Sadiq Kahn’s views on Donald Trump - unprofessional?

Not sure if gransnetters outside of London know what our mayor is saying, but he’s going way over the top in my opinion.
He really needs to keep his personal hatred of another politician to himself, especially a politician who’s one of our greatest allies.

What do you think?

As I have said on another thread he has a sense of humour a blimp of him in a bikini was flown as well. It's a joke FFS.

Clearly one that appeals to the lowest common denominator.
Crude, like your language.

There s an American balloon of Trump on a toilet that has been brought over by some Americans who
say they are embarrassed by Trump. Not sure who will get the blame for that one.

SirChenjin Tue 04-Jun-19 08:38:16

The PC brigade crystal, obviously grin

EllanVannin Tue 04-Jun-19 09:35:16

How would all the protesters feel if they were greeted in this way after landing in the States ( as presumably many fly there on holiday !) " we don't want you in our country " !
Imagine being met with a billboard " go home " etc etc. Not very welcoming is it ?
To those who go to the States--------stop being two-faced !

EllanVannin Tue 04-Jun-19 09:36:59

______complete with big fat balloon.

Glammy57 Tue 04-Jun-19 09:37:42

Day6 - I am being dismissive of EllanVannin’s ridiculous comment: “I have never felt the same since Lee Rigby’s death”! How on earth is that related to the discussion of Sadiq Kahn and Donald Trump?

trisher Tue 04-Jun-19 09:40:06

If I were a racist mysoginistic Islamaphobe I probably wouldn't notice EllanVannin. If I saw such a response to someone like that I would think 'good for them"
Where does this concept that all Americans like Trump come from? He is possibly going to be impeached. He is hated by many Americans especially women.

Grany Tue 04-Jun-19 09:59:28

Trump want to buy up our NHS so not really an ally.

There will be demonstrations in Trafalger Square today when people will turn their back on him in a silent protest. A good thing too horrible man.

People need to stand up and speak truth to power.

Anniebach Tue 04-Jun-19 10:02:34

And he is supported by many Americans.

Why didn’t the President of China get all this flack when he had a state visit two years ago ?

Corbyn who wants to be PM attended the state banquet for the Chinese President but is joining the protests for the American President

“Disgruntled chip on their shoulders
Protesters”? Nothing like lumping everyone together. Could call Trump supporters the same if I was going to do a sweeping generalisation which some on here seem fond of.

SirChenjin Tue 04-Jun-19 10:13:08

Or the people who refuse to tolerate bigotry, misogyny and racism.

Callistemon Tue 04-Jun-19 10:13:21

I think we should put Kirstie in charge of both of them.
She would confiscate their phones/iPads, smash them against the kitchen table leg and refuse to buy them new ones until they both stop tweeting.

She would also make them sit in economy whilst she, Mrs Trump and Mrs Khan sit in first class, at least until they both learn how to behave.

tickingbird Tue 04-Jun-19 10:17:25

I think Khan, Corbyn et al are a disgrace. The state of London and the rise in violent crime is something Khan should be ashamed of. Love or hate Trump, the depth of bile and insult toward him is typical of the liberal left and the rentamob brigade. When you consider the tyrants and despots we’ve entertained over here ie evil Mugabe (he ordered the bulldozing of orphanages in villages where they’d voted for an opponent), this outrage over Trump is hypocrisy to the nth degree. The man might be an embarrassment in many ways and dangerous in others but he was democratically elected and I find this flying of blimp balloons etc totally wrong and a shame on our country.

As for Corbyn, he attended a memorial for Arab thugs who tortured and murdered innocent Israeli athletes but refuses to meet Trump. Meets murdering IRA terrorists but won’t meet Trump? What a despicable piece of work he is.

EllanVannin Tue 04-Jun-19 10:18:43

Why would Trump supporters have a chip on their shoulder ? For what reason ?

EllanVannin Tue 04-Jun-19 10:21:55

Corby's army are out in full force protesting-----no surprise there !

TerriBull Tue 04-Jun-19 10:25:42

It was a state visit for heaven's sake by POTUS, of course Trump's an obnoxious individual, but have all the presidents been nice individuals or indeed any head of state as per the point of Annie's post regarding the President of China. It's about political expediency not the cult of the individual.

Going back to the OP, yes Sadiq Khan has been completely unprofessional as the Mayor of London he should come across as less partisan.

As for Corbyn pathetic! God forbid he ever becomes PM, he just doesn't have the gravitas to put aside his personal grievances and act the statesman which is requirement for the world stage, two faced it may be, but that's what's expected. Does anyone imagine Macron and Merkel have a high opinion of Trump but I can't imagine a scenario where they would not meet and greet on an official visit.

SirChenjin Tue 04-Jun-19 10:25:48

Excellent! Well done them ???

tickingbird Tue 04-Jun-19 10:35:01

Well they’ll never be anything so they’ve got to make a name for themselves somehow. I must admit I do enjoy watching the lefties getting themselves all hysterical and foot stampy when they don’t get their own way. So funny.

Jabberwok Tue 04-Jun-19 10:49:04

You're so right Annie! Presumably lack of democracy, human rights and Tiananmen Square, not to mention Tibet are perfectly ok when it's China, but a visit from the Potus is a signal for hysterical, childish rude damaging protests, that will change absolutely nothing. Prince Harry needs to polish up his manners and sense of duty too. Perhaps someone needs to remind him that along with all the wealth and privilege of his position, supporting his Grandmother is also part of the package, however distasteful it may personally be. Sulking in the corner is not!!

EllanVannin Tue 04-Jun-19 10:56:15

Totally agree Tickingbird, well said.

EllanVannin Tue 04-Jun-19 11:05:03

Jabberwok it sadly looks as though Prince Harry is being " controlled " by his Trump-hating wife. I sincerely hope that isn't the case as I do remember reading that he was otherwise engaged on another mission during this visit. Again, whether this was purposely arranged, I wouldn't know.

Callistemon Tue 04-Jun-19 11:11:25

Harry was there doing his duty, but as not one of the main royals what was he supposed to do - push his way to the front, shove his grandmother, father and brother out of the way?
We didn't see everything so presumably he greeted Trump at some point and keeping his real feelings under control presumably.

Anniebach Tue 04-Jun-19 11:30:33

Harry is a minor royal , why do some expect him to be to the fore

Beckett Tue 04-Jun-19 13:13:11

From the pictures I have seen (I don't take that much interest) Harry seemed to be entertaining other guests whilst the Queen was busy with Trump - seems about right to me.
