I can imagine we will be horror struck as next week plays out. The cabinet will be a sight to behold.

lemongrove Wed 24-Jul-19 21:47:20

Of course I do, although maybe I shouldn’t,in some cases.

Whitewavemark2
You mention Trump in relation to GM food.
I would point out that the eu have a trade deal with Canada, Brazil and Argentina. All 3 in the top 10 of GM crop producing countries.
Have you ever eaten Spanish Salami? If yes, you have inadvertently eaten a GM crop as Spain grows GM maize for animal feed.

Day 6 wealth and money don't really upset me people who profit from situations that cause distress and hardship for the weakest and poorest do. And if you don't realise that there are vast amounts of money to be made speculating on a ruined economy and a falling pound you really don't know what goes on. I'm sure Boris and the ERG know exactly what they will be doing in the event of a no-deal Brexit and it won't benefit any of us.

growstuff Wed 24-Jul-19 22:02:13

How does eating a GM crop make the pigs GM?

Urmstongran Wed 24-Jul-19 22:07:07

Mogg rumoured to become Leader of the House. Bercow may as well retire right now.
?

growstuff Wed 24-Jul-19 22:15:15

Bercow has nothing to fear from Rees-Mogg.

Urmstongran Wed 24-Jul-19 22:38:20

The world is a far better place than when we all woke up this morning.

In my opinion.

Nico97 Wed 24-Jul-19 22:45:25

JRM confirmed as Leader of the House smile

jura2 Wed 24-Jul-19 22:50:13

oh FFS sad

Urmstongran, we don't just live in different countries- but truly on another planet altogether for sure.

Callistemon Wed 24-Jul-19 23:38:59

There is not a universal ban on GM food in the EU and in fact the situation is confusing. Spain is the main producer of GM crops - if GM maize is produced in the EU and fed to animals which are then used to produce food for humans, is that acceptable to you, then, growstuff?

Whitewavemark2 Thu 25-Jul-19 05:01:48

It is probably time to consider Brexit proofing your share portfolio.

If Johnson’s plans come to fruition, and it is clear that the ERG are running the show, then undoubtedly sterling will get a real battering, and spare cash knocking around would be more usefully placed in non- sterling assets.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 25-Jul-19 05:06:44

Anyone seen the photoshop of Johnson in the Guardian?
??that is so bad.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 25-Jul-19 05:07:41

Of course that should have read The Telegraph ??????

Despite all the flakey optimism from those who support Fromage one minute, then Johnson the next, he has alienated many in his own party by cramming the cabinet full of people he knows will make him look more competent than he actually is, and with a working majority of about 1, will be hard pushed to do much before a general election. He may go for an early election hoping for a win before the honeymoon popularly is over, but May tried that. Otherwise, he has three weeks to form a Brexit plan, get it through cabinet, get it past the Eu, get all the legislation drawn up, and put to a parliamentary vote for early October. Is that going to happen?

MaizieD Thu 25-Jul-19 10:04:30

cramming the cabinet full of people he knows will make him look more competent than he actually is,

Nice summary of the new cabinet postings; courtesy of twitter

Start
Prime Minister : the one who lied about everything

Chancellor : the one whose immigration policy would exclude his dad

Foreign : the one who hadn’t realised we are surrounded by water

Home : the one who had to resign for abusing her power

Defence : the one who was sacked for leaking state secrets

Health : the one who burnt what principles they had for the job

DWP : the other one who burnt what principles they had for the job

Brexit : the one who failed in the job last time

Environment : the one who hates the environment but loves fracking

Special Adviser: the one found guilty of contempt of Parliament and of cheating in the referendum

End

What fun grin

maddyone Thu 25-Jul-19 10:07:15

The remainers are cross.

Luckygirl Thu 25-Jul-19 10:09:49

I thought leader of the house was voted in by parliament - it looks as though I have got this wrong.

Won't Jacob just love throwing his weight around! When he realised he was up for this the first thing he said was how he had always supported Boris, as though he was just getting his reward.

MaizieD Thu 25-Jul-19 10:11:34

Of course we are, maddy. And so will you be when Brexit goes belly up.

Until then, just keep your fingers in your ears and shout 'la la la'.

growstuff Thu 25-Jul-19 10:18:05

Callistemon, I assume you know what GM crops actually are. How does eating a GM crop turn whatever has eaten it GM? It's not like some kind of virus.

growstuff Thu 25-Jul-19 10:20:06

crystaltipps, Johnson will have to go for an election, because he won't get Parliament to accept No Deal. The numbers just don't add up. That's why he's brought in Dominic Cummings as a strategy consultant.

jura2 Thu 25-Jul-19 10:20:33

Thanks Maizie - how about a description for the Rees-Mogg and his new position. Care to have a go ?

GracesGranMK3 Thu 25-Jul-19 10:59:01

Brexit Party in all but name but who exactly voted them in?

MaizieD Thu 25-Jul-19 11:14:23

JRM : the one who wants no deal Brexit but made sure his money was safe first. And who doesn't understand GATT 24.

Shoequeen53 Thu 25-Jul-19 11:18:31

Leader of the House - the one who thinks it’s still 1819

Whitewavemark2 Thu 25-Jul-19 11:39:46

It isn’t just the remainers on this forum who are so alarmed and worried millions of people in the UK are absolutely incredulous at the Tories voting in an individual who was rejected as being utterly unfit for leader on more than one occasion

Quote from John Crace

“Johnson - a man who has made a career out of disloyalty is notoriously thin-skinned when anyone dares even gently challenge him. No one comes close to him for holding grudges. Jeremy Hunt would finds a horses head in his bed and dozens of others would be publicly knee-capped. Out would go anyone with any semblance of self-respect and decency. In would come a cabinet shaped in his own image. A cabinet of shits, charlatans and shysters. One in which having been previously sacked for lying almost as a pre-condition.”
