So today is the 19th and a deal has not been agreed

That letter according to the law must be written today

and Johnson said he won't.

He will write the letter or he will be in contempt.

Another set back when will this all end? I have crossed OL off my Xmas Card list.

I know many of you will not agree with me and that is your prerogative. I am not prepared to justify myself to anyone. I voted to Leave and here we are 3 years later in this horrible mess.

Yes, I remember an EU member speaking the other day about their hopes this new deal would be passed. When a TV reporter said it still had to get through Parliament, he replied "Ah yes, your Parliament" and then he shrugged as if to say 'what a shambles'.

Sorry, I can't remember which one it was.

Very funny today when Jo Swinson's nomination for a caretaker Remain Prime Minister, Ken Clarke, stood up say that he he would be voting for Boris' deal.

Johnson did not say he would not send the letter he said he would not "negotiate an extension". If he doesn't the court can send it. There are a few people who could sign it; it doesn't have to be Johnson.

If he tries to frustrate the law he will be in court pretty quickly. He may also lose potential votes in parliament.

I see Rory Stewart voted with the government. As the key issue was trust in Boris and he has been so vocal about not trusting him, I find this surprising. I guess he wants his career back more than he wants to be a good MP.

GG13- you probably do not read the Press from other EU countries, or other non EU- or watch their TV- or perhaps, talk to people from around the EU or the world on a daily basis- if you have not seen this in abundance.

So Boris says he won't negotiate extension. What does that mean?

Is the plan to send the letter and make the 'request' but refuse to engage the EU further and make it clear that, as the elected government (don't snicker, it's true until someone has the nerve to call a no-confidence vote) they won't cooperate in setting the terms for any extension that they don't want anyway?

That puts the EU in an interesting spot. They aren't supposed to negotiate with legislatures, only governments.

Rory Stewart has indicated he would like to stand for London Mayor. He will want friends in high places.

He's got no chance for London Mayor. London is Remain. He may have friends in high places but he has to persuade the voters to elect him.

I don't know but I think RS would see it as loyalty to the government. He sees loyalty as important I think. He is going to stand for Mayor as an independent and is currently walking around London. His little video clips are interesting.

Just watched Dominic Reeve and Tom Brake being interviewed. They have both spoken to the gathering outside parliament. They looked very tired. I think they are all pretty worn out.
