Most of the Conservative MPs are intelligent , I must suppose. I am not being sarcastic, I truly dont know why they want Johnson.

Apologies for posting the above twice

Conservatives have a tiny majority of 3, including the DUP ...

“The key test is whether the Conservatives’ new leader is able to command the confidence of the House of Commons,” they write. “Whether the new Conservative party leader can command parliamentary confidence is clearly in some doubt given comments from Conservative MPs that they may not be able to support the new government. The government only has a majority of three, including the DUP, so only a very few rebels is enough for it to lose its majority.

“One possible scenario is that a group of Conservative MPs is so concerned about the winning candidate that they declare their withdrawal of support immediately the result of the leadership contest is known – ie, before the new PM is appointed. This would pose a serious dilemma for the Queen and those advising her, because it would not be clear that the new Conservative leader could command confidence.”

Glammy57 being rich does not equate with despicable, and what’s funny about posters calling him BJ if they want to, just as Corbyn is called JC often, an abbreviation and faster to type.

GracesGranMK3 Mon 01-Jul-19 07:18:48

I don't think Glammy's post did equate despicable to rich - that is not how we would normally read a list of descriptors.

I would expand this to say (for the nitpickers) that he is both despicable in his carelessness for others and appears to be unjustly wealthy.

GracesGranMK3 Mon 01-Jul-19 07:32:55

Very interesting Jura. The figures seem to strangely reflect the country. I think, on a "what do I know" basis, that most MPs would not want to involve the Queen if the could avoid it but, in the end, she, as head of state, would have to be the arbiter.

You have to ask just what we have been brought to in an attempt to save the Conservative party though and how some of its members could remain in it whatever happens. Unlike Putin I do not think our view of liberal democracy in the world and certainly in the west, is anything like dead.

lemon 'being rich does not equate with despicable,'

I agree, it just depends what you do with it, and how you treat other people and whether you are prepared to pay tax to support others less fortunate and key services.

As you know, I am not a native speaker of English, but I read Glammy's post as 'he is rich and despicable on top'- and as such, I totally agree with her.

Callistemon Mon 01-Jul-19 10:19:11

It didn't read like that, though, did it.

I'll repeat what I said in my earlier post despising someone because they are rich is prejudiced
Corbyn was a rich boy too

It's Boris's other attributes which are worrying.
As are Corbyn's

Callistemon Mon 01-Jul-19 10:27:29

If we are going to nit-pick, then coordinate adjectives should have a comma between them, eg
despicable, rich boy
As he is 55, boy is hardly the best noun to use either.

Prejudice is not helpful in this serious situation.

Overgrown schoolboy ??

whywhywhy Mon 01-Jul-19 11:03:56

I think they are all idiots, so they like him. It doesn't make sense. This is the worse government that we have ever had and Boris will make it worse. x

newnanny Mon 01-Jul-19 12:12:33

I like him because he is competitive. I saw him rugby challenge a child in a contest. It was so funny as most politicians would have just let the child win and I really hate that insincerity and fake behaviour. In that sense he is honest that he wants to win. He won London, a very Labour City, twice and when he was in charge he ran London well. He did a brilliant job of hosting Olympics in 2012. The Olympics ran like clockwork in London. I went to several events myself and the transport links and security around events was really good. All of the stabbings we keep hearing about in London were not happening when Boris was in charge. He is popular among younger voters who like him because he is funny. My boys do not like politicians at all but they do like Boris because he has a big personality. One son also has just reminded me that Boris also improved the air quality in London with his Boris Bikes and charging zones to reduce car pollution. Most importantly I believe he is the candidate most likely to lead us out of EU on 31st October if we have no deal by then. I don't believe Hunt will do that. That is why I like Boris. Hunt is too establishment for me. Those are my reasons.

Good to read a post on this thread, newnanny, that simply sets out the reasoning for an opinion without getting personal with other posters. Well done.

Newnanny the Boris bikes were instigated by Ken Livingstone as was the Oyster card which improved London transport making the city cleaner. Boris did very little in his term as mayor except spend money on plans for bridges etc which were not feasible.

Ilovecheese Mon 01-Jul-19 12:44:47

But Boris Johnson did not introduce the congestion charge. That was Ken Livingstone.

Callistemon Mon 01-Jul-19 17:47:40

Newnanny the Boris bikes were instigated by Ken Livingstone
Really?
The bikes were introduced in 2010 and Boris had been Mayor for two years by then.

Perhaps Ken had thought about it but got nowhere. The quickest move he ever made was when he somehow, by fair means or foul, became Leader of the GLC in 1981 in a takeover by the left.

jura2 Mon 01-Jul-19 18:35:25

newnanny- he could have seriously injured that kid- how would you feel about his 'honesty' if he had broken his arm or worse, his neck. Honesty? for sure not- just a massive selfish bully, no less.

jura2 Mon 01-Jul-19 18:36:52

Honest in the sense the people who like him would have liked to call Muslim women 'letterboxes' themselves, or the French 'turds', and on and on- racist, bullying, inexcusable insults.

Callistemon Mon 01-Jul-19 19:13:58

He didn't rugby tackle him - he gave him a glancing shove with his arm and the child was laughing jura.
Perhaps should have wrapped them all up in cotton wool first.

jura2 Mon 01-Jul-19 19:44:32

Just watched the video again- he pushed him very hard and fell with his whole weight on him.

Both GDs play rugby, and sil and DD1 are trained rugby coaches- no cotton wool in our family for sure.

jura2 Mon 01-Jul-19 19:47:05

Look at his face - against a small kid sad

Callistemon Mon 01-Jul-19 19:47:29

fell with his whole weight on him.
we must have been looking at a different video then.

Gonegirl Mon 01-Jul-19 19:49:24

He's just an over-excitable idiot! grin

jura2 Mon 01-Jul-19 19:57:58

Callistemon- just watched again- you are right he didn't- by miracle and because the kid was quick and nimble. Nevertheless- anyone who tackles a small kid like that, is not quite right in the head.

Dinahmo Mon 01-Jul-19 22:56:07

newnanny You cannot be serious!

newnanny Mon 01-Jul-19 23:36:32

Boris likes to win. I understand that because I do too. I don't play rugby but when I play Ludo with children I build up double counters and do not let them pass, I beat them at Monopoly and draughts too. I never let children win just because they are a child. It would be condescending. I am sure Boris introduced the bikes in London and painted them blue. Jura2 I had never thought of woman with faces covered as letter boxes and have a few Muslim friends who cover their hair but not their faces. I like the French, so much so that I have bought a house in France and spend a lot of time there. I do not think I am racist in the slightest. I let my buy2let houses to Polish and Romanian as well as English tenants. I don't discriminate on race. I just think Boris will get us out of the EU because his political career will depend upon it.
