Head teacher at Anderton County Primary school has been threatened because the school issuing the Outsider books. Jess Philips is the local MP, she attended today to support the school and was told by one protester that those who support the use of the books were islamophobic. I'm in support of the schools, the books and Jess Philips.

It's not uncommon in universities for what you once would consider a heterosexual couple, to now be part of the LGBTQ+ community, they are the Q.

EllanVannin Wed 22-May-19 11:26:27

No wonder there's so many mental health issues among children-------they're confused at being indoctrinated by those with nothing else better to do than to foist their own personal views on everyone.
If it's not being dictated to on what to eat/drink/and how much, what to wear or not, it's now become another dictatorship about what gender you'd prefer to be. The world's gone completely mad.
Who needs a government ? It's society who's doing the dictating !!

Elvive Wed 22-May-19 11:31:04

What a load of old codswallop. Nobody wants to hurt people because of their sexuality, those days are gone ( in this country) thank God.

This obsession with sex and difference and gender is totally inappropriate for children. Let them be bloody children. They are pretty clued up most of the time anyway.

trisher Wed 22-May-19 11:37:35

EllanVannin what a lot of bias and bigotry! I worked with a man who for years had to keep his sexuality secret. He was a brilliant teacher and being able to celebrate his civil partnership was so joyful and liberating for everyone. He never promoted his sexuality to children but he was quick to spot when the other boys were teasing a child who was obviously different and he dealt with it quietly, but made it absolutely clear to the boys that their behaviour wasn't acceptable, at the same time reassuring the victim that he would find his place in society. The idea that children live this protected life and don't absorb society's prejudices and act on this unless someone teaches them better is ridiculous. Suppose someone comes from a racist family and brings this into school wouldn't you expect the school to teach them better? If so why not teach different sexuality as well? Because there are still a lot of families where children are taught homosexuality is a sin.

Anniebach Wed 22-May-19 11:38:43

Agree with Ellan and Elvive

Eglantine21 Wed 22-May-19 11:38:47

Oh Elvira, if only that were true.

Many people and religions believe that homosexuality is a sin and should be punished. In this country.

And take that punishment into their own hands.

Anniebach Wed 22-May-19 11:43:28

Homosexuals have been beaten up, even murdered, not by people with religious beliefs, but by thugs who find the thought of two men having sex is disgusting

DoesAnyoneKnow Wed 22-May-19 11:46:49

The Orlando massacre was perpetrated by a gay man.

EllanVannin Wed 22-May-19 11:51:12

Because their heads are full of confusion, that's why, DAK.
They are an unbalanced sector of the community !

EllanVannin Wed 22-May-19 11:53:37

I don't have a bigoted view Trisher----mine's more a psychological insight and I can see the danger that these " teachings " can and are bringing.

Eglantine21 Wed 22-May-19 11:54:46

Well there we are☹️

DoesAnyoneKnow Wed 22-May-19 12:00:21

I don't understand the branch of LGBTQ+ (Andrew Moffat and his queer theory side who want everyone to love the fact that males are females and just be kind and accept it) that is encouraging and bullying lesbians xx chromosome type to accept xy chromosome male bodied, male genitalia people identifying as lesbian women, if they don't want someone they don't want someone.

I don't understand anyone wanting to medicate a child and label them trans (they are often gay or autistic) because their leisure, clothing or toy choices don't match current society norms.

If that's ^ passing for progress and modern, count me out.

Gonegirl Wed 22-May-19 12:11:55

O.M.G!!! Gays are no more unbalanced than the rest of us! They get married and have happy lives, just like hetrosexual people.

Mycatisahacker Wed 22-May-19 12:29:02

The facts of perils of a multicultural society!

Unless the host country has robust dogmatic and no nonsense laws you will always have challenges from minority communities who may have different religions/moral views.

Of course in most Islamic countries dissent is punished by various dreadful punishments.

Liberal western democracies shouldn’t and can’t do this.

It’s a question of whose values are more important and who will be strongest.

Be interesting to see

DoesAnyoneKnow Wed 22-May-19 12:35:54

Of course in most Islamic countries dissent is punished by various dreadful punishments.

How is "wrong think" be it over school teaching, Brexit or anything else, dissent and intolerance punished in 2019 UK?

pinkquartz Wed 22-May-19 12:38:55

In many ways this is a clash that is inevitable.
Our culture is liberal and increasingly tolerant.
Which is great, so how is that ever going to work with a religion that is not tolerant.
Sadly our tolerance has allowed bigotry to go unchecked and now the clash is coming.

DoesAnyoneKnow Wed 22-May-19 12:48:02

bigot
NOUN
A person who is intolerant towards those holding different opinions.

The Muslim and LGBTQ+ communities hold different opinions to each other.

Lesbian feminists who are gender critical hold different opinions to those in the LGBTQ+ community who hold queer theory opinions.

People hold different opinions on Brexit.

Mycatisahacker Wed 22-May-19 12:48:19

Well I think that’s right PinkQuartz this isn’t going away as religions, like politics, seem to becoming more intolerant and fundamentally entrenched.

Sorry I can’t really understand your post.

We don’t punish protesters here we disperse and occasionally arrest. Is that what you we’re asking?

Mycatisahacker Wed 22-May-19 12:49:48

Oh right so what practically do you think the school should do then DoesAnyoneKnow

Practically not theory

Nonnie Wed 22-May-19 13:29:40

Sorry only read the first page, not time to read the other 9.

Wasn't a fan of JP when all she did was bash men but have now seen another side of her. She had to give up on trying to reason because he wasn't listening.

Hope this hasn't already been said but the head of that school is gay and has been chosen the lead the Birmingham Pride procession. Many of the protesters were carrying placards saying 'we are not homophobic' which seems significant to me.

I can understand why they don't want their children taught things they don't agree with but if it is the law of the land they should state how they feel and then accept what is lawful. There are things I don't agree with but have to accept because they are lawful.

Iam64 Wed 22-May-19 13:33:18

EllanV - I may have missed something but I;ve seen no comments that say parents aren't allowed to ensure their children understand the family/community/faith groups belief systems.
trisher points out that no one has mentioned the particular difficulties faced by gay men in communities that see them as abhorrent, making bad life style choices etc. Those children deserve to have information that helps them understand they aren't alone and that not everyone follows the belief system they're being brought up in. What's scary about that?

DoesAnyoneKnow Wed 22-May-19 13:42:19

You have one group who believe children are naturally born gay or transgender and that they know from a young age. This group believe they are protecting a child's freedom to be who they were born to be and that they only have this one life.

You have another group who believe children are born without a sexuality and gender identity, that it's nurture.

You then have a group that believe children are nurtured and that it's going to damage their souls ability to reach a special place after death. They believe that they are protecting their child's soul and that there is not only this life on earth to consider.

We have a right to freedom of belief.

Mycatisahacker Wed 22-May-19 13:50:38

Does anyone else feel just teach kids to be kind! To anyone and everyone just be kind.

I can’t be doing with all this deeper soul meanings or lesbian men!!!

Just teach kids to be kind

Gonegirl Wed 22-May-19 13:51:26

Where's the like button?

Iam64 Wed 22-May-19 13:54:22

Does anyone know - we agree, we have rights to freedom of belief
Mycat - yes ??
