Cummings game plan seems to be on course.

The tiny majority will be rendered a minority at a stroke by Cummings threat to take the whip away from any Tory rebels.

Johnson has then scapegoats to blame for his failure to deliver a brexit deal, and an excuse to go for a GE.

Labour will then fall in with the game plan by holding a VONC and a GE looks a distinct possibility sometime in Oct.
Johnson will fight it as the people v the elite who failed to deliver the democratic vote. (Bannon writ large)

The U.K. will then crash out on Nov 1st. No attempt is being made by Cummings to get a deal and in any case his contact finishes on Oct 31st.

Blimey; talk about 'a week is a long time in politics ' but it's now .blink and you'll miss it'. Isn't she in a marginal seat as well?

Iam64 Sat 07-Sept-19 21:29:50

Yes she has a tiny majority. Nicky Morgan next ?

growstuff Sat 07-Sept-19 21:32:10

Yes, she is. 346 majority with Labour second and nobody else anywhere near.

growstuff Sat 07-Sept-19 21:45:03

Labour/LibDem/SNP/Plaid have more seats than Conservative/DUP. That's not including the Independents (mainly Conservative rebels) and Independent Group for Change.

Labour is effectively in the most powerful position. If the party supports no No Deal, it will win and Johnson is paralysed.

Johnson needs to do something illegal or find a way to force an election. I'm not sure what happens if he resigns - whether a GE is triggered or whether the Queen has to ask Corbyn to form a government.

growstuff. Once we leave the EU we will no longer be able to draw on funds for research limited to EU members only. Other funds allow one or two non-EU participants, but we will be in competition with other countries from all over the world to be such a participant.

We will also be excluded from EU-wide collaborative bodies, who meet and discuss research agendas and programmes in other EU countries. DS is on a number of those.

On Erasmus, I admit things are not as clear, but are not hopeful www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-47293927

My son had hoped to do an Erasmus exchange but has been told by his uni that new applications aren't being accepted.

Be afraid, be very afraid

Told that Dominic Cummings told a meeting on Friday that the people who are cross about his tactics “will melt” when they learn of what he has planned in coming weeks.

We’re in the foothills of the chaos.

#JacobReesMogg “huge personal windfall” after #Brexit
His Dublin based Somerset Capital has taken a massive 'short position' on the pound hitting rock bottom following the planned #NoDealBrexit

Another web

Arron Banks

You are soaring in the polls dopey. +13% and Brexit party strong. I have a feeling @Nigel_Farage could be strolling through the front door of number 10, in the next few weeks

It is not my expectation that Parliament will remain suspended for the rest of September and the first half of October. It may well be unsuspended on Wednesday. But if it does, MPs must use the time to draft a further Bill which can be introduced when Parliament re-sits.
If Parliament is serious about stopping No Deal, it must address the scenario where the EU refuses an extension. Legislation to address it might comprise an automatic revocation - there being no other alternative - unless a motion to 'No Deal' passed both Houses of Parliament.
The Rebel Alliance doesn't need a Prime Minister. If there is legislation which commands a majority in the House of Commons they can force it through anyway. It's time for them to turn their attention to that.

Some information on proposed legislation to stop no deal.

Will Boris Johnson resign as PM but remain Conservative leader? Is that even possible? Would the commons then name an older states person, respected by all sides as temporary PM over a government of national unity.
Who knows.
One thing that would help imo, is for Dominic Cummings to be banished. There are so many comments from unnamed sources about him pulling the strings, often advising the PM to do things even he doesn't want to do. If that's the case, not very strong leadership is it.
The lates polls put the Conservatives 10 points ahead of Labour though.

WW2...I'm not afraid. Bring it on!

Labaik Sun 08-Sept-19 20:16:56

I don't think you've responded to my reply about 'the bus' have you? I'd like to know what you think about it...

Whitewavemark2 Sun 08-Sept-19 20:22:59

It is rumoured that Cummings has overruled Johnson twice this week. He is clearly running the show.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 08-Sept-19 20:26:40

I think that what is becoming clear, that Cummings has decided that the one nation, moderate Tories are not welcome, and the Tory party is in effect becoming the Brexit party. I wonder if 5he moderates will be able to form their own party as I would imagine that there would be enough money following them. Business does not like extremes.

jura2 Sun 08-Sept-19 20:27:45

EnglishRose - I am speechless- how can anyone wish this on the country, our children and grandchildren? Did you live through the war?

Drum1234 Sun 08-Sept-19 20:32:39

Totally agree jura, that is a despicable comment from EnglishRose.

Urmstongran Sun 08-Sept-19 20:32:55

Business likes clarity though. Boris as leader is providing that.

This moment, post referendum, was always going to arrive. It’s the fork in the road.

Boris is very popular (in the polls, though not so much here) and he picked his Brexit Cabinet to deliver the result of the referendum and ‘get this done’.

jura2 Sun 08-Sept-19 20:37:17

So will you support him in progoguing our Sovereign Parliament and in breaking the Law? And that in the name of our Sovereign Democracy and getting our own Laws back?

Did you watch Andrew Marr this morning

Labaik Sun 08-Sept-19 20:51:30

I'm wondering how many people will remain in his Brexit cabinet. The S.O. said, on hearing that Amber Rudd had resigned 'they're spacing out their resignations so it stays newsworthy and has a greater effect'. I didn't believe him but it said as much on the news tonight. The people that will remain; Pritti Patel being one of them, are vile creatures.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 08-Sept-19 20:53:50

One of big problems I’m reading is that our unwritten constitution cannot deal adequately with a government that breaks the law or convention.

I guess that is why we will need to constantly refer to the courts. When this is all over and Cummings etc have been put back into their boxes, I think it must be reconsidered with some urgency. Our democratic processes cannot be imperilled again.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 08-Sept-19 20:59:55

I reckon Cummings is a Russian plant as he is well known to be a really keen on all things Russian, and worked and lived there for a few years.

He’s a sleeper they have woken to wreck destruction.

Urmstongran Sun 08-Sept-19 21:17:48

jura2 you sound more British than the British!

lemongrove Sun 08-Sept-19 21:24:31

For heaven’s sake! hmm
EnglishRose was referring to WWM2 and not the last war.
