frightened of the truth?

I did read it prior to my comment...whose truth, yours? Mine? Or someone who thinks they know the truth?

lemongrove Wed 29-May-19 15:41:27

I don’t think that NF intends fighting any GE tbh.
He wanted to give both main parties, especially the Conservatives a bloody nose for not delivering Brexit as promised. As others have said, he is not an MP.He has achieved his aim and is probably unlikely to go further.

MaizieD Wed 29-May-19 15:42:49

Trying to find out what proportion of the EU budget is spent on admin. It seems it is less than 7% but I'm not clear if this includes MEPs' salaries or not.

FWIW Information here;

MaizieD Wed 29-May-19 15:48:49

What is your 'truth' then, Joelsnan?

Were there any lies in the NYT article?

Nonnie Wed 29-May-19 15:56:06

Lemon why do you think NF doesn't intend to fight the GE? Is it because you believe he tells lies?
