All the hyperbole, the grandstanding the rhetoric all over. We have a result and the British public have spoken. We have a conservative government.
Are we surprised?

Vladimir Putin sends his regards and congratulations to his puppet Johnson who can now join his puppet Trump in de-stabilising the West.

I wonder if we will ever see that report on Russsian interference in our so-called democracy?

Urmstongran Fri 13-Dec-19 19:32:34

Luckygirl I understand your scepticism.

The daftest thing the Tories did (assisted by LibDem) was austerity a la George Osbourne. Hateful man. Cut services to the bone over 8 years. Decimated social care and council services - libraries, SureStart, cuts to police, bursaries taken from people who might have otherwise trained to be nurses etc (then guess what - horror! We had a shortage so enticed fully qualified ones from poorer countries) - and all for what? Balancing the books?? MaizieD explained that was never necessary. (Where is she today by the way?).

Anyway.

That was then and this is now.

Austerity is over - officially.

Boris - a strong leader - is in charge, not weak Theresa May. Boris has a majority government and will have now all his MP’s behind him.

I truly believe he intends to bring the U.K. together. Money for Scotland. NI to vote in 4y whether they are happy or not (and in the meantime the best of both worlds - so much so that Scotland who also voted to Remain are a bit peeved).

Money will start to flow. Boris will keep his promise - I honestly feel he does CARE. He wants to be a good PM. He knows many people have put their trust in him by voting against their usual principles and I don’t think he will let them down. In fact, I think he’d like to do well and KEEP their votes.

We can only wait, give him the benefit of the doubt and trust he will make us proud.

One Nation could inspire us all yet.

BusterTank Fri 13-Dec-19 19:35:06

No , would have been a surprised if Labour had got in . Now let's get brexit done . Well done Boris .

Urmstongran Fri 13-Dec-19 19:36:00

Why do I need to ‘calm down’ *suttonJ’? I don’t understand your comment. Please explain!

Barmeyoldbat Fri 13-Dec-19 19:36:46

Thanks Maddyone for correcting me about the VAT, its seems that VAT is not paid on school fees.

varian Fri 13-Dec-19 19:42:24

How long does anyone think it will take to get brexit done?

A brexit party MEP told us thirty years. Jacob Rees Mogg said fifty. It certainly wont be done in our lifetimes.

Meanwhile, according to all economic forecasts, the UK will go down the pan, more businesses and more of our brightest and best people will go abroad and before too long it is likely that the UK will be no more as first Scotland, then NI leave.

Patriotic British people wanted to remain in the EU and thanks to our corrupted democracy they are being deprived of their rights as EU citizens.

No wonder so many doctors, scientists and other professional are about to join the brexit brain drain

Dareyouto Fri 13-Dec-19 19:44:21

I think you’ll find it is a case of voting for the least of a bad lot and just one sentence in the Labour manifesto that made me feel extremely anxious. It referred to the decriminalisation of abortion. It didn’t explain that this involves abortion on demand up to and including the day of birth as is happening in New York and other states. What happens in the U.S is often copied here. It is infanticide by another name and just filled me with a deep abhorrence that any civilisation could even contemplate such an inhuman act for one second.

Jellaway Fri 13-Dec-19 19:47:17

I am very happy. I am not naive. I know that there are rocky roads to go down before everything can be sorted. I didn’t agree with the massive contribution that the top countries put in to run the EU for so many countries that give small contributions but gain the same benefits. I think the EU grew too big and changed vastly from the Common Market that it was supposed to be. I am looking forward to a better future. I only hope no-one else thinks of yet another spanner to throw in the works.

Pantglas2 Fri 13-Dec-19 19:49:34

Well said Urmstongran. I’ve stayed away from the political threads for 48 hours as emotions have been high but you’ve been magnanimous and conciliatory in victory - as has Boris. Long may this inclusiveness continue.

Urmstongran Fri 13-Dec-19 19:51:45

What a really nice comment to make Pantglas - thank you very much.

CoolioC Fri 13-Dec-19 19:58:44

Urmstongran
Nicely put.

Varian
Let’s wait and see.

varian Fri 13-Dec-19 20:04:25

I won't have to wait long. Half my family are about to move to another EU country where their skills are valued.

Susieq62 Fri 13-Dec-19 20:25:45

Jura I agree with all you say.
My neighbour is a midwife at an NHS hospital. She tells me they are on their knees and are now desperately concerned about how things will develop.
My daughter is an adoption social worker and she is worried that her work levels will go through the ceiling. We will be governed by elitist males who are totally out of kilter with many in the country. Their strings are being pulled by millionaire bankers, press owners etc. How have we come to having more food banks than outlets for McDonalds?? Let’s hope none of us require social care in the next 5 years as it will be non existent and don’t get me started on leaving the EU!!!

Soniah Fri 13-Dec-19 20:25:45

Can't believe some of the stuff on here, all I can say is don't get ill unless you have private medicine, fork out for the basics for your grandchildren's schools, don't be surprised if the crime rate goes up/you never see a police officer - the promised increase in numbers will not even get them to what they were, give generously to the homeless - you are their only hope now, I could go on but you won't be reading this. I hope I'm proved wrong and you can say I told you so, I didn't vote on Brexit lines in this election but for the benefit of the many not myself, I'm fortunate enough to have enough money to survive, hope you do too

CoolioC Fri 13-Dec-19 20:30:59

Soniah
Never give money to the homeless, give food or drink but never money. Think ......why.

CoolioC Fri 13-Dec-19 20:33:05

Let’s hope they speak the language and understand the customs. Too many Brits go abroad and want to change the country to suit themselves.

They will return, 10-12 tops.

Jabberwok Fri 13-Dec-19 21:02:31

Boris didn't hide in a fridge! He was helping on a milk round at 4 in the morning, and guess what, milk is kept in a commercial walk in fridge!!

pearl79 Fri 13-Dec-19 21:09:48

well we now know the buffoon did once have a soul. sold now for the awfulness to come. children let down by our education system, unable to train for the jobs we most need. the sick? the lucky in hospital corridors, most didn't get there in time (too far away, local hospital closed). benefits? forget it - even the sick and disabled. but at least we got the vote to leave the eu, with all the lies we were fed - on the side of the bus!!!

TATT Fri 13-Dec-19 21:14:13

My son and his wife are both very anxious about their future as, sadly, they both have chronic health conditions and disabilities. It shouldn’t be like this.

CoolioC Fri 13-Dec-19 21:16:08

Pearl 79
Which country are you referring to? In your previous?

Hetty58 Fri 13-Dec-19 21:21:33

It turned out just how I expected (sadly). It was a vote for Brexit and against Corbyn - who just wasn't popular.

Some Labour voters I know actually voted Tory this time (while holding their noses) as their determination for Brexit was put above all else.

I found the news so depressing this morning, with the prospect of many years to sort out the mess.

poshpaws Fri 13-Dec-19 21:28:27

I could weep for this country - now Boris has the opportunity to do whatever Trade deals he wants with Trump - goodbye NHS as we know it, hello increased drug prices and chlorinated chickens filled with hormones and antibiotics - goodbye animal welfare standards, and may God help the poor, the disabled and the homeless. At least I have some comfort in knowing that most of Scotland voted SNP, and there's therefore a chance that we might be able to force Johnson to backtrack into "allowing" our right to a second referendum.

CoolioC Fri 13-Dec-19 21:35:15

The more I read on this thread the more I realise that it was the remain vote that was not informed.

I am not sure what part of “no” that Scotland doesn’t understand from the EU. Google it, the EU will not take Scotland on.

Nanna58 Fri 13-Dec-19 23:02:01

Lord above , it seems I was mistaken - I thought just a general election had taken place but reading some of the posts here it was actiually Armageddon!,!

Maremia Fri 13-Dec-19 23:02:13

And so it begins. A full day has not yet gone by. Remember the social care promise made to us? Damien Green Tory MP is saying on @lbc that we all need to start paying towards an insurance type system to pay for our care. Day 1, and we get the first of the broken election promises.
And yes, he was hiding from the interviewer in that fridge!
