Johnson doesn’t appear to read anything. He leaves that to the grownups.

King Cummings only reads his own stuff as nothing else is worth reading, which means that as King Cummings gets rid of the experts, like the civil servants, the Chiefs of Staff etc, more and more decisions will be made by one person who likes to pretend he is ultra intelligent but is really a sociopath with anarchic tendencies.

I so agree, I think he’s getting more like Trump every time I see him.

Just a different accent.

But quite honestly he is beginning to appear as dim as Trump which surprises me.

Wasn't it reported a while back, when he became PM, that Boris requested simplified, easy-to-read versions of any such reports/documents - or did I dream that?

Perhaps he's having to wait for the the newspapers to publish such a version for him, one that he can understand !

You're right, MamaCaz. I saw it reported that when he went on his little holiday to Chevening in February (the holiday during which he missed a COBRA meeting or two about a developing pandemic) civil servants were told to summarise all papers on no more than an A4 sheet as he wouldn't read anything longer.

I'd assumed that that instruction only applied to his holiday period but, who knows, it could be the norm...

Isn’t that because he’s PRIME Minister? He has a team of other Ministers alongside him. If personally he read (fully) every piece of information he’d have no time to eat or sleep!

Why?

It’s a mystery to me why when Boris graduated from Oxford with a degree in Classical Languages and is fluent in several languages, he performs so badly. It’s not just since he was ill, last autumn it was clear that he was just the puppet, blustering his way through with catchy slogans like “Get Brexit done”. He doesn’t seem to care about preparation or the consequences of what he says, that’s someone else’s responsibility.

It’s his lack if responsibility that is his failing, in his private as well as political life that is concerning and it looks to be getting worse week by week, now he is accountable he can’t cope.

Strange then that he’s such a popular man (with some) and he cheers us up. Unlike others. Too much gloom and doom can’t be good for one’s health!

ug you are trying to excuse his clear lack of understanding or ability to get on top of any brief.

I commend to you Margaret Thatcher, well any recent prime minister with perhaps the exception of Cameron, all were on top of their brief. All could come to parliament and you would be confident that they knew what they were talking about and there was an element of trust in their statement in which with the odd exception you knew to be true. Even if you disagreed with the thrust of their argument.

Johnson never seems to know anything about what he is asked. Constantly lies, and is not trusted by a large percentage of the population.

I wondered when that argument would come up Urm and nearly added ‘and don’t say it’s because he has others to do that’.

No. He is the PM. It is his duty. This is not an episode of ‘Yes, Prime Minister!’

He's already contributed to the deaths of 60,000 people. They're predicting 120,000 this winter. POSSIBLY the man in charge should read about it?

He already said he is aware of it.
He does have a Minister at the helm of every department.
He’s not daft - seen as lazy perhaps - but I’m one amongst many who are happy with what he’s doing in very difficult times. He’s had C-19 himself, unlike the majority of us, so he has first hand knowledge of how awful it can be.
I trust him (and the SAGE advisers) to be discussing all the necessary precautions to keep us safe.

He's even too lazy to make up decent jibes - jokes about Calvin Klein's are as old as the hills. He alludes to Starmer being a lawyer at every opportunity, as though it's something to belittle.

Every time we see Johnson it's obvious that he's winging-it and has no capacity for detail or strategic thinking. He doesn't stand up to scrutiny - he's never been subjected to a detailed interrogation by a serious journalist.

Remember how he flatly refused to be interviewed by Andrew Neil before the election?

Buying a handful of loyal supporters a box set of Johnson's TV appearances as an entitled raconteur would have been less damaging for the country.

Johnson's personal ratings have plummeted in the last few weeks. He has surrounded himself with nodding dogs, who must constitute the most talentless cabinet in my memory.

On what basis can you trust him to be discussing precautions in a meaningful way? SAGE has been sidelined now, after so many of them spoke out. The government's response is being led by the Joint Biosecurity Centre, whose agenda and minutes aren't published. There is precious little "science" in any of the announcements being made.

And now the BBC has axed Andrew Neil!

I fail to understand why anyone trusts Boris. I hated Margaret Thatcher and her principles but her dedication and commitment couldn't be questioned. Boris was an amusing and entertaining panellist on HIGNFY but making him PM was ridiculous. As for his illness I suspect the only thing resulting from that is a belief that he is better, stronger and more worthy of survival than the rest of us.
I do like the "Dead Ringers" depiction of him where "Bad Boris"keeps escaping.
