I know we knew this would happen but it didn't stop my heart sinking when it was confirmed. It's not even about party politics. It's about him. The country is in such a terrible position and the thought of him being the one trying to solve all the problems is farcical at best and utterly depressing.

Thank you Tilly, and don't worry about me- my personal situation or feelings are totally irrelevant in this very serious and dangerous state of affairs- but I do appreciate your support.

jura.....nobody knows what will happen.
A GE could usher in Corbyn and the UK’s first Marxist government ( what a prospect!) but equally, as Johnson is so popular, then it’s quite on the cards he coukd win with an increased majority.

Firecracker123 Wed 24-Jul-19 15:48:37

Tillybelle what a nasty patronising post says a lot about you.

Gonegirl Wed 24-Jul-19 15:51:29

'Scuseme?!!! Why have I been mentioned. And I had a perfectly good education, thank you. Went to a girls' boarding school as a day girl. Excellent. (Although I might not have made the most of it)

confused

Gonegirl Wed 24-Jul-19 15:52:38

Im 77. 78 in September. Not that that's anything to do with anyone on here. hmm

Gonegirl Wed 24-Jul-19 15:55:32

Tillybelle not very polite to post about gonegirl in the way you have.

Lessismore Wed 24-Jul-19 16:00:48

Tilly is a 23 year old who has migrated from mumsnet.

Callistemon Wed 24-Jul-19 16:00:51

I think you're mixing Gonegirl up with someone else Tillybelle!

And she's never come across as not having much education shock

Nanniejc1 Wed 24-Jul-19 16:01:46

Just listening to Boris’s brilliant uplifting speech outside 10 Downing Street.Well done Boris it’s time our country moved in a more positive direction!!!!

GrannyGravy13 Wed 24-Jul-19 16:03:24

I am listening also Nanniejcl, extremely uplifting and positive.

it is- until you begin to think about the reality ...

the amazing progress in research, for instance - are all linked to being full partners of other EU Universities and the full and free exchange of the best academics and brains - funded directly by EU- just as one example.

lemongrove Wed 24-Jul-19 16:08:41

Yes, I was surprised, it was a very good speech, his hair looked brushed and there was no sniff of buffoonery.
However.....the hard work is now to come.

sharon103 Wed 24-Jul-19 16:08:46

Well, I like Boris grin but will be voting for Nigel Farage if he stands in the next election.
Ouch! ......... That hurt. lol

Callistemon Wed 24-Jul-19 16:09:30

Margaux a very sensible post.

There seems to be some very strong, almost irrational, views being expressed on here.
I am sure HM will deal with Boris as she has dealt with all her 14, soon to be 15, Prime Ministers over the long years of her reign and I am sure he will respect her views.

aggie Wed 24-Jul-19 16:10:04

He did go on in his usual pompous manner , all promises , no word of how these miracles can be accomplished

POGS Wed 24-Jul-19 16:10:48

I find something intriguing.

Posters are worried about a ' NO DEAL ' outcome, that is upto every individual to have a thought over and should be allowed to express their opinion also. Name calling and the feeling of holding a superior intellect by ' either side' are not worthy of debate.

Boris Johnson, unlike the Labour Party/ opposition benches and some of his own party finally ' VOTED FOR ' the EU/UK Withdrawal Agreement

There are various reasons why the UK ' might ' leave the EU with NO DEAL and the irony is the likes of Johnson who finally voted for the Withdrawal Agreement cannot be said to have tried to get a deal with the EU.

Those politicians who have thwarted the EU / UK Agreement may see the the UK simply runs out of time because the EU/UK Withdrawal Agreement did not pass through Parliament because of those MP's, unlike Johnson, who voted for the Withdrawal Agreement, voted it down. The EU may also be see no point to pursuing the Withdrawal Agreement and that will be the result of those MP's voting it down hoping to overturn the EU Referendum Result and that has been their position since the EU Referendum went against their will.

Callistemon Wed 24-Jul-19 16:13:47

The Johnson topic needs to be revisited in six months
Ooh, yes please lemongrove - can we have a moratorium until the New Year?

(Chance would be a fine thing)

lemongrove Wed 24-Jul-19 16:17:49

Well, grin I just ‘put it out there’ to see if anyone would bite Callistemon but actually, yes, it would be nice, then there would be no need for all the balls (crystal ones of course.)?

GillT57 Wed 24-Jul-19 16:38:25

sharon103. Farage has had seven unsuccessful attempts so far, don't hold your breath. Johnson can certainly blast out an inspiring speech and it would be wonderful if it could all be delivered. Presumably we will get a reality check soon.

Lessismore Wed 24-Jul-19 16:44:12

How can you vote for NF.....ie what are the mechanics of it ?

Nanniejc1 Wed 24-Jul-19 16:51:57

Let’s hope for all our sakes that Boris delivers.........our NHS,Social Care,Education & everything else that effects ordinary people needs a boost ......our country needs a boost too,we are all fed up with the doom ,gloom & scaremongering.......We all have a right to our own views & I wish Boris well.
