Farage said that anyone in UK civil service or military who doesn’t believe in Brexit should be removed. My jaw dropped. This is outrageous. It is fascistic to apply a single issue to determine “loyalty” as if we were in a war of religion. Shame on him.
What has this got to do with fascism, Day6?
? wrong thread I think day6
Does anyone remember Gorbachev? Well respected chap many moons ago. He came out with something I found rather interesting .... ""The most puzzling development in politics during the last decade is the apparent determination of Western European leaders to re-create the Soviet Union in Western Europe."" There are many pros and cons to both arguments. In my opinion. However, if we do ever leave I do hope that we will finally be able to put an end to the horrendous live animal export trade. Once Britain leaves the EU, the country could ban the export of thousands of live farm animals to mainland Europe. As it stand we are unable to do anything about that. It might seem minor to some but it's been one of my 'causes' for years.
So if Farage is calling for civil servants and military remain voters to be got rid of, whose he intending to fill the jobs?
No, my post IS pertinent to this thread, which has, as most do, meandered. I was replying to Elegran's post (up there) when she asked why we voted to go it alone...."when biggest is best", or considered to be.
I did actually quote the post I was replying to. Didn't you notice?
Brexit is mentioned in the majority of posts on the previous page.

Well said ?
I have several scuffles with the police and public in Brightlingsea in 1995. And all for nothing ?
The civil servants and MPs need to support Brexit because that is what the majority of people in this country, who took the trouble to vote in the Referendum, have chosen to do.
Civil servants carry out the orders of the Government of the day, regardless of whether they agree with the policies or not, and to give unbiased information to that Government based on reputable research.
That does show a weakness and a lack of influence in our EU membership, minniemoo, in that we have not been able to bring about change in the export of live farm animals.
How can anyone believe that the 'urbane' Farage speaks for anyone but himself and his self-serving cronies?
He doesn't give flying fig about the ostensibly patriotic man/woman in the street but by the time his naive and gullible fans realise this they'll have f*** things up for all of us.
I reiterate - the supporters of Farage/ Johnson/ Trump are no doubt quite happy to see things going the way they're going now!
which has, as most do, meandered.
I've just checked back, Day6 and it certainly hadn't meandered. It was firmly fixed on fascism.
Brexit is mentioned in the majority of posts on the previous page.
Well, of course it is. It's Brexit that is facilitating the rise of fascist ideas in the UK.
I don't recall anyone insisting on 'the will of the people' or calling the judiciary 'enemies of the people, or suggesting that we purge the civil service and the military of those who aren't true believers in a particular ideology, pre 2016. Or calling people 'traitors' who don't subscribe to that ideology. If you can't recognise these as fascist ideas I'm sorry, but they are. And you can see them in the writings of pre-war Nazis... It seems that some Brexit campaigners rather admired them...
A leading campaigner for Brexit heaped praise on the “very clever” propaganda techniques of the Nazis and Isis, a recording has revealed.

How can anyone believe that the 'urbane' Farage speaks for anyone but himself and his self-serving cronies?
He speaks for me, regarding Brexit, and at least 17.4 million who voted to leave.
How on earth can you dismiss the feelings of at least half those who bothered to vote in the referendum? Have you not understood that those who have been sneered at, belittled, been told they are 'stupid' or 'racist' ever since Remainers lost in 2016, are glad to have someone, anyone, stand up to what is going on in Parliament?
If Nigel Farage hadn't done it, our postman was on the verge of creating a revolution on behalf of Leavers. He is Muslim, and far from being fascist - and all the slurs Remainers have hurled at Farage.
I've just checked back, Day6 and it certainly hadn't meandered. It was firmly fixed on fascism
It is also, page two of this thread, firmly fixed on the topic of leaving the EU.
Maisie - score points if you wish, belittle posters who disagree with you, but do not deny what is there for all to see. It makes you look...well...I shan't say.
I will gladly number/list the posts which refer to Brexit on page two of this thread, including the one I replied to.
Leaving the EU is a feature of page two of this thread, like it or not.
Leaving the EU is a feature of page two of this thread, like it or not
That is because it is leaving the EU that is facilitating the rise of fascism in the UK
If it weren't for the Brexit vote this would not be happening. I note that you don't care to address yourself to the subject of this thread.
Is the OP American Ambassadors "statement" just "tit for tat" sound bites??
Well done, Petra. Brightlingsea. At least you tried! I was living abroad at the time and my father, another 'campaigner' told me all about it.
Is the OP American Ambassadors "statement" just "tit for tat" sound bites??
What do you mean by that, GG13?
Are you doubting that Farage actually said it?
If not, are you suggesting that the reaction, to what Farage said, of horror felt by any sane and reasonable person is just a 'soundbite'?
MaizieD- I was if you like "putting the cat amongst the pigeons".
The whole Boris Johnson, Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, Nigel Farage et al hysteria is at a level that I have never seen-noticed before.
I am not a "Farage Fan Gran" , but I cannot see a clear way out of the political "mess" the UK is in.
I lay the blame 100% at the feet of David Cameron for the referendum and John Major for signing up to the Maastricht Treaty.
We cannot turn the clock back before the referendum, so logically MPs have to negotiate across the political divide and sort out this sorry mess.
Depending on what newspaper/ digital news outlet we get our information from they are so utterly conflicting, there are so many "experts" who have opposing views, how the flip are we the people meant to assimilate it all?
That still doesn't tell me what you meant by your comment. The thread topic is fascism. The comment the US ambassador made was about a fascist suggestion made by Farage. Where do'tit for tat' soundbites come into it?
You Leavers seem to me to be desperately trying to avoid the topic...
I see the word fascist being thrown around a lot in many areas. But isn't it true that fascism is allegedly on the rise in the EU and around the world? I don't think that can be thrown at the Leaver's feet.
MaizieD- if our Ambassadors remarks had not been made public- The American Ambassador would not have voiced his opinion visa vi Nigel Farage.............it is known as political oneupmanship!!!
Thank you for being the voice of reason Minniemoo
And to the poster who was cross about my use of emojis - their use is not meant to be inflammatory. Only friendly. A smiley face shows kindness (I think).
Other emojis can be mean or annoying.
i like nigel farage. forgive me for being patriotic.why should we bow to germany and the rest of europe.? do you know what the first words from germany challoncer (spelt wrong) were on brexit ! " I THOUGHT WE GOT THEM "i dont think so mrs merkell .am fed up with all these european laws. all this health and safety c**p came from europe....and wait for it .not allowed to fish in our own waters.... we were never invited to vote in the the common market back in the 1970's. it was europe that changed our weights and measure to kg and grams .metre's. what was wrong with pounds and ounces /inches and feet. what did we go to war for .? to keep nazi's out of britain. yes merkell cant wait to get her hands on britain. em i dont think so...
The situation I believe is straight forward. The Party that holds the government of Britain is now so profoundly split that an autocratic. Section of that party now dominates all it can do. Those people (known as the ERG Group) care little for democracy and in that would see it's abolishment to achieve their objectives. They and those they dominate, try to hide their disdain for democracy by wording the ending of this nations political freedom as the proroguing of Parliament.
The above is nothing less than the attempted imposition of a fascist regime on the people of Britain, which all must be very aware of, and come together in resistance.
moggie I do believe I have never read such an ignorant rant on GN!
Apologies the above should read "an autocratic section of that party, and not an autocratic. Section of that party
There are, I think, over 400,000 civil servants - are they going to send out questionnaires to them all then sack about 48% of them?
Likewise about 146,000 military personnel? Plus reservists?
Who next - the police?
Some of the above swear an allegiance to the monarch which is worth consideration when advocating a presidential system.
The thought of Farage as President is truly terrifying and not such a far-fetched thought.
