Well, I am of the opinion that there isn’t any real point or meaning in all the pronouncements coming thick and fast starblaze and rosecarmel.If there was, you would be saying so.

However, if people in a discussion are focused on twisting what I say or assigning meaning to my words that aren't there, or just generally looking for ways to shut me down personally it becomes pointless for me.

Come on Starblaze that's neither true nor fair! A discussion goes both ways and when someone, anyone, makes a statement of opinion it's not unreasonable for other people to ask for clarification. No one is trying to "shut you down" or "twisting" anything and it's disingenuous to suggest that.

What on earth are these people on about. All you Karen’s be proud, we don’t have to follow America, what a lot of rubbish, be careful, soon we will be blamed for what we are thinking.

Is it only white women who make false accusations against black people? In the case of the man stencilling "Black Lives Matter" on the wall of his property, there were two people involved - a husband and a wife. Although the wife was the person who primarily spoke to the householder, she was backed up by her husband. Presumably she had the idea that her carefully mannered, patronising tone and her frequent use of the word "sir" to address the householder would demonstrate what a cultured and reasonable person she was. I don't know how that householder kept his cool - underneath it all he must have been fuming but he dealt with the situation brilliantly.

What this couple and other people have done is despicable but why give this sort of behaviour a woman's name? I think it is cruel and misogynistic. Primarily, though, it turns the issue of racism into a sort of cartoon character (and a female one at that) and in so doing trivialises a very serious issue.

rosecarmel I expect police time is wasted in a lot of different ways and should be punished. However, these particular examples of wasting police time have a strong racial dimension and should be called out for what they are - racism in action. It, in effect, reinforces and takes advantage of a racist stereotype to target an individual or group, thus having the potential to put them in a very dangerous situation.

It's an ongoing process and currently while the tides for change are running high every opportunity to make a difference is being taken advantage of and I don't mean take advantage in a bad way-

Karen might fall by the wayside and be referred to as something else in time- But everything is happening so fast and it's more important to get the law in place than what to call it-

The stimulus package/s is/was a cluster-f***- And unemployment- Celebrities filed for small business loans and received millions .. while millions struggle to feed their families- Moratoriums to protect renters and home owners are being lifted which could result in 28 million homeless people and about 30% of restaurants across the country are expected to close permanently- Cases of covid are rising- And rabid racists are crawling out of the woodwork ..

It's really a huge mess .. Karen is the least of my concerns .. but only at the moment ..

That's not at all predictable. How many times have we heard this. Be quiet women, it's not the right time, your needs are not important.
I am able to have concern about racism, unemployment and call out misogyny when I see it.

KAREN, a term used by some to describe women who display privileged, overbearing or racist behaviour (which is a problem among women that we need to address to make it go away) which is obviously quite unfair to nice women named Karen.

CAREN, an act to make it a criminal offence to call the police unjustly on individuals who are breaking no laws or simply existing in spaces they have every right to be in. Which is a positive thing and not a negative.

That would be good except their is no "Caren" movement. It is actually known as "Karen", not Caren. And the definition of "a Karen" is:

Karen is a pejorative term used in the United States and other English-speaking countries for a woman perceived to be entitled or demanding beyond the scope of what is considered appropriate or necessary. A common stereotype is that of a racist white woman who uses her privilege to demand her own way at the expense of others. So the use of this term is pejorative against those women who happen to be called Karen; is misogynistic and unfairly racially profiles white, middle aged women. Not much to like about it really.

I don't believe it profiles white middle aged women in general Chewbacca just a certain type of woman I personally don't want to be associated with, although I would never use that term to discribe them.

Well, the criteria for "being a Karen" is fairly extensive, according to the direct quote:

Demanding
Middle aged
Having a "particular hairstyle"

That's fairly generic, wouldn't you say?

Not if you aren't entitled or demanding, or do you believe most women are Chewbacca?

So of the 6 so called characteristics, you've picked up on 2 negative stereotypes?
I believe that there are as many "entitled or demanding" women as there are "entitled or demanding" men, Starblaze. Some of them are white. Some of them have their hair cut in a particular style. And some of them are called Karen. Or Susan. Or Bill.
But to selectively identify a whole demographic of white femails, of a particular age, is misogynistic, offensive and lazy. And I find it depressingly sad that another middle aged woman cannot see that.

I can see there is a problem with a certain type of women Cheebacca who believes they are deserving of special treatment and that they are generally more important than others. They believe they should be listened to above others and their opinion is the be all and end all on every conversation. They also seem to believe they are above telling the truth or any kind of morals to get their own way.

Calling them Karen's is not OK but that sort of woman lets the rest of us down and that sort of behaviour should be called out clearly.

I can see there is a problem with a certain type of women. There certainly is Starblaze! But the problem with lumping white, middle aged women, who display less than attractive traits, into one huge homogeneous mass and then labelling them "Karen", is divisive, misogynistic, sexist, unfair and counter productive.

It is feminism to say that I believe in equal rights and opportunities for everyone.

These women we are speaking of do not believe in equal rights or oportunity as they clearly demonstrate

From the definition given about ‘Karens’ it seems they (middle aged to older white women)are being talked about in a way that for any other group you could mention would be considered outrageous.

As I said previously, this extremely stupid idea of using a woman's (and in some cultures a man's) name to typify a group of women with a racist, histrionic personality disorder is not only very wrong, it detracts from the serious issues at stake.

It's hardly ever a mams name, it's always a womans.
