Boris Johnson admitted to hospital

It’s said as a precaution, not an emergency. I hope he recovers. Who will lead?

I thought the 8 pm admission was a worrying time of day too, but maybe, just maybe, Boris wanted to wait for the Queen's broadcast before "stealing"the headlines. I saw many front pages with the Queen on being hastily rewritten once the news of Boris broke, so maybe if he had gone earlier the Queen's speech would not have had the same impact?

I am no fan of Boris, but certainly would not wish this on him. It is not a surprise that he has been admitted to hospital as his symptoms have been so persistent. Poor man must be feeling rubbish.

Grandad1943 Mon 06-Apr-20 09:41:00

Ellianne a very good point you make above in regard to the timing of the Boris admission to hospital in relation to the Queen's speech.

Despite the magnificent brains us men have we would never have thought of that. That without doubt is a woman's intuition. ??

Ellianne Mon 06-Apr-20 09:54:50

Thanks Grandad. Maybe if we had an intuitive woman alongside Boris in government we might be better off! Trouble is, I can't think of one!

Daisymae Mon 06-Apr-20 10:02:03

I think that it's probably time for him to hand the reins over to someone else. I assume that it will be Raab. Running this crisis from a hospital bed does not instill confidence

spabbygirl Mon 06-Apr-20 10:52:54

I am no fan of Boris either, but he will now be experiencing the effect of the cuts he so enthusiastically championed. Shortage of ventilators Boris?

Spookwriter23 Mon 06-Apr-20 10:53:35

I think it's just a precaution they don't want him getting pnemonia

Craicon Mon 06-Apr-20 10:56:41

I hope the nursing staff remember that Boris and his pals voted against giving them a pay rise not too long ago.

Daisymae Mon 06-Apr-20 10:57:05

I seriously doubt that the PM will experience any evidence of shortages, ambulance waiting time or difficulty in seeing a consultant.

vegansrock Mon 06-Apr-20 10:58:55

I doubt he will be experiencing any shortages. The fact that he is said to still be in charge though, is a bit worrying. If he is in hospital he should be resting and focussed on his health and recovery. I had a horrible flu type virus a few weeks ago, don't know if it was c-19 as no test, but all I could do was lie on the sofa for about a fortnight. The rest of the time I was coughing and feeling rubbish. We don't know how Dominic Cummings is, but his uncle died a couple of days ago of Covid-19 did anyone read that? he was a well respected judge.

Yes we do need Boris. Who else would you have? Keir Stamer? Look up his record as head of the CPS.

vegansrock Mon 06-Apr-20 11:03:47

But do we need hime ill?
Now fans can't point to Corbyn they want to dish the dirt on Starmer.
Boris hasn't an untarnished record btw.

I am not really sure why people think that they inhabit the moral high ground by not wishing a fatal disease on anyone at all. I can think of several ghastly people who have brought misery to millions who I would happily have wished dead. Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin to name but 3!!

Nannieannie51 Mon 06-Apr-20 11:11:04

I don’t wish anyone ill but I think he and his government have done a dreadful job. They’ve been in power for 10 years without properly funding the NHS. They knew that it was only a matter of time for a pandemic to happen and even when it first hit in China they didn’t ramp up production of PPE and ventilators. My sympathies are with the NHS workers, care workers etc who have not got enough protection and are working in harrowing times.

So much for heard immunity...

So much for heard immunity...

Is that a pun?

Many years ago when I started in finance if something didn't balance we were told assume there is at least one error. It is easy to diagnose C19 and then not look for anything else it could be there is more than one cause of his illness. Hopefully further tests can find this or rule it out. I too wish him well wouldn't have his job for anything.

dragonfly46 Mon 06-Apr-20 11:19:09

Gosh Suzie you do seem to have some sort of axe to grind. Do you have to jump down people's throats at the slightest provocation?

Pippa22 Mon 06-Apr-20 11:20:04

Whatever your political persuasion surely you must acknowledge that Boris has been working extremely hard both with Brexit ( remember that ? ) and now with organising the government on dealing with the virus. He hs had such a lot of work to do with drippy Corbin snapping at his heels criticising every move. Hope Keir Starmer will be of more use. Hope Boris gets well soon, your country needs you !

Technically we have a group of people providing governance at all times, not just the PM.
The country is governed by the cabinet. The PM is just "first among equals" and usually they don't have a deputy. According to the Institute for Government he has reportedly nominated Domic Raab to take on the PM role if he became unfit.

Pippa22 it is possible to work hard and still be useless you know ?

... though this thread is really about him going into hospital rather than his work ethic and skill.

jh85 Mon 06-Apr-20 11:25:03

Get well soon Boris and Carrie. The country needs you.
