I am disgusted by the announcement that these two have sacked 15 British members of staff. What are they thinking?
I ask myself 'how would I feel if I'd upped sticks and gone to another country out of loyalty to my employer, only for them to get rid of me 3 months later.
I would be heartbroken and furious.

I liked Kate’s green dress she wore yesterday

My point is that immigrants, and double immigrants even more so- who could have had to go back to a 'back home' they no longer knew- should have even more understanding and empathy. She has NONE.

But that point is not relevant in relation to Will Straws comment about "going back where she came from". He should not have said it, there is no justification for it despite what Priti should or shouldn't understand, and it is a racist remark.

Madgran77 Wed 04-Mar-20 17:43:18

…..and I did n ot mean to derail the thread and so will stop now re this point

janipat Wed 04-Mar-20 17:51:22

jura2 you state that yours was not a comment about her specific parents and yet you said Priti Patel is a double immigrant. Her family went to live in Uganda and had a very good living exploiting local Ugandans .........seems pretty specific to me. You have absolutely no idea what her parents did in Uganda, you can only speculate.

maddyone Wed 04-Mar-20 18:31:05

Jura
When you wrote that Asians made a very good living from exploiting local Ugandans, then maybe it was unwittingly, but it did sound rather as if you were defending Idi Amin’s actions in ejecting the Asians. I accept that you weren’t, as you have vehemently denied it.

Nonetheless, Meghan has received much support from the royal family and indeed from the British people. In fact, apart from Diana, I have never witnessed so much enthusiasm and support by the population for a person who had not yet even joined the royal family. She was invited by the Queen to Sandringham for Christmas, something no unmarried partner had ever before been asked. Her mother was invited to Buckingham Palace for tea with the Queen before the wedding. Where is the racism? I’d like examples.
H+M’s wedding cost millions, her house cost millions, and yet she was still feted when she was out doing royal engagements. She refused to go to meetings with the Queen when asked, including refusing to spend a couple of days at Balmoral when invited. She also refused to go to a meeting with Prince Charles, even though he had gallantly walked her down the aisle, when her sick father was unable to attend her wedding. I could go on and list a whole lot more of the appalling things she’s done (the worst to me was when she wore jeans to Wimbledon expecting to sit in the Royal Box, absolutely against the dress code, and the dress code would have been made clear to her, and then having not been allowed into the Royal Box, she demanded that paying members of the public had to be cleared from their seats so she could sit and watch the tennis without any ordinary mortal anywhere near her) but if I list more, there will still be people defending her. Perhaps the defenders should think a bit more about our monarch, nearly 94 years old, having to deal with this selfish young woman and all the trouble she’s caused and continues to cause.

Had she (Meghan) lived in Cromwell’s time I very much doubt that she would have got away with what she has done, and tried to do in Queen Elizabeth’s time.

The similarities between MM and Anne Boleyn are quite chilling; appearance, behaviour and the reaction both produced. Henry VIII was infatuated with Anne Boleyn for nine years but when the infatuation passed....

Meghan however has produced a son.

cupaffull Wed 04-Mar-20 19:54:19

Wow eazybee ....well said!
"It is Meghan Markle's complete indifference to royal protocol and tradition, her patent determination to split her besotted husband from his family, her intention to use her title to make money and her very transparent greed which has alienated the British public".
Sooo incredibly sad that this has come about tho. A kick in the teeth for the older royals, having tried their level best to assimilate Meghan. M&H didn't give it enough time imo. History says she's a bolter.

Davidhs Wed 04-Mar-20 20:58:02

As her previous husband commented “her way or the highway”, she has certainly proved herself a selfish, inconsiderate, woman that was only interested in the Status of marrying a prince.
If I was Harry, regardless of how besotted I was, her behavior would be wearing the relationship very thin, now that their plans for a new celebrity life is coming to nothing Harry must now be considering his options.

Her family went to live in Uganda and had a very good living exploiting local Ugandans

In the late 19th and early 20th century, many poor Indians went to East Africa as indentured labourers - virtual slavery. PP's grandparents went there to run a shop for their community.

If every shop owner, and presumably anyone making a living by providing goods and services to the public for money is an 'exploiter' then the majority of people in the world are in occupations that make them 'exploiters'. From Midwives to Undertakers and every occupation in between.

Davidhs Thu 05-Mar-20 08:28:46

“Her family went to live in Uganda and had a very good living exploiting local Ugandans”

And today Chinese migrants in Africa are taking over the commerce in every African country, the locals don’t like it one bit. It’s all about work ethic, Indians in particular are very good, using family and community contacts to help each other. They work long hours and make sacrifices in order to provide a better future for their children, the same applies to many migrant communities

You don’t have to have a nasty edge like Patel, that is a disadvantage, either she will change her style or she will go sooner or later

jura2 Thu 05-Mar-20 09:41:40

Poorly expressed, I'll concede and should have checked my sentence. All who settle there exploited the local population- slave labour and conditions. Not her parents in particular.

But you miss the point terribly - which is that she, more than most, should have empathy because it happened to her and family. And as double immigrants- she, more than anyone else, should understand the concept that when forced to leave a country (her parents did before the majority was forced) - going back to a 'back home' you have not known, or not for a long time, and have lost connection to or with, where the culture is no longer your own, where you know you will never have the kind of opportunities you had before, etc- is not acceptable. And yet she is happy to force people who have lived in the UK since childhood- to have to do that.

tickingbird Thu 05-Mar-20 09:45:26

I believe the senior royals felt Harry was rushing things by getting married so quickly and probably feel he’s made a mistake. He’s much loved and they’re probably very worried how this will pan out. I think MM will find the Establishment machine is very powerful and I doubt she’ll come out on top. The post by her best friend “That folks is what power looks like” will come back to bite her on the backside. She has no idea.

M0nica Thu 05-Mar-20 10:26:45

Will she be the younger Royal generation's equivalent to the Duchess of York? A rackety demi-mondaine rattling around as a hanger-on of every group she is a sort of member of - royal, celebratory, rich. Belonging nowhere other than with the the tacky and empty headed.

GracesGranMK3 Thu 05-Mar-20 10:30:59

Now the wind has finally dropped and the rain has eased off some people are seizing the chance to exercise their high horses.

I'm not sure what the wind and rain have to do with anything merlogran. Personally, I have been rather busy with moving house, a bout of norovirus, having my kitchen fitted, my mother dying and arranging her funeral but whatever stopped me posting earlier I hope my moral outlook is always at a high standard.

The bible usually has something useful to tell us and I can only agree with the views expressed about the caterwauling gossip or, as the bible calls them, the "simple babbler":

Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble. Whoever slanders his neighbour secretly I will destroy. Whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart I will not endure. Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets; therefore do not associate with a simple babbler.

Taking that advice I will stop associating with this nasty and mean spirited thread.

Lancslass1 Thu 05-Mar-20 10:37:51

It is the Duke of Windsor and Wallace Simpson all over again.
Weak Royal besotted with American woman.
Harry doesn’t look happy.
What on Earth will he do over there?
The one thing I can’t understand though is how can a mother leave her baby in another continent?
What a responsibity for the friend and nanny looking after the poor child.

Anniebach Thu 05-Mar-20 10:40:54

In fairness to Megs, it’s what the royals have to do, come 31st
March she won’t have to because she will not be a royal

tickingbird Thu 05-Mar-20 10:45:58

* Whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart I will not endure.*

Goodness me GracesGran don’t you read the political threads? The condescending, sneering comments on there towards other members from certain quarters are numerous.

Chewbacca Thu 05-Mar-20 10:48:58

Who ever exhalts themselves will be humbled by 'eck, you're quick Annie! grin

GracesGranMK3 condolences on the loss of your Mother flowers

Norovirus combined with moving house, what an awful combination.

That was said with tongue in cheek, wasn't it? ?

maddyone Thu 05-Mar-20 12:55:37

GracesGran, I’m so sorry to hear about your mother flowers and also about all your other troubles. Hope you’re feeling better now.

Will Meghan actually turn up for her final engagements?

Anniebach Thu 05-Mar-20 13:55:42

He has something on this evening, no reporting of her arrived
yet
