I can imagine we will be horror struck as next week plays out. The cabinet will be a sight to behold.

lemon I was referring to one specific poster who clearly felt that she had to justify her own position.
A few days ago I was up to speed with this thread but had to skim read the last couple of pages so I ask again if you'd please point out one or two particularly vitriolic posts (which I must have missed).

Whitewavemark2 Tue 23-Jul-19 11:12:33

? and lemon are old partners mcem

Yes respected, that's a good word for dragonfly.

You can sugar coat your message and add little smiley faces but we can see past that sort of nonsense.

Anne Milton has resigned from her job as Minister for Skills and Apprenticeships.

I don't know how soon Boris Johnson will meet the negotiators in the EU but I do think he needs to polish his speech before meeetings take place. He really must be more coherent, avoid silly jokes and certainly be prepared; ad-libbing won't do. Taking his hands out of his pockets would also help. Not sure how well he speaks French/German. If he believes that he will be able to sell an improved deal to the EU perhaps he should consider the wise words of Willy Brandt: ”If I’m selling to you, I speak your language. If I’m buying, you have to speak my language”.

Jabberwok Tue 23-Jul-19 11:26:32

That's just it Elegran! Parliament DID agree the terms of the referendum , they DID agree to honour the result, they DID sign up to article 50, and the two main parties DID go into a GE on the back of delivering Brexit . How much clearer does that have to be ? What's there not to understand?!!
I think we need to ask ourselves why Iran arrested this poor lady in the first place and perhaps condemn THEM for this aappalling cruel treatment! I don't honestly think whatever anyone did or didn't say would have made any difference , my guess is she would still be there, as will the crew of the hijacked tanker, until Iran is good and ready to release them, and sadly that won't be anytime soon!

GracesGranMK3 Tue 23-Jul-19 11:46:34

... and they can change their mind as circumstances change Jabberwok. Why do you think that in this one instance they can't?

crystaltipps Tue 23-Jul-19 11:55:48

Trouble is the referendum and GE promises are undeliverable without division and damage to the U.K. which is why this whole process has been so tortuous and why remainers won’t just go away as Matthew Parris has written in a great article in The Spectator.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 23-Jul-19 12:12:00

God he sounds like a teenager.

HootyMcOwlface Tue 23-Jul-19 12:15:52

Are you daunted, you don’t look daunted!

Well I feel daunted all right. As well as deeply embarrassed to have such a person as our county’s PM. God help us all.

Fennel Tue 23-Jul-19 12:16:50

I just watched the whole spectacle but didn't put the sound on.
I would think you're right WW2.

GracesGranMK3 Tue 23-Jul-19 12:18:38

David Gauke resigned (as he said he would).

Whitewavemark2 Tue 23-Jul-19 12:25:54

92000 people in this country think having a prime minister who is a liar, racist, cheat and lazy incompetent is just what we need.

mcem Tue 23-Jul-19 12:32:43

Let's take comfort in the fact that the 92000 people are far from typical!

GillT57 Tue 23-Jul-19 12:33:27

Truly depressing spectacle of Johnson the liar making his promises.

Anne Milton resigns: Tory minister quits over fears about Boris Johnson pursuing no-deal Brexit

dragonfly46 Tue 23-Jul-19 12:36:16

Putin is laughing all the way to his nuclear weapons! He managed to manipulate the US elections and I believe that he also has a hand in the fact that we have a buffoon for PM. It isn't Brexit that has made us the laughing stock of the world but the way we are handling it.

I really cannot see us being able to move forward either in or out of Europe with such a leader. So we have a GE and what will that get us? It can only be hoped the far right - Farage - do not get a handle on our politics.
We all need representation not just the far right.

Minniemoo Tue 23-Jul-19 12:36:42

I rather like Boris. The internet has made politics unpalatable. Maybe it was before but we just got on with things. I'm sure that all of us have lived with a PM we hadn't wanted. But you just get on with it. At least it's done with. Now we will see what happens next. In every minute detail. The one strange thing I have noticed amongst people in my circle. Many left wingers will demand they remove themselves from their friends list if they voted Conservative. You don't see that coming from right wingers. People are actually afraid to say they vote Conservative because of the vitriol that gets aimed at them. We have Boris. I for one am pleased. So shoot me down all you like.

Lessismore Tue 23-Jul-19 12:47:22

Please tell us what you like about him?

mcem Tue 23-Jul-19 12:47:50

It's today's politicians that have made politics unpalateable!
What do you mean by "demand they remove themselves from their friends list"???

dragonfly46 Tue 23-Jul-19 12:53:30

You may find this strange but I have been right wing all my life and voted Conservative. I feel privileged and extremely lucky but having lived in Europe for a number of years I am horrified at cutting all ties with the European Union. We really had our cake and ate it there. We were not part of the euro, not part of Schengen but we did have a vote in the European parliament. We were given privileges others members did not get and we made our own laws despite what people may think. Are we really giving all that up so we can kick out our European workers and retain 'our Sovereignty' whatever that means?

My British friends who live in Europe feel abandoned. I think it is sad that it is not going to be as easy for my children as it was for us to live there and move between countries.

I think it is sad that one referendum has caused so much bad feeling and unease in the country and stirred up emotions which were not there before.

We shall now just have to wait and see what happens.

Minniemoo Tue 23-Jul-19 12:53:52

I have liked him for years. I never dreamt he'd be PM but I was wrong. He is amusing, he has passion. He's got a personality. He is certainly not a bumbling buffoon. He was hugely successful as Mayor of London which is renowned for being left leaning. I think we're allowed to like who we like. Not everyone likes him and that is perfectly fine with me. And if my FB friends are outraged, I will allow them their outrage. That's what life is all about.

GracesGranMK3 Tue 23-Jul-19 13:06:53

Dragonfly, you may feel this article by Matthew Parris ring a bell with your thinking.

blogs.spectator.co.uk/2019/07/we-remainers-arent-going-away/

Whitewavemark2 Tue 23-Jul-19 13:06:54

How the hell did the U.K. manage to vote in the worse possible candidate.

GracesGranMK3 Tue 23-Jul-19 13:07:51

It's probably the least aggressive but most purposeful article on remaining remainers I have read.
