Isn't it marvellous that Prince Harry has sought to share his thoughts on climate change, by giving a "barefoot speech" No me neither confused in front of a load of grandstanding c'lebs worthy and notable high profile people in Sicily. As a lesser mortal I'm so grateful that these up their own backside individuals, amazingly aware and magnanimous folk are there to give us guidance on looking after our planet. I'm just wondering about the 114 private jets parked up on a runway somewhere in though Sicily shock Oh never mind minor detail!

Who are the Casiraghis?

SirChenjin Thu 01-Aug-19 19:06:09

RF of Monaco

SirChenjin Thu 01-Aug-19 19:08:51

As in Caroline of the RFs son

Charles has been preaching an eco message for years the difference is he talks to people with more than half a brain. Harry talks to gilded celebs half of whom pitched up for the photo opportunities. I mean Noel Gallagher, Sacha Baron Cohen? And Bono goes to the opening of any envelope.

Anniebach Thu 01-Aug-19 19:21:30

There was a programme on BBC Wales recently about Charles being P of Wales for 50 years . They showed a film of him expressing concerns about plastic, he was in his late 20’s

Callistemon Thu 01-Aug-19 19:36:44

Yes, I think he does have genuine concerns. The trouble is, when he expresses an opinion he is criticised.

Charles, not his star-struck son.

Anniebach Thu 01-Aug-19 19:42:54

I think he is a good man , not perfect who is. But the flack and mockery he has endured and never gone public in an attempt to defend himself

Barmeyoldbat Thu 01-Aug-19 19:47:20

The climate change conference is a lovely idea spoilt by the celebs and Harry.

Callistemon Thu 01-Aug-19 19:54:01

It's a Google conference, organised by the internet giant, you know, one of those that avoids paying tax which could help governments solve environmental problems.

They choose a topic each year; it's very secretive and only certain celebs are invited.

Did Obama refuse to go or not? It's not very clear. I do hope that he refused to be part of this ostentatious, self-congratulatory shindig.

SirChenjin Thu 01-Aug-19 20:01:18

If you believe the papers Obama was invited but didn’t show

SueDonim Thu 01-Aug-19 20:53:54

I have been away in a remote area and have missed most of the news including about this conference.

I did however see a very funny reference to Prince Harry about his Vogue interview, calling him Harryward The Woke. grin

merlotgran Thu 01-Aug-19 20:57:20

I love that. grin

notanan2 Thu 01-Aug-19 20:57:36

The carbon footprint of the likes of google is HUGE.

Charles was an environmentalist long before everyone thought they were. Di was a manipulative piece of work who portrayed herself as the only "caring" royal when the caneras were rolling and was hell bent on discrediting and making a mockery of Charles in every way she could...

.... none the less Charles always did a lot of low profile low "glam/glory" work on the topic and is actually IMO one of the most principled royals.

notanan2 Thu 01-Aug-19 20:58:18

Harry takes after his mother not his father.

That is not a compliment.

varian Thu 01-Aug-19 21:06:12

Could all these owners of private jets and luxury yachts not made the same point more effectively by staying at home?

Anniebach Thu 01-Aug-19 21:27:20

I agree notanan

Gonegirl Thu 01-Aug-19 21:31:01

But they wouldn't have got their luxury seaside jolly then varian, would they?

Gonegirl Thu 01-Aug-19 21:32:43

I love the "Harryward the Woke" too. Hope it catches on. And gets back to him.

What else can we say really ?

Callistemon Thu 01-Aug-19 22:54:59

varian and miss out on a freebie, being driven round in Maseratis? Presumably they have all had to take 'their people' with them too, from security to hairdressers, advisers to gofers.

SirChenjin Fri 02-Aug-19 13:55:40

Harryward the Woke

My brain is clearly not functioning very well today...what's the Harryward reference?

merlotgran Fri 02-Aug-19 14:35:30

A piss take, SirChenjin. Hereward the Wake?

SirChenjin Fri 02-Aug-19 15:50:48

Ahhh... got it now, thanks smile

Callistemon Fri 02-Aug-19 18:10:34
