Brecon and Radnor . The Tory MP out.

Be most jnteresting, always been Tory, Labour, Libs. This time Brexit Party too.

Anniebach Wed 26-Jun-19 14:14:36

My apologies to Monmouthshire I did type

Montgomeryshire in the second line of my post

I have lived in both counties

Callistemon Wed 26-Jun-19 14:54:32

grin
That's OK!

Anniebach Fri 05-Jul-19 08:48:10

The by election in Brecon and Radnor 1st August .

Plaid Cymru and Greens are not putting forward a candidate, they are supporting Lib Dem.

Brexit candidate is Des Parkinson, a retired police super has stood for UKIP and the Tories in council elections and The Welsh Assembly.

Callistemon Fri 05-Jul-19 15:23:34

That's interesting!
Jane Dodds has failed to be elected twice, hasn't she? But then, up against the Tory and his expenses scandal, she may well stand a good chance.

Anniebach Fri 05-Jul-19 15:42:13

Yes Callistemon , a mistake selecting her in my opinion.
Brecon and Radnor have never had a female MP, the most successful have been Male farmers , one was labour , two
Libs .

The only Lib in the Welsh Assembly is AM for this area , female , married to a farmer

Anniebach Wed 10-Jul-19 08:45:48

Had chat with some chaps out canvassing yesterday, seems it may be a Brexit win

Anniebach Mon 29-Jul-19 17:27:21

Labour has discovered there is a constituency in Mid Wales,

Baroness Shami plus several labour MP’s and Oxford students are canvassing in Brecon and Radnor. Not the mighty one though. Doubt he knows there is such a place.

suziewoozie Mon 29-Jul-19 17:34:17

annie do I recall correctly on another thread that you’d decided not to vote? Oh please vote LD, please?

Callistemon Mon 29-Jul-19 17:34:56

Oh, is that why Jacob Rees-Mogg & Son were in Wales, presumably wearing Welsh tweed jackets!

Callistemon Mon 29-Jul-19 17:36:45

He was brought up in a Border County though, I wonder if they ever went west ….
the mighty one not Rees-Mogg.

Anniebach Mon 29-Jul-19 17:38:44

I am not voting , I had decided to vote for the Lib candidate
but as she can’t give an honest answer to a simple question

‘Where do you live ? ‘ it was embarrassing listening to her.

Anniebach Mon 29-Jul-19 19:48:28

Oh what a pity, the Brexit campaign bus broke down on the Brecon Beacons at the weekend.

I love my mountains ?

growstuff Mon 29-Jul-19 22:52:28

Jane Dodds lives in Powys, just outside Welshpool. She hasn't tried to hide it - it's on her website.

varian Mon 29-Jul-19 23:12:04

Jane Dodds is the leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats. She was born and raised in Wales and speaks Welsh.

I am sure if she becomes MP for Brecon and Radnor she will make her home in the constituency.

Anniebach Tue 30-Jul-19 08:26:01

Jane Dodds was born in Wrexham, has land there and a home in England .

growstuff Tue 30-Jul-19 08:30:33

So what?

Anniebach Tue 30-Jul-19 08:37:06

When asked ‘where do you live ‘ 4 times she repeated
‘North Powys ‘ .

I asked Libs who were canvassing for her, they avoided the question too. They didn’t say North Powys, Wrexham or
Welshpool.

growstuff Tue 30-Jul-19 10:57:24

She doesn't live in Wrexham, does she? I thought Welshpool IS in North Powys. Maybe they didn't know where she lives. I understand that the LibDems have imported a number of activists from outside the area. My own MP has no connection with the area she represents, doesn't live here and has no intention of doing so. My guess is that not too many candidates live in the area they represent. The issue is whether they are prepared to speak up for it, if elected.

Anniebach Tue 30-Jul-19 11:24:05

Then when asked ‘where do you live ‘ several times in a radio interview did she not say Welshpool, she kept replying
‘North Powys.

The Labour candidate lives in Brecon

The Brexit candidate lives in Llandrindod Wells

The conservative candidate lives in Glasbury

varian Tue 30-Jul-19 12:27:35

Anniebach do you really think that the good people of Brecon and Radnor (including yourself) deserve to be represented by a party led by Jremy Corbyn or Nigel Farage or Boris Johnson?

I hope not.

varian Tue 30-Jul-19 12:28:23

Jeremy Corbyn (not Jermy)

Anniebach Tue 30-Jul-19 12:33:20

No varian but for me honesty is important, and avoiding naming where in the county one lives she has caused me to
doubt her.

Anniebach Fri 02-Aug-19 08:16:17

1. Libs 13,826

2. Conservatives 12,401

3. Brexit 3,321

4. Labour 1,680

Whitewavemark2 Fri 02-Aug-19 08:20:29

A clear message

No deal is not an option.

varian Fri 02-Aug-19 08:21:48

Congratulations to our new Liberal Democrat MP Jane Dodds and her brilliant team.

Many thanks to Plaid Cymru and the Green Party and all the good people of Brecon and Radnorshire who voted for Jane.
