I can imagine we will be horror struck as next week plays out. The cabinet will be a sight to behold.

jura2 Wed 24-Jul-19 15:15:55

well lemon, Labour certainly want one now, so do the Brexit Party - and Boris will have no choice ...

Pantglas1 Wed 24-Jul-19 15:19:24

You obviously do luckygirl because you replied saying so. No one else has yet.....even jura2 cannot bring herself to say so on here, preferring to quote Boris when L@bour did it.

She is merely attempting to muddy the waters. It’s a yes/no answer to my question - none of the usual ‘yes but, no but’ nonsense that infuriates those of us who don’t have left/right bias.

trisher Wed 24-Jul-19 15:28:27

Interesting what people construe from a post which isn't necessarily there and want to debate somethng which was not actually an argument but just speculation for the reasosn people are getting so het up about how Boris got in. You see you can't have vast amounts of publicity for what is after all a few thousand people choosing someone and then complain that others want a say. Democracy doesn't work like that. If you make it news people want to be involved. Personally I think both Hunt and Boris are on a losing streak anyway. This government is clinging to power by pretending it is the country that needs uniting and not their own party. As for the Ulster Unionists they are sitting quietly back because they know the N.Ireland situation is a powder keg and no-one really wants to light the fuse, much better to let the Tories self-destruct and then claim it was nothing to do with you.

Nandalot Wed 24-Jul-19 15:34:02

Thank you Jura, for reminding us of Boris’ words at the changeover from Blair to Brown. It is so typical and hypocritical of him, whatever suits him at the time. Leave/Remain almost on the toss of a coin. How can we trust him?
‘I am feather for each wind that blows’.

lemongrove Wed 24-Jul-19 15:37:00

jura... wanting one ( a GE) doesn’t equate at this point to getting one.

jura2 Wed 24-Jul-19 15:42:53

the situation as it is now.

lemon, Johnson will have no choice but to ask for one himself- and sooner than we think. He will NOT get a better Deal, he will have NO solution the Irish Border, and he won't be allowed to go for a disastrous No Deal or proroguing Parliament - so what then?

Firecracker123 Wed 24-Jul-19 15:45:38

If there was a general election I personally think Labour and the Lib Dems standing on remain would be wiped out. The Conservatives and The Brexit Party would win hands down.

lemongrove Wed 24-Jul-19 15:47:11

jura....a week in politics is a long time.?

GrannyGravy13 Wed 24-Jul-19 15:48:57

Boris has just left Buckingham Palace..... he is the Prime Minister.

I wish him well and hope he is successful.

jura2 Wed 24-Jul-19 15:50:08

it would be very very divisive and dangerous times, for sure - for all. But I do believe that the great majority of Conservatives would not ally themselves to fascism and racism, and that the vas majority of the country will see it as it is, and the massive risks to the country of No Deal, to industry and agriculture, the NHS, and a lot more - and rise and unite against it. I hope - I truly do.

trisher Wed 24-Jul-19 15:53:04

Could you define "successful" GrannyGravy13 it could mean an awful lot of things. For Boris and his rich mates a No-deal Brexit would probably pay huge dividends in financial speculation, so he'd think that success.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 24-Jul-19 15:58:28

I am watching Boris speak outside No.10 and if he can manage only half of what he is pledging a lot of people will be happy.

First job is to recruit 20,000 new police.

Increase funding to NHS

Stop people having to sell family home to fund their care.

Guarantee to EU nationals that they have certainty of remaining in U.K.

Elegran Wed 24-Jul-19 16:12:13

I didn't see the speech, butI would be interested to hear what he didn't say, like how will each of these promises be funded?

Higher taxes for those who make stand to make a massive profit out of Brexit? It is only fair that their gains are ploughed back into the country.

Jura/trisher et al

Raising the Boris Johnson comments re the Labour Party doing the exact same thing as the Conservative Party now is a very fair point to make. I am being honest I may have voiced an opinion at the time of the Blair/Brown Prime Minister exchange but I accepted through understanding the facts it was perfectly acceptable.

My point however is proven by the Johnson comment because I am not interested in the ' who /which political party ' is game playing, unlike the posts who regurgitate the % of those eligible to vote for 'their' party Leader/shout undemocratic etc. .

It is hypocrisy to call foul play / complain /say it is undemocratic/ complain about the numbers when a perfectly democratic process takes place.

I repeat my opinion:-

The fact is ' Democracy ' and ' Established Procedures ' are only ' acceptable ', only suit ' some ' individuals if and when the outcome fits their politics but they cry shouts of Undemocratic / disgraceful when the outcome does not. It is also used for propaganda, spin but for the most part it is hypocrisy!

jura2 Wed 24-Jul-19 17:07:35

My point exactly - hypocrisy at its worst- from Boris who complained so bitterly at the time Blair was replaced by Brown. Thanks.

As Luckygirl says, the system is wrong. It was wrong then, and it is wrong now- for sure. But perhaps 'wronger' now as we are in such a dire and dangerous situation- in so many ways.

POGS Wed 24-Jul-19 17:14:03

Jura

Also hypocrisy on behalf of those who are doing the exact same over the May/Johnson situation.!

Pantglas1 Wed 24-Jul-19 17:26:44

That was like drawing hen’s teeth POGS .... well done!

trisher Wed 24-Jul-19 17:31:16

POGS I do wish you could stop preaching at us all. Most of us understand the process as it stands but debating requires that you look at what has and is happening rather than simply stating what has happened, and there is no doubt that there are more people upset by this appointment than would be usual. Perhaps some of them don't understand the process, but I think most of them do. Understanding something doesn't mean you have to agree with it and democracy most of all requires a process of change. Otherwise we would still be stuck with rotten boroughs

Well trisher those proporting to understand ' the process' are showing the exact opposite in their posts do they not!

If anybody ' understands' the process why waste their ruddy time mentioning points that are nothing to do with understanding the process but simply posting points that are nothing short of spinning their supposed knowledge in the opposite direction to politically try and point score.

If those who understand and accept nothing unusual has taken place had not produced posts to the contrary then nobody would need to challenge, or as you pitely put it ' preach' would they.

varian Wed 24-Jul-19 17:54:02

I am SO disappointed that Chris Grayling is not to be made brexit minister. He would definitely have been my choice - and I'm sure I speak for everyone who wants to Stop Brexit.

Nandalot Wed 24-Jul-19 17:57:16

Varian, grin .

varian Wed 24-Jul-19 18:01:16

Firecracker123 Wed 24-Jul-19 18:03:21
