The Palace is refusing to comment merlot - which roughly translates as 'a plane of some sort - private, probably'.
Why doesn't Starmer hold another referendum?

Isn't it marvellous that Prince Harry has sought to share his thoughts on climate change, by giving a "barefoot speech" No me neither
in front of a load of grandstanding c'lebs worthy and notable high profile people in Sicily. As a lesser mortal I'm so grateful that these up their own backside individuals, amazingly aware and magnanimous folk are there to give us guidance on looking after our planet. I'm just wondering about the 114 private jets parked up on a runway somewhere in though Sicily
Oh never mind minor detail!

How about the great minds stayed at home and no discussion was had, stimulated or otherwise. Where's Andrew Neal when you need him
I'm sure if he were to address these dickhead dilettantes concerned and green aware VIPs, he might suggest that if they wish to be taken seriously they ought to just stay where they are instead of flitting about the world prattling on about climate change because WE ALL KNOW now, flying is a great pollutant. As one of those spearheading Extinction Rebellion's London demos informed us, all air travel should only be used in emergencies, as per his own trips shown on his Instagram, Maldives, skiing , essential stuff like that. I bet not one of the attendees at that conference made the wonderful deferential aside "if I could fly clean I would" that Emma magnanimously informed she would do, if she could, but sadly she can't
Bah! to the lot of them. Go back to where you came from and write a 100 lines, or today's equivalent of that, plant a 100 trees!
If they are all so worried about climate change, why couldn’t they have a “video conference”?
Same question to Greta Thunberg(sp)?
It's all about influencing - getting your brand known and your profile up, which in turn generates money and sales. It's a whole different world.
Oh, don't start knocking Greta Thunberg. She has done a lot to bring the state of the earth to people's attention. There is no way you can fault her. She is in a totally different category to these glory seeking celebs.
Quoting myself: There is no way you can fault her
Oh yes. Of course you can. This is Gransnet.
How did Harry get there? Was it a scheduled flight?
Apparently when asked, the palace refused to comment, so I would take that as a "no" then
It could be that we are being unfair here. These people just might care about the environment. I guess being celebs doesn't necessarily rule tjhem out from that.
And enough good might come out of the conference overall to counteract the harm done by the private jets in this instance.
Perhaps we don't know enough about the whole thing.
I think Prince Harry is a shallow, easily influenced weak man, pulled from one situation to another, which is so reminisant of the late Duke of Windsor! Under army influence it brought out the best in him, under his wife it's a disaster!! Only having two children to help save the planet! Goodness how self sacrificing is that!! Most of us only have two children for a variety of reasons! Most of us don't draw attention to what is a personal choice, still less use it as a way of currying popularity! Obviously losing his mother at an early age was an enormous tragedy, but lots of young people lose one or both parents at the same sort of age, and lets face it Prince Harry had every financial benefit that money could buy as well as a supportive father, grandparents and other family members, something that some other youngsters could only dream of! So while we are all very sorry, self pity from this very privileged man has at times become a bit tedious!
I agree about the self pity jabberwok.
It could be that we are being unfair here
I don't think so.
These people just might care about the environment
Of course they possibly care as long as their life-style is not affected - it's just for the plebs, the little people, ie us, to change the way we live.
They keep telling us what to do and I expect they're fed up with people asking why they don't take their own advice.
Who will be influenced on how many children to have by Harry ?
Stella MaCartney has 4.
I think his father could have been of the same ilk but the no-nonsense Camilla has done wonders for him.
I think Greta Thunberg feels passionately about environmental issues and has done a huge amount of good work. Unfortunately, I think she's now being used as a commodity by people who want to create a brand from and around her - that's obviously not her fault, but there are a lot of people now jumping on that particular bandwagon (the Casiraghis aren't exactly known for their eco lifestyles, for example)
I suppose all we can hope for is that these influencers raise awareness of the issues and back it up with the science, but while we've got Govts across the world ignoring these messages to protect business then it will be many years before we see any real change. Doesn't mean we shouldn't keep chipping away, but I don't think this sleb event should be hailed as anything more than an indulgent jolly.
Charles would not have done the same, he has spoken out for years , called a crank .
No way would Charles have attended this ego feast.
William is keeping his head down - having just flown to Mustique and back for a two week holiday with the Middleton clan.
You could argue they all went on the same plane (at least I think they did)
Many families go abroad for a holiday.
They do, but that tends to be the one annual holiday. The RF's carbon footprint must be well in excess of the average family's - although I appreciate William isn't giving barefoot speeches
M is an "older" mum so lets face it she isnt that likely to carry a 3rd child. Especially if she wants any sort of space between pregnancies.
So its a bit of a hollow "sacrifice" really. Bit like me saying I wont take any private rocket ship flights... when they are unlikely to be on offer to me anyway..
Or giving up a food you dont like for leng
Lent
but there are a lot of people now jumping on that particular bandwagon (the Casiraghis aren't exactly known for their eco lifestyles, for example
But whats the point in converting the converted? Change will only happen when people with BAD track record get on board! But they are villanised for their past if they do! Seems the press only allows you to commit to change if it isnt really a change for you and you have been doing it since forever....
H&M however are NOT commiting to change by preeching about having less babies while admitting to planning another baby!!
Given her age the prospects of having more than 2 children are probably not good even if they wanted to. I'm not sure why he didn't keep the 2 children issue to himself bearing in mind it comes across as a criticism of his brother, who has 3 now and is said to want more.
Regarding babies, some people (like me) only had one so that leaves room for others to have more surely.
We keep hearing that Britain has a labour shortage (why immigration was deemed a good thing) so having larger families could be seen as beneficial to us all?
Notanan2 - not at all. What I meant was that people are jumping on the eco bandwagon without actually converting and making any real changes to their (wealthy) lifestyles, but doing a lot of virtue signalling instead
