If we had a an Election before we have a Withdrawal Agreement ...

How would you vote or, not knowing at this point what the two main parties will offer, what would affect how you vote? Does the Withdrawal Agreement matter most or is the Political Declaration your important bit, or how the country will be run for the next five years?

Oh yes! Missed that. Sorry. Carry on! ?

This was a reasonable thread until the last few posts. Can people actually not post without calling MPs names; surely by now we know how dangerous this can be?

It is also more interesting to hear people's thought than a chimed out piece of propaganda. If we accept you will not change people's minds - and I think by now that seems to be the case - then you are just coming on the thread to be rude to other people.

In both cases the sort of people who complain about people being being bullied off threads as if it is nothing to do with them have been the instigators, sadly.

I too would prefer a Confirmatory Referendum prior to an election. We could well end-up with another hung parliament which helps no one. However, no one seems to have a way of achieving a vote. Personally, I would love to hear how it can be done. The reason I started this thread was in the hope to hear how people see the putative election. If they feel they will be voting re Brexit first and foremost, and if that can be squared with the way you want the country run.

Posts I preferred to further back than I thought - sorry.

Davidhs Mon 28-Oct-19 07:32:20 your vote does matter. If everyone felt like that and didn't vote then nothing would change. Even if we feel our vote is meaningless it is still worth casting so that we know we did all we could. I'm not suggesting you won't vote, just that we all should.

GracesGranMK3 Mon 28-Oct-19 08:00:45 sorry but I won't 'accept' I am still open to persuasion if anyone wants to try

I strongly feel that an election is pointless at the moment. A second referendum would be much better. Conservatives are clearly a Leave party, LibDems clearly Remain, but Labour is still sitting on the fence. No other policies matter until Brexit is sorted. I think we would get another hung parliament.

GracesGranMK3 Mon 28-Oct-19 09:01:23

I probably put it badly Nonnie but I would be surprised if calling MPs silly names or telling you to "get over it" would change your mind. Some minds certainly seem closed though.

So is there any way we can get this GrandmaMoira? If not it does leave many people in a quandary about how to vote.

I would vote Labour because of Corbyn a Socialist leader.

With fantastic polices like The Green Industrial Revolution
Properly funding our NHS Labour is the party of the NHS and the only Party that will save it from privatisation.

I think Lib Dems and SNP have said they want an election by the 9th December this year don't know if that still stands.

Don't give much time to campaign, though with the media having to give equal coverage to both main parties Labour will have a chance to be heard and their fantastic polices.

It should not be all about Brexit there are more important things like how our country is run.

It will be a battle for Labour we have a fight on our hands with the establishment wanting their cosy lifestyle of the 1% elite wanting to stay the same.

And all the negative reporting, attacks on Corbyn calling him weak leader for the last four years. Remember a German in war time saying if you tell a lie often enough people will believe it.

Twitter is down at the moment but would post all the good things Labour would do if in government for all.

Grany Mon 28-Oct-19 09:11:06

And Labour Corbyn are not sitting on the fence re Brexit. They have swathes of people who voted leave and those who voted remain so Labour would negotiate a deal then put it to the people for a vote with remain as an option can't say fairer than that.

GracesGranMK3 Mon 28-Oct-19 09:01:23 totally agree that there are a lot of 'closed minds' and the 'get over it' usually comes from those same people.

Grany Mon 28-Oct-19 09:04:51 "if you tell a lie often enough people will believe it." I totally agree, that's what's been happening for over 3 years and, despite so many being disproved, people still believe them. I have no answer apart from a test before being allowed to vote which I don't believe in.

I think most MPs seem to vote according to what will get them promoted or keep their jobs. Only a small percentage vote for what is best for the country.

I'm with the 'no vote is wasted' contingent.

I think one of the worst things about events over the past few years is that people have become cynical about constructive political change.

I would vote for Corbyn. I would prefer us to have proportionate representation (I lived in Germany for ten odd years and voted there so I know the system) - I don't like the first past the post system.

Personally I am sick and tired of as one person puts it - people being valued for their apparent 'charisma' or lack of it. Corbyn has experience, and in my view has shown incredibly patience, perseverance and dignity, not being swayed by sensationalism in the media.

I feel these are the qualities we need now. Being a parent or a grandparent is also a leadership position and personally I would take these qualities over 'charisma' any day,

I would hope for politics now in the interests of the many, not the few. Britain is in danger of becoming a cruel, uncaring society and it needs to stop.

No 10 says it could back Lib Dem plan for 9 December election

Government could back plan if it fails to pass motion under Fixed-term Parliaments Act

I do not think an election will solve anything. I think we will have exactly the same impasse in the next parliament as wehave had in this.

A second referendum, especially if the result is Remain, will disillusion leavers so much that it will leave our society scarred and divided for generations, as it still is former mining areas after the divisive strikes in the 1980s.

Depsite being an enthusiastic remainder, I am beginning to believe that the only solution is a No Deal exit. Once we have dropped into the absolute chaos and economic harm that will cause we may then regroup as a nation and try and build a new way forward.

We’re facing a second referendum up here in Scotland and while I don’t particularly like the idea of leaving the UK things change - if the majority now want to leave then that’s democracy. We can’t be held to one vote forever, especially if the facts that emerge post referendum show a different picture. This result was always advisory and we should hold Parliament to that.
