This from an American Ambassador

Farage said that anyone in UK civil service or military who doesn’t believe in Brexit should be removed. My jaw dropped. This is outrageous. It is fascistic to apply a single issue to determine “loyalty” as if we were in a war of religion. Shame on him.

Oh I think there is every intention of there being a United States Of Europe including an EU army. This has already been talked about by various EU Commission people.
We are a great country in or out of the EU.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 14-Jul-19 17:07:31

There is no appetite for a United or federal EU.

But even if it happened 1million to 1 chance - we would in all probability opt out.

As we have done for other stuff.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 14-Jul-19 17:10:39

lemon perhaps you could quote where you get that information. I am thinking if Merkal, Macron, Rutte and others have said.

Who have said otherwise?

GillT57 Sun 14-Jul-19 17:25:28

Oh come on lemon you are better than that. I did not expect, over 3 years later to hear scare mongering and anti EU titttle tattle and fake stories from you. Are you getting so desperate to defend your decision? You'll be quoting EU rules about bendy bananas and telling us that 15million Turks are on their way, all planning on claiming benefits. I always had you in my mind as one of the more rational considered and less 'cult" Brexit voters

Whitewavemark2 Sun 14-Jul-19 17:25:43

It would seem then lemon the “EU Commission people” are those you think have talked about a Federal State. But If you think that, then you are misunderstanding how it all works.

I find that is so true of brexiters, including so many of the dim politicians, including the next PM.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 14-Jul-19 17:29:33

Astounded to hear Hammond declare “in a no deal the EU will control what will happen in Calais” ???????

Whitewavemark2 Sun 14-Jul-19 17:48:24

Of course in our calculation of individual lose in the case of a no deal, or even possibly a deal, we have not included the fact of a recession and the lose experienced by the individual, in this scenario.

Elegran Sun 14-Jul-19 18:01:36

Here is an article about US influences supporting far-right action in Europe. www.nybooks.com/daily/2019/07/10/the-american-dark-money-behind-europes-far-right/

Whitewavemark2 Sun 14-Jul-19 18:12:48

And of course there’s the jobs that will be lost and those already lost. Together with the lose of revenue both from paye and company tax NI etc.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 14-Jul-19 18:35:43

All this was said before the referendum.

Remember the idiots who said it was all project fear? Fools the lot of them.

lemongrove Sun 14-Jul-19 18:40:08

Peeps......it has been talked about within the EU in the last few years, I will look it up.
Now that we are leaving the EU of course, it will make it harder for them to push for it, but it certainly has been an aspiration.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 14-Jul-19 18:46:11

Oh dear lemon I would save yourself the trouble. You are wrong in suggesting that it will happen in the near future. They have no appetite for it.

It has certainly been a subject of discussion, but as far as the U.K. is concerned it has always been an irrelevance as we would opt out.

Simples ?

MaizieD Sun 14-Jul-19 18:53:31

Now that we are leaving the EU of course, it will make it harder for them to push for it

Why would that be, lemon? I thought that our leaving the EU was going to make it easier for them. You seem to be implying that our government was gung ho, full steam ahead, for a United States of Europe...

Anyway,as WWMK2 says, there are few, if any EU member states that have any desire for it. And Cameron had got an opt out for the UK, to be written into treaty.

lemongrove Sun 14-Jul-19 19:14:13

I think, had we stayed in the EU that our government would at some point down the line cave in to the EU’s demands regarding federalism.
Certainly, Italy and Austria and Poland are against it, but they aren’t the strongest EU members.
Merkel and Macron are all for it and happily backed the creation of a ‘real’ EU army in 2018.
Junker takes credit for the idea, but it has been rolling around for a while now.
Ursula der Leyen the German defence minister and now part of the EU commission is on record as wanting a federal state of Europe.
It certainly has been discussed and is not some urban fantasy.Yes, countries would have to agree to it, but if Germany and France want it enough you can well imagine
The arm twisting that will take place, the sweeteners offered to member countries etc until it does happen.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 14-Jul-19 19:16:46

lemon cloud cuckoo land.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 14-Jul-19 19:22:59

lemon you aren’t even correct in you post.

Do buck up.

lemongrove Sun 14-Jul-19 19:23:05

Well, perhaps we shall see in some years time!
At the moment the EU is dismayed by the thought of the lack of our money coming into their coffers and how Brexit will work out for them, so is otherwise engaged.

lemongrove Sun 14-Jul-19 19:24:10

Do buck up? grin
What isn’t correct btw?

GracesGranMK3 Sun 14-Jul-19 19:50:35

I thought my eight year old grandson had a vivid imagination! We get 'I think this'; 'I believe that', all based on no facts and the rest of us are supposed to trot behind changing our lives. Not in my name this country doesn't. You want me to risk all our futures on fairy-tales. I'll keep fighting against the unfounded rubbish we are told.

I notice Gina Miller's legal team have already let Johnson know they will take him to court if he try to prorogue parliament in order to force through a no deal. Thank heavens for the people who believe in this country and the decisions we have made over the last forty odd years.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 14-Jul-19 20:17:58

I see that the UK has been told by the USA to fall into line over China and Huawei or forget a trade deal.

Don’t you just love this taking back control business?

Whitewavemark2 Mon 15-Jul-19 08:00:06

Trump has told some of the women in congress to go back to their own country. These women were born in the USA. They are American citizens. They have been educated, married and have families. They represent their constituents in Congress.

So there you have it ignorance, racism and misogyny from the friend of Farage, Tice, Oakshott Bannon And Banks amongst others. This is what these people truly believe, but are not yet letting you know as they think (rightfully) it is something we would not tolerate. (Well those whose sanity is holding up)

Oh! I forgot to mention another thing about the women, they have a different colour skin to Trump. Wouldn’t be difficult as not many people have an orange skin.

Nandalot Mon 15-Jul-19 08:27:49

Yes, it is almost beyond belief. One of the women was born just 12 miles away from where Trump was born. Apparently he has German ancestry (grandfather born in Germany) and his mother comes from Lewis in Scotland., so immigrant stock. Oh but yes, WW, thanks for pointing that out, they are not orange.

GracesGranMK3 Mon 15-Jul-19 08:32:33

Lemongrove have you looked it up yet as promised? It will be a first so I, for one, can't wait.

GracesGranMK3 Mon 15-Jul-19 08:33:50

I would say trumps comment was unbelievable ... except it isn't, is it.

Urmstongran Mon 15-Jul-19 08:34:54

Yes, the are in their own country. But what Trump was saying was stop lecturing this country on how things should be done and look to the African continent your own parents are from that is full of corruption, before you start on us.

Politicians who hate America have no place in U.S. government!

When you think about it, children of immigrants are often less enamoured of the countries their parents chose for a better life. Perhaps the second generation there look to their parent’s (or grandparents) countries with rose coloured glasses! A bit like those from here whose families came to live in Bradford or Luton (as examples) for a better life and their grandchildren go off to Syria to join ISIL.

You can’t fix ideologically charged mindsets!
