Harry & Megan drop HRH Titles

I think that they have agreed to drop the HRH titles from April, as there would have been too many conditions to making money while holding the title.
They are also, apparently, going to repay the £2.4m of taxpayers money spent on Frogmore.
So, it looks like neither of them will be back to the UK very often at all.
I think that this is the right decision, do you?

Meaghan will keep going till she gets it all her own way ....Harry will realise ( (2 years tops) and come scurrying back to Blighty ....she will have massive pay-off. Job done!

I heard that it will all be reviewed after a year to see if it's all working out as planned, and yes, the Queen does want to give them the option of stepping back in if that's what they all want.
As far as security goes, if they are really going to earn the billions of dollars that everyone is predicting they can either pay for it themselves or it can be paid from the huge taxes they'll be paying to the Canadian (and British?) governments.

Now as far as the HRH goes, how are they to be addressed in future? At present its Your Royal Highness, followed by Sir or Ma'am but what will it be when the HRH is not used, just Harry and Meghan? That seems a bit presumptive even for the informal Canada and US.
Nobody has mentioned it so far and I'm curious.

no one leaves their 8 month old baby in another country unless this was already mapped out. don't care what they do to make themselves happy. i DO care about how they went about doing it.

Jaycee5 Sun 19-Jan-20 10:36:33

Growstuff Not much chance of that. There is another thread about them today dripping with it. It starts by a gleeful comment that they will probably divorce soon.
I can't see what they have done wrong to be so hated.

4allweknow Sun 19-Jan-20 10:38:07

If there is to be no public money then surely that means no public funded security. Sure there will be some organisation in Canada they can hire. But don't they think they won't need any being away from the public and press scrutiny they have had to endure in the UK. Canada is supposedly a safe haven. Still can't figure how they can just decide to live there without have to apply for immigration status especially in their lowly status of being Mr and Mrs Windsor.

Anniebach Sun 19-Jan-20 10:41:39

Hated ? Rubbish.

Their behaviour is being criticised, their hypocrisy.

GoldenAge Sun 19-Jan-20 10:46:20

Buffybee - I don't think from the commentary I've heard that they have 'agreed' - more like they have been told. If they want out, then they repay - and that's the absolutely correct decision reached by the Queen. I don't think Harry will return despite my belief that he might regret his decision. She will have more children, and he will be emotionally tied to her through them. My only question is why they can't repay the costs now - if they're being supported by his father's personal millions, why can't they repay the Frogmore refurbishment costs now and make the clean break, and at the same time why can't they repay the money spent on their spectacle of a wedding. Frankly it was disgusting that they cleared the streets of homeless people to make the area look nice for their wedding - this is a pair who believe they are more 'down with the people' so let Meghan continue to make her appearances in a 'jumper out of her wardrobe' and Harry to do the same, let them live an ordinary life as I do, and from their clothes allowance alone I'm sure they could put money back into the UK treasury that might go to assist the homeless who were banished from Windsor a couple of years ago.

They will remain Duke and Duchess of Sussex for what it’s worth.
It’s all such a silly anachronism. I wish the lot of them well, especially theQueen who has been impeccable and I acknowledge that their existence pulls in the tourists but all this fuss because the 6th in line to the throne decides on a non-royal life in a different country leaves me baffled. How do the royals in some other countries manage to have a life as well as being royal I wonder. Perhaps they don’t have the nasty class consciousness (and xenophobia) which exist in the UK as well as a particularly toxic media.

Nezumi65 Sun 19-Jan-20 11:01:58

Quite Minerva. Royals (including those much closer to the throne) in other countries manage to work and live relatively private lives.

I keep hearing about their (her hmm ) ‘behaviour’ & I have no idea what they have done that is so bad. I know she got pregnant/crossed her legs/shut a car door/cradled her bump/wore a sleeveless dress/smiled, but what I am missing?

Nezumi65 Sun 19-Jan-20 11:06:26

Windsor’s homeless moved out for Eugenie’s wedding as well. And the homeless are the responsibility of the LA not the Sussexes www.theguardian.com/society/2018/oct/10/windsor-asks-rough-sleepers-clear-out-princess-eugenie-royal-wedding

TBH if you want to start shouting about homelessness I would look towards 10 Downing Street and stop voting in the Tories. Blaming H&M for what happens to homeless people seems rather a stretch.

So pleased titles being ‘dropped’ didn’t mind Harry so much, but almost 70 years of being a Sussex lass myself, felt rather indignant at Megan who has rearly trodden our soil being the Duchess of our county. I wish them, him especially
a happy and peaceful future it can’t be at all easy knowing he is denying his son the regular contact with each member of his ageing family.

Razzy Sun 19-Jan-20 11:27:08

I am glad for them. The vitriol they’ve had has been terrible. They are still royals, just not senior royals. No different to Zara Phillips for instance. They can work as they please and of course they’ll make money. Prince Charles can give them money if he wants. William and Kate can have all the attention. Let’s see what the next stick is that the media want to beat them with!

Nezumi65 Sun 19-Jan-20 11:35:19

Why is he denying contact with his ageing family? These are people who fly between continents all the time.

As for the Queen as a doting hands on granny remember she left her own children behind for extended periods of time - I doubt the face to face contact will be much different.

Anniebach Sun 19-Jan-20 11:36:17

Harry is 6th in line to the throne, Zara 16th in line so there is a difference

Sparklefizz Sun 19-Jan-20 11:43:56

I expect they create news in their own countries, just not in ours.

Bellocchild Sun 19-Jan-20 11:48:32

This would have happened quite soon, anyway. Prince Charles intends to slim down support and function for the royal family to just the direct heirs and children. Princes Andrew and Harry are not close enough to the line of succession now.

varian Sun 19-Jan-20 11:50:40

Another success for the tax dodging billionaire brexiters who own our gutter press.

Nezumi65 Sun 19-Jan-20 12:08:11

At birth Zara was 6th in line to throne, so not much difference really.

ReadyMeals Sun 19-Jan-20 12:13:07

Just to clarify, having heard a proper royal expert on the radio, they still have the titles but agreed not to use the formal version of them while they are not working royals. Should they return at any time, their Dukedom and the HRH are still there in mothballs waiting for them to dust them off, and Harry is still in 6th place of succession.

Aepgirl Sun 19-Jan-20 12:22:19

Has suziewoozie been frightened off - I would have expected something from her!

ALANaV Sun 19-Jan-20 12:53:41

I just feel sorry for the Queen ...there have probably been times in her long life when she has just wanted to sit back and do nothing ….and I am SURE Prince Phillip would have not held back in telling her just that !! as the current Disney film's title song say LET IT GO …..poor Queen Elizabeth !

Summerlove Sun 19-Jan-20 12:55:49

She committed the unforgivable act of cutting off her father. You know the one who went to the media before the wedding to try to make himself look better. The one who use the media to get more attention for himself.

You know, the exact same thing everybody criticise her for doing. But when he does it it’s OK, maybe because he’s a man? Or a grandparent now? But she can’t do it because she is an uppity American. (Not that I think she does, and it’s properly proven that both her father and her sister do).

The hypocrisy of this of course is completely missed by most.

sarahellenwhitney Sun 19-Jan-20 13:01:54

Callistemon
Princess of Wales is a courtesy title held by the wife of the Prince of Wales. Although the title HRH was removed on the death of Princess Diana her title Princess of Wales was retained. It is unknown whether Kate herself, not born of royalty, will be Princess of Wales when William inherits the title Prince of Wales.

sarahcyn Sun 19-Jan-20 13:07:36

Thing is, in the USA and Canada these distinctions around titles mean nothing to most people. Whether HRH or not, H and M will exploit their perceived royal status ruthlessly - but they now don't have to do the boring stuff - I.e. meeting people like us and being pleasant to them...

Anniebach Sun 19-Jan-20 13:10:31

Diana was never Princess Diana , she was not princess of Wales, she was Diana princess of Wales

Charles title is The Prince of Wales , Diana’s was not the princess of Wales but the press and public called her so
