All the family and those who marry into the family get

It’s been a while so I will start us off…….whats for supper and why?
US troops forced to act on the ground?
Voting. I’m so glad we still have the ‘old fashioned’ system…
I would have applauded this speech had Meghan been an A list celebrity in her own right and not used her marriage to a member of the RF as a leg up on to the platform she now occupies.
Now she's back in LA where she always wanted to be, she's in the thick of massive racist issues involving violent demonstrations. It seems it was ever thus in the USA.
I couldn't help thinking back to her self pitying comments about racism in the UK. Now we're caught up in the turmoil caused by an act of racist violence in her own country where she fled to 'escape' her unfair treatment over here.

While those are unkind and prejudice, there is a difference from racism.
Also, what’s your point? We were discussing Meghan (whose name you categorically refuse to spell correctly, wether out if unkindness or prejudice I am unsure).
No one said Kate didn’t receive unkind press.

The woman you so admire, Candace Owens, apparently derided the "hero worship" of George Floyd and said he was a criminal who put black people to shame.
My understanding is that he was found in possession of a counterfeit twenty dollar note, one of many reported to have been circulating in the neighbourhood. We do not know if he was a criminal - if you were found with a counterfeit twenty pound note would that mean you were party to the counterfeiting operation and distribution, or were aware the note was a fake?
Anyway, I find that quite irrelevant. Even if Floyd was known to the police as a habitual criminal and he was suspected of knowingly passing a counterfeit note, does that in any way justify his murder .... his neck being knelt on for 9 minutes, until he was dead, even when he and the crowd were calling out for the "torture" (for that is surely what it was) to stop?
I find Owens' and your comments appalling.
As to the original post about Meghan Markle, why was there such a different attitude displayed towards her, as compared to Kate Middleton, in much of the mainstream press:
Daily Mail:
"Not long to go! Pregnant Kate tenderly cradles her bump ......"
"Why can't Meghan Markle keep her hands off her bump? ...... Is it pride or vanity?"
"Kate's morning sickness cure? Prince William gifted with an avocado for pregnant Duchess."
"Meghan Markle's beloved avocado linked to human rights abuses and drought millenial shame."
(Note the way the two women are referred to - one in affectionate terms "Kate", the other not so chummy "Meghan Markle".)
Some might say there is nothing to suggest that this apparent underlying animosity was racially motivated - and no doubt some people just genuinely didn't take to her. However, as soon as the relationship between Harry and Meghan became more serious there certainly seemed to be a fixation on her ethnic and cultural origins, and many references to the 150 year gap that had elapsed between black people as slaves and Meghan Markle joining the royal family. An article in The Atlantic this year commented:
"This new valorization of Kate is racially inflected, because Britain’s most durable template of respectable womanhood—the “English rose”—is much less accessible to anyone foreign or dark-skinned.* The language used to indicate Meghan’s blackness has been noted by some writers, even as it fails to register with many white Britons: She is “exotic,” “urban,” “straight outta Compton.” The author Afua Hirsch told NPR that mixed-race people see in the coverage of Meghan “very colonial narratives about how we should be so grateful that we were allowed in.”
*Indeed, I recall someone on Gransnet referring, in I believe a discussion about the Harry/Meghan relationship, to Kate Middleton as a "real", or possibly "true" English Rose".
Well I read both of those articles. The first illustrated vividly how the RF responded to any criticism of Kate ( did they contradict the DM about gang torn Compton?). The second was a piece praising her working class roots which glossed over an illegitimate child and other family secrets. They actually confirm the fact that the RF failed to support MM. and the press was allowed to print anything they chose to, and they chose racial slurs.

Here is another article, one that even explains how calling her Me-ghan is an attempt to undermine her and compare her to the “angry black woman” meme we all know.
For those here, the dislike may not be racially motivated, but again, that doesn’t mean it didn’t exist.

Do you have concrete evidence of these racist comments? Newspapers, magazines, speeches anything really? If you have do tell, because neither I or anyone I know, or anything I've read, have ever uttered one racist comment concerning her!
Horrible people on various forums or whatever often make vile comments about the RF, the D's of Cornwall and Cambridge in particular have come in for a lot of this. Even the Queen is called derogatory names by some. Its all part of the territory of being part of the RF, but mainstream media and the public at large were not racist toward MM, unless you can prove differently.
I’m sure you’ll argue the point, but sure, here’s one.

I am so horrified at the emergence of racism in its many form. Some are just really nasty and overt, however, so may are not, just a feeling of 'them and us'. Many of my ex-colleagues and friends (British people of colour), are experiencing this, either themselves, or their children, for the first time. Seems somehow permission has been given for this type of hate.
Anyone.....anyone at all who will speak against it, will have my support. I am an ardent republican, and have never taken the slightest interest in marriages, affairs, births, etc of the RF. Anyone asks me I always say that I think of them as often and as much as they think of me!!!
However, in Trumps' USA if is brave to speak out against the rampant racism her supports. So this woman was invited to speak at her old school - not an unusual invite for someone who has been in a successful tv series. And, yes, she is a media 'star', so her speech was going to be of interest to a wider audience.
I do not really know oare how she was treated when in UK, she is part of the priviledged classes these days, too much money, too much fame, too little responsibilities. But, I am still grateful to her for speaking out,and do not understand why anyone could oppose what she said.
Jabberwok From the Washington Post article I gave the link to British racism is often coy and coded, but when it comes to Meghan there was no need to read between the lines. The hate was in the headlines, which referred to the Los Angeles neighborhood where she grew up as “gang-scarred” and her role editing a racially diverse edition of Vogue as “divisive.”
I love the description of British racism as "coy and coded" perhaps that is why some people don't see it.
Yes I replied to that post Lucca
‘You are not but you look that way’ , not a yes or no was it ?
My post 14.03. Annie
And trisher’s comment on posters being ‘nasty, embittered
old crones’ Lucca ?
Merlotgran, we would not have heard her speech if she had not been able to take advantage of the platform she now has access to, so if the message she gave is in essence a message of positivity why can’t folks just accept it at face value even or especially if she was able to do so because of her ‘now position ’ ?
“ it has been reported “
Absolute 100% fact then.
And your comment Annie about “a crush on Meghan” ??
MaizieD so I’m presuming you didn’t agree with what she was actually saying? I think whether she is right or left if it’s the truth what does it matter. I think listening is the key, not labelling.
Racism alert!
It has been reported that, in the past, Meghan often ticked the Caucasian box when applying for acting and other jobs. Now, she's black so she can claim the British hated her and were racist.
All these people who say they know she wasn’t subjected to racism.
How do you ‘know’? You cannot know. But you prefer to believe she’s lying? Of course you do.
Do you have concrete evidence of these racist comments? Newspapers, magazines, speeches anything really? If you have do tell, because neither I or anyone I know, or anything I've read, have ever uttered one racist comment concerning her!

Lucca you are sure posters who criticise Megan are not
nasty, embittered old crones, but they look that way ?
If it walks like a duck etc .
I thought you were above insults , my mistake

Meghan was not subjected to racism in the UK! She was made more than welcome both by the RF who bent over backwards to welcome her and make her part of the family. The public and media went overboard to welcome her, where does anyone think those cheering crowds came from? She was a 36 year old divorcee and a working actress, hardly a young innocent abroad! She must have been perfectly aware of what joining the RF would mean, and if she didn't she should have made it her business to find out and that no one would or could change their way of doing things particularly while the Queen was alive! Perhaps her husband should have made that clear to her!, You'll get luxury, privilege, servants bowing and scraping, in fact a life that the rest of us could only dream of, some at taxpayers expense!! BUT, and there is a but, in exchange for this charmed life, you also have royal duties and hierarchy within the family to cope with, some of which must be crucifyingly boring, and tedious. This is what Meghan couldn't or wouldn't cope with, nothing to do with racism.
Irrespective of what she could or couldn’t deal with with the royal family, she was at the end of a lot of racist comments. I’m always shocked how people refuse to admit that, Even when presented with proof.
Saying that people were racist towards her is not saying the whole country is racist, or that anyone on these threads is racist. It’s saying that she received a lot of racist backlash. I do not understand why there is a refusal to accept that.
I’m sure GN posters aren’t embittered old crones really but thread after thread criticising Meghan, (no not just expressing disapproval of her behaviour ,)and criticising her for whatever she does Make them look a bit that way.....
