Government is lying about lack of availability of CV testing chemicals

I'm not surprised. But hugely disappointed. I understand politics and that a Tory decision isn't the same as a Labour decision, but at the moment, SURELY the only thing any government should be doing is whatever helps the country and its people the most?

I give up - a friend told you . Oh that’s alright then

notanan2 Wed 01-Apr-20 15:18:59

If its no good to us why count it?

Would be like counting actual hospital beds instead of bed capacity

Would have been totally misleading!

GagaJo Wed 01-Apr-20 15:19:12

'sort of have it, but we don't really'?

Your friend must be a government minister. That is not logical at all.

If we have the chemicals, just say they're not ready yet.

The government need to see that lying is reducing their credibility. So when they say, 'Stay in. It's not safe.' people ignore them because they lie.

GagaJo Wed 01-Apr-20 15:19:45

Oh you mean, like counting theoretical nurses, instead of ACTUAL nurses?

Probably because we cant afford to join a war with china on top of everything else we're dealing with right now Jabberwok

And I hope it stays that way because I wouldnt fancy our chances!

GagaJo Wed 01-Apr-20 15:25:30

More obsession JW. Blimey. You been taking lessons from Greta?

Harris27 Wed 01-Apr-20 15:31:08

Reading above I’m more confused than ever. Are we being fed untruths or simply there are shortages. I watch every night and listen to the mps but I tend to believe Jenny the nhs top notch the best she keeps my faith.

GagaJo Wed 01-Apr-20 15:36:01

I think they're lying. I don't know why.

notanan2 Wed 01-Apr-20 15:45:44

Harris I think in this situation there are a lot of "wrong" answers and few if any "correct" answers to be had sad

suziewoozie Wed 01-Apr-20 15:53:05

Oh fgs JW

None of this is gonna get the logistics sorted sooner."

LOL! Have you worked in or close to any gvt executive/policy/strategy/pr role ?

I can assure you that heated public debate and outcry about sketchy performance/misleading information can and often does get things done quicker!!

For gvts, vis a vis the public, it's all about firefighting. And opportunities to garner good press.

I am completely apolitical. I've seen too much politics of all stripes. I've learned too much. From that perspective, I think this gvt has made a shambles of its response and has let the country down. The other side would have done just as badly in their own ways, for similar and different reasons.

When this is all over, whatever post-Covid19 Inquiry/Royal Commission is set up will surprise and even shock with what it uncovers.

Jabberwok Wed 01-Apr-20 15:56:38

I'm talking about protesters on the streets, such as when President Trump visited. Why don't these same protesters shout loudly against the appalling injustices in China, particularly concerning Muslims and other minority groups when these come to light? Is it ok for China, are they somehow exempt?! Even JC , so vociferous about islamophobia seems unaware or unconcerned with China's record! Why is this?!

Callistemon Wed 01-Apr-20 16:02:07

Jabberwok it is not wise to criticise China in any way when Gagajo is on the thread.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 01-Apr-20 16:06:26

marilla that’s more or less how I approached this crises and I have come to exactly the same conclusion.

Chestnut Wed 01-Apr-20 16:18:07

Absolutely agree Jabberwok - so many people protest about soft targets (Trump, Boris etc.) but won't speak up against the real issues. As far as I'm concerned China is responsible for this because they didn't close their borders as soon as they realised there was a new virus on the loose.

suziewoozie Wed 01-Apr-20 16:18:48

It’s interesting isn’t it how some posters have absolutely nothing at all to contribute to the thread but post anyway .At leat not is up for a discussion.

suziewoozie Wed 01-Apr-20 16:20:31

Well I absolutely blame China for the Governments inadequate ( to say the least) communication strategy.

Jabberwok Wed 01-Apr-20 16:30:43

Perhaps this poster is suggesting that this virus didn't come from China and we've all been misled. Perhaps China's record on human rights and animal welfare is a myth too. Perhaps climate change is another myth hence Greta's clearly ridiculous obsession! Wow all these myths! what gullible people we all are to be taken in particularly by Greta!

GrannieIggle Wed 01-Apr-20 16:37:36

@Jabberwok
LOL! As I was washing my hands for the umpteenth time and disinfecting this that and the other this morning, I was mentally preparing my bill for disinfection materials and attendant stress to send to the Chinese gvt after this calamity is all done! On the same page as you, J.

I know from friends abroad, that criticism is running high in a number of Western areas at least. It seems that there's also much privately-voiced criticism directed their way here at home. Not just for COVID19 but all their predatory economic activities which are damaging/making weak, client states of the nations they prey on. COVID19 is tip of the iceberg really.

Last week I had a mini-breakdown about running out of toilet paper, dishwasher tabs, sundry special dietary products (not been able to get any deliveries of anything for 3 weeks and as a vulnerable SI I never got a chance to even think about hoarding!).

So I declared the next day "I hate China" Day! (Well, not the people per se, nor the land itself - but the gvt and the way they do things.)

I might have to do that more frequently if all this mayhem carries on too long.hmm

paddyanne Wed 01-Apr-20 16:50:09

Because the Tory government here is SO much better ....lol .A lot of folk on here appear to be sharing a brain ,sadly the brain isn't working !
Bojo wanted the herd immunity route

people disagreed with him so he's simply doing it by stealth,he'll still mange to get rid of the uneconomic people in society .Toby Young was quite blunt about it yesterday ,Bojo is wasting billions on supporting people when this will lead to economic disater ,losing a few hundred THOUSAND mainly elderly people a bit earlier than expected is the price that should be paid to keep the economy safe.Or words to that effect.Hence BOJO ;s supposed CV ,he 's in HIDING ,the same way he does when anything comes up he doesn't like to deal with .

vegansrock Wed 01-Apr-20 17:37:33

Will anti China rhetoric solve anything? Btw there are plenty of protests against the Chinese government - there was a big one a few years ago when the president of China came on a state visit.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 01-Apr-20 18:06:44

It would assist the governments cause greatly if they actually produced a minister that answered the questions put to them. Sharma failed miserably tonight on questions relating to testing as did Gove.

The conclusion by those watching will be that they have no control over either testing or protective clothing.

suziewoozie Wed 01-Apr-20 18:08:18

The posters who deliberately and with malice aforethought in an attempt to derail this thread probably did so because they couldn’t understand the points bring made which required a certain degree of an ability to think and construct an argument. You know like children who steal the ball to spoil a game they can’t play. We should pity them really but I think I’ll just leave them. to it and find a thread with grown ups on it. Safer bet on MN

suziewoozie Wed 01-Apr-20 18:10:32

Before I leave this thread can I just add WW that China were talking through Sharma’s earpiece tonight telling him how not to answer questions. ?
