With Brexit, we are fast becoming another state of the USofA. Some people may think this could be a good thing.......
Others, like me, think it is going to be totally disastrous. Even if USA still had a humanatarian President like Obami, it would be wrong on so many levels, but with the current orange nightmare - to me - it is even more frightening than the current Pandemic.
Thought this summed him up

I saw this on FB a few days ago - I gave a rueful laugh!

Donald Trump is what he is.
The really frightening thing is that America, with its enormous population, seems unable to produce an alternative.

I saw an excellent thing that Bill Gates had written on another forum. I posted that I wished he was the US president and others agreed then the Trump fans (incredible that he has them) piled in. I've been trying to find the Bill Gates letter so I could post it here but to no avail.

Donald Trimp ( and Boris Johnson) are both isolationist dangers. I can understand how their rhetoric appeals to some. But for the UK we need to be part of Europe (even a flawed Europe). Trump is right that China is largely to blame for COVID-19 but his handling of the problem is woeful. COVID-19 has shown the rest of the world that China is not to be trusted. As a country we have to reduce our dependency on China and the USA as quickly as is possible. Many of the healthcare staff that saved Boris are EU Nationals, that alone should get through his thick skull and make him realise that Brexit and Trump are both disasters.

Please can we become part of New Zealand? Only state leader I admire and trust.

Lucca Thu 16-Apr-20 13:57:26

This is the best piece of writing for a long time well worth reading it all.
But I really like the last line : if being a tw*t were a tv show, trumo would be the box set.

I thought this thread was about Donald Trump , not Boris Johnson, Brexit, or New Zealand.

As it isn't I am checking out.

Cindersdad Thu 16-Apr-20 14:39:57

Boris, Trump and Brexit are all intertwined. New Zealand shows there is a better way. Threads in Gransnet and other forums often go off subject for many reasons.

Lucca thanks for sharing that perfect summary

Trump is a megalomaniac and like all megalomaniacs they can't/ don't want to see anything beyond the power that they hold.

EllanVannin Thu 16-Apr-20 16:02:18

He's even trying to usurp the positions of the medics, his latest motto, his " authority is total " , says it all.

rosecarmel Thu 16-Apr-20 16:07:21

The article was published March 8th, there's way worse to say about him presently I'm afraid- His briefings are rife with propaganda and lies- Every sentence, damn near ..

Jabba The Hutt is Mitch McConnell -- see image-

I'm not a fan of Obama- We never recovered from the last crisis, largely due to his inadequacies as a President-

Biden's chances of winning are slim- Progressives won't vote for him just like they didn't vote for Clinton-

Jane43 Sat 18-Apr-20 10:36:22

He seems to have changed his ‘my authority is total’ stance now to leaving decisions to the state Governors. He must have realised by the former stance he would have to take the blame for any mistakes or bad news whereas by leaving decisions to Governors he can blame them but taking any credit of course.

I have a friend in Minnesota and she is keeping me informed of what is going on over there. It seems there isn’t much financial cushioning over there, people who have lost their employment have to claim unemployment benefit and use food banks so it isn’t surprising that so many people are supporting Trump’s call to ‘liberate’ their state. Apparently all adults have had a check for around $1000 and all children a check for around $500, that seems to be it so far.

He's saying the governors have the final say then undermining them by tweeting things like 'Free Virginia' and 'Free Michigan' thereby encouraging the anti-lockdown demonstrations.

rosecarmel Sat 18-Apr-20 16:11:03

Nobody we know have received stimulus checks-

Nobody we know has received their unemployment pay-

Nobody we know received small business grants-

One person we know received a 60.00 boost in their food assistance program back in March- That's for a family of 8-

Corporations raked in millions from the stimulus- (remember, money = votes)

Thousands are lining up at food banks as food bank donations decline-

Instacart food delivery service has jumped into prescription delivery services as the number of people waiting for grocery delivery keeps increasing, unable to secure a delivery date-

There isn't enough protective equipment -

There isn't enough testing-

quizqueen Sat 18-Apr-20 16:22:44

Some of the Governors of individual states complained that Donald was not a King and couldn't tell them to relax their lockdown rules, so he changed his mind and said that it would be up to individual states when they did it. Now, these same governors are saying that he is absolving responsibility!!!! Not everything is Donald's fault although most of you like to think it is.

sodapop Sat 18-Apr-20 16:52:18

I agree quizqueen I am far from being a fan of the man but there is often some truth in his comments. There are many people who agree with him about WHO.

rosecarmel Sat 18-Apr-20 18:00:44

There is no "one size fits all" approach-

Each state government assessed their vulnerabilities, strengths and damage-

Once done, it was reported to the federal government-

Each state was then declared a disaster by the federal government- The declaration allows the release of federal funds and assistance-

That's how it works, by law-

Nowhere in legislation does it state "my way or the highway"-

From the onset, Trumps concerns have been himself, the economy and bailing out corporations- In that order-

rosecarmel Sat 18-Apr-20 18:04:19

The WHO is corrupt- So is China-

Lucca Sat 18-Apr-20 18:46:47

Quiz queen are you a “trumpette” ?

vampirequeen Sat 18-Apr-20 21:31:00

Just the WHO and China? Are all other governments and organisations whiter than white?

Evoha16 Sat 18-Apr-20 21:53:05

I wholeheartedly agree - let’s petition the NZ government

rosecarmel Sun 19-Apr-20 00:19:00

There isn't enough room to list every organization, country county, village and holler that's corrupt .. smile

rosecarmel Sun 19-Apr-20 00:37:52

Trump and his entire Coronavirus task force lie during their daily briefings-

It all began with: Your chances of contracting the virus remain low-

Now they stand there and insist there's enough testing, enough medical equipment-

There isn't-
