I saw two items from America on Facebook yesterday. The first was about a young Hispanic lady, married to a white man. She was stopped in the street by a cop who insisted on doing a thorough check to see if she was an illegal immigrant. Why was he suspicious? Because she was talking to her young daughter in Spanish. This wasn't near the Mexican border, but in the north.
The second item was written by a black man. He says that the only way he can go for a neighbourhood walk without getting white people eyeing him suspiciously is to take with him his little daughter and his small dog. He loves birds, but can't go bird-watching without people thinking that he is up to no good. This is just because he is 6'2" well-built, and black.
A huge proportion of the prison population in the USA is non-white, and apparently many of them are innocent - 'stitched up' by the police for an easy conviction.
There are quite a lot of racial problems here in the UK, and the police are often accused of bias against black people. Thank heavens, though, they can't get away with blatant murder in full view of the public.
