INDEPENDENCE DAY!

Hurrah! We're getting OUT at last!

But it seems strange to me that there is so little talk/news on the media about this. Before the General Election everything was about Brexit. To the point that even I got sick to death of it! But it's all gone quiet since then. Are there to be no celebrations from all those who voted to leave? (Sad that Big Ben won't even mark this historic event.)

(I was talking to a young woman the other day, and she didn't even know that we were leaving the EU on Friday!)

I can't really celebate in style, as most of my family wanted to remain -otherwise I would have had a party! So it will be a bit of a damp squib for me!

I shall still open a bottle of champers and toast this great country of ours - our democracy, our integrity - and now, at last, our freedom from a corrupt and self-serving feudalistic state.

No partying here - all a damp squib really, though I hear the local Wetherspoons are celebrating something....

phoenix Fri 31-Jan-20 23:08:52

Somebody in our little corner of the village has set off fireworks.

Must be something better they could spend their money on, surely?

Chestnut Fri 31-Jan-20 23:13:36

Party poopers abound! ?
Happy Brexit Day to all those who wish to celebrate ?‍♀️?

Party poopers abound!

Idiots who think the world will be changed in the morning certainly do.

merlotgran Fri 31-Jan-20 23:19:47

GG3. Nobody is expecting the world to be changed tomorrow.

So why the fuss?

Opal Fri 31-Jan-20 23:24:38

So why the fuss? Because certain posters can't stand other people being happy merlotgran, I suggest you ignore them.

rosecarmel Fri 31-Jan-20 23:27:05

Either way, it's an historical event we were able to witness- Here in the US, Republicans just undercut the framers of our Constitution, carving out a backwards path towards a monarchy ..

Woo hoo!

Not ..

King Donald, anyone?

JenniferEccles Fri 31-Jan-20 23:33:30

Happy Brexit to all, even the miseries who came on here to spoil things.

Yippee!! We are out ?!!

Opal Fri 31-Jan-20 23:34:40

And to you JE smile

Cherrytree59 Fri 31-Jan-20 23:34:47

Chestnut Fri 31-Jan-20 23:43:47

Okay, I admit I'm getting a bit carried away but it only happens once!

Rule Britannia
Britannia rules the waves.....

Dollymac Johnson's words of wisdom are that there will be some 'bumps in the road'.

I feel very sad that my DGS will be classed a 'foreigner'.

Dinahmo Fri 31-Jan-20 23:46:16

I read that Johnson celebrated by drinking a glass of English sparkling wine. They are good but how many people can afford them?

Ginny42 Fri 31-Jan-20 23:47:31

Chestnut now I know the world has gone completely bonkers. Rule the bloody waves? How delusional when we are about to become just a very small country.

Dawn22 Sat 01-Feb-20 00:00:37

I wish to record for posterity my utter objection to Britain leaving the UK. Isolated now, a friend of Trump, a madman with a blonde mop at the helm, causing huge damage to Ireland, the nearest neighbour.

SHAME ON THOSE WHO BROUGHT THIS ABOUT.

Chestnut Sat 01-Feb-20 00:05:27

Party poopers go to bed....this thread is for celebrating! ?
And for people who want to go completely bonkers as Ginny42 says! Now it's time for a dance.... ??‍♀️

Ginny42 Sat 01-Feb-20 00:13:37

Too much Bolly Chestnut?

eazybee Sat 01-Feb-20 00:23:17

But in spite of all temptations
To belong to other nations,
He remains an Englishman!
He remains an Englishman!

or words to that effect

Tummelthecat Sat 01-Feb-20 00:30:56

I feel quite sad. I don't remember any great desire to leave the EU before Cameron decided to hold the referendum, and I was surprised at the result. I'll be celebrating if and when it turns out that things are much better for all of us in 5 years time.

Oh dear..... well how about "Land of Hope and Glory, MOTHER of the FREE!" Thats us! Now smile

As it happens I dont drink alcohol at all. Thats a choice, not because I am an alcoholic ( I have had the latter said to me often, so I am pointing it out to you). I drink tea. Yes, I did have some tea which was grown here in Britain last night - some I had been given for Christmas. I know it was an expensive one but its once, not every day. Same goes for English wine. You dont drink and celebrate every day.

I had my tea drinkers party. Today is a new dawn and its stopped raining too.

So now, smile

I live in a small Northern town which voted to Leave. At the recent election, a Tory was voted into office by people who normally would rather die than vote Tory.

At 11pm last night, there were fireworks going off. The majority of people in this town are very pleased and their choice at the ballot box has helped to bring this about.

I am not local and feel no affinity to these people, but for once, I feel at one with them!!

Now let's put the 'Great' back into Great Britain!. (and before some Nelly Know-all puts me right, I know very well that the word 'Great' refers to the size of the country!)

I'm not one of the locals but I join them in their
