The govt (aka B Johnson & Cummings) want us to go out to pubs and celebrate the end of "our long national hibernation" . It's our "patriotic duty".

2 pint glasses (or possibly 1 litre) are to be introduced so that trips to the bar won't be quite so frequent. Are the loos going to open? How can people keep 1 metre apart in confined spaces, especially the mens' loos. But they can pee in the bushes. Imagine walking the dog past a pub garden in the morning.

I suspect BJ and DC think that if they keep providing little treats, we'll soon forget what has happened. The fact is, 65,700 people have died and they were friends, family, neighbours and colleagues and they will be missed.

This inept government are solely responsible for this. No doubt some of you will point to silly people not obeying the rules, which weren't particularly clear in the first place.

However, the govt are the ones setting the agenda and who are responsible for telling the various agencies what to do and to ensure that they have the means to do this. The govt have fallen short in many respects. their failures have been listed elsewhere on this site so I don't need to repeat them.

Some people will say that many of those who died had underlying health conditions. But most people with long term illnesses take regular medication which controls their disease. A study back in April (from Glasgow University) said that most people who died of covid could have had another 10 years or so life left to them.

The govt have an 80 seat majority so the opposition can do little. Perhaps it's time to contact your local MP to let you views be heard. I'm a Labour supporter and there's not much that those of us on the left can do. But those of you with decent Tory MPs can do something so that when Johnson loses interest, or is kicked out, we can have an honourable PM - plus the benefit of losing DC and with a bit of luck, most of the Cabinet.

Janpt - what about Corbyn and his friends? What have they got do do with this?

In case you're not up to date with current affairs, they are out of it. They and their ilk may grumble a lot about their sweetheart having been chucked out of the Shadow Cabinet recently but Corbyn is no longer Leader of the Opposition and not even in the Shadow Cabinet.

It's Cummings and Johnson (in that order) who are in charge now.

I would love to be as patriotic as Patel and her husband.

Her husband is claim £25000 a year from us as he reckons he runs Patel’s private office. He also has a full time job and is a local councillor. No doubt he claims various expenses from that little number as well.

Nice work if you can get it.

Nepotism is rife in Westminster, with many wives being given these jobs ( whether they actually do the jobs or not) also sons and daughters. They all do it! Singling out Patel is pointless until they change the rules on this.I think they should.

Boris certainly comes out with good phrases, celebrate the end of our long national hibernation "It's our patriotic duty. So everyone is supposed to get down to the pub on Saturday night because that is what he is telling us to do. The same as he told everyone to go out and enjoy the sunshine maybe go to the beach. We all saw what happened at the beaches without any social distancing. It is not my patriotic duty to get to the pub on 4th July and I will not be going. I expect we will see scenes on our T. V. screens by Sunday morning of anti-social behaviour which will then be described as the "minority" that wanted to ruin things.
I still feel confusion as the only places I see any signs we still are living in coronavirus times are the local shops and large supermarkets who still have security on the doors and keep orderly queues formed and we have to follow the arrows around the shopping area although they may as well give up as everywhere else people do as they like.
Look at Leicester they knew 11 days ago that there was a big spike in rising numbers but still waited and waited until they finally took action. The Mayor is still vexed about it as he said there was nothing wrong in Leicester.
These are the sort of leaders that are supposedly taking charge of this pandemic and as the health organisers and many scientists still warn us we are still living with the timebomb of coronavirus. God help us.

He continuously overpromises and underdelivers. That hasn't changed.

I believe some pubs are not opening on Saturday because they know it will be chaos. They are waiting for a midweek evening to try out the social distancing measures. Boris & Cummings will either be dining in some posh resteraunt or quaffing wine (probably French) at home.

I dread the opening of the pubs too Trisher. Even Andy Capp would be intimidated.
Although thinking about it, there's only one pub near where we live. Several have already closed down, or sold for conversion to other use.

Patriotic duty?
Perhaps they should lead by example and not have one rule for them and another for us
