INDEPENDENCE DAY!

Hurrah! We're getting OUT at last!

But it seems strange to me that there is so little talk/news on the media about this. Before the General Election everything was about Brexit. To the point that even I got sick to death of it! But it's all gone quiet since then. Are there to be no celebrations from all those who voted to leave? (Sad that Big Ben won't even mark this historic event.)

(I was talking to a young woman the other day, and she didn't even know that we were leaving the EU on Friday!)

I can't really celebate in style, as most of my family wanted to remain -otherwise I would have had a party! So it will be a bit of a damp squib for me!

I shall still open a bottle of champers and toast this great country of ours - our democracy, our integrity - and now, at last, our freedom from a corrupt and self-serving feudalistic state.

VEGANSROCK
I back what you said at 5.23 yesterday 100%.
Brilliant rhetoric.
Common sense gone out the window and insanity will prevail.
Dawn.

1hr 26 minutes till we Leave ??

If the Remainers were gracious in defeat then of course we should be magnanimous in victory but as they are not , then let us celebrate from the rooftops!

There are a lot of Eyeores on here tonight.

I think it's meant to work the other way round UG - unless you are a child and it's your mother helping you to understand how things are done.

I do keep saying it but the name-calling doesn't improve things it just brings you down to the level many always suspected you all were on.

jura2 Fri 31-Jan-20 22:07:33

A lot of nasty gloating *ssed gammon, more like.

MaizieD Fri 31-Jan-20 22:09:12

It wasn't a bloody war, Ug. You didn't gain some sort of brilliant victory. Your vote has destroyed people's lives and livelihoods; taken more than half the UK to a place where it doesn't want to be and you can't even acknowledge the hurt you've done.

You've nothing at all to be magnanimous about.

Opal Fri 31-Jan-20 22:14:25

Oooooooh lots of sour grapes on here tonight. Raising a glass with you Urm, Cheers! grin

GracesGranMK3 Fri 31-Jan-20 22:16:23

Have you all no other friends to share this moment with that you have to come, where you know you will be met by comments from those not happy with either the vote or your attitudes, to "celebrate". Sad people.

Barmeyoldbat Fri 31-Jan-20 22:20:25

Sad people who celebrate other people misfortunes, like losing jobs because of Brexit. Next to go will be Nissan. Enjoy your cheap french wine.

Opal Fri 31-Jan-20 22:21:05

No, the sad people are the ones who come onto a celebratory thread in order to spread their stupid messages of doom and gloom. If you don't like the celebrations and happy messages, then why don't you leave the party?

merlotgran Fri 31-Jan-20 22:22:55

Have you all no other friends to share this moment

That's rather an unkind comment, GG3

Would you say the same to Gnetters who come on at Christmas?

Nobody is forcing you to read this thread.

rafichagran Fri 31-Jan-20 22:23:08

At 23.00 hours as remainer I will be lighting a candle. I am very sad. This is my 1st and will be my last thread on Brexit.
I can only hope for a better future for us all.

ExperiencedNotOld Fri 31-Jan-20 22:29:51

None of us can do more than guess what’ll happen in the next moment, let alone be so certain of the good or bad effect of leaving Europe. All we can do is get up to a new day and keep on keeping on.

GracesGranMK3 Fri 31-Jan-20 22:32:57

Does it matter if I am unkind to leavers who are determined to rub everyone's nose in this desperate night? NO merlotgran.

Opal whatever a thread starts as the bossy ones cannot insist on what is discussed on it. Or have you decided, single-handedly decided that you will have this your way too?

Opal Fri 31-Jan-20 22:41:12

No GGMK3, I couldn't care less, I just don't understand why you keep commenting on a thread that is obviously celebratory in nature, when you are such a doom and gloom merchant. You must be an absolute joy at a party .......

Urmstongran Fri 31-Jan-20 22:41:37

I assumed this was just a celebratory thread to commemorate an historic event. A ‘virtual’ party if you like.

Urmstongran Fri 31-Jan-20 22:49:38

Nearly there!

GracesGranMK3 Fri 31-Jan-20 22:50:21

Any premise put as an OP under News and Politics is open to challenge Opal. I have no idea why you don't understand that. You cannot dictate to people what they think or what they say even or even accepting your banning of their comments, though you seem to have the hubris to believe you can. It is incredibly rude and arrogant to try and do so.

Opal Fri 31-Jan-20 23:02:03

HAPPY BREXIT EVERYONE!!! grin

Dollymac Fri 31-Jan-20 23:03:09

As a Remainer, of course I have no choice, but to accept the decision and I wish you all well
Time will tell my friends, time will tell

Smileless2012 Fri 31-Jan-20 23:04:10

Yes, 'Happy Brexit'smile.

MawB Fri 31-Jan-20 23:04:23

I suddenly feel rather bleak and very lonely.

Dollymac Fri 31-Jan-20 23:06:17

Oh and by the way, where is Johnson, with his words of wisdom?

phoenix Fri 31-Jan-20 23:06:18

Bah humbug

AllotmentLil Fri 31-Jan-20 23:07:32

Same here Maw. ?

GracesGranMK3 Fri 31-Jan-20 23:07:35

It is certainly a bleak moment MawB
