If you think that the RF are costing too much, just compare France, think of the Champs Elysées and the Hôtel de Matignon. How many people go to visit them and how many people visit Buckingham Palace.
It isn’t just the French President who is paid but also previous French presidents who are also housed, have people working for them, including two drivers and free transportation etc. Some of this is passed onto their widows. Moreover the presidential elections are held every few years. Therefore the Prefects are changed, housing interiors are refurbished, all costing money (granted they can chose from a huge warehouse). There are always scandales somewhere popping up.

If there wasn’t Buckingham Palace where would those huge official dinners and parties be held?

I think you'll find that H&M have caused a lot of of offense and heartache certainly to their families particularly Harry's elderly grandparents and his over generous father. Disappointed and let down the R.M, Invictus games, the people of Africa whom he purported to care so much about, the people of this country by calling us racists, so much so that they had to flee!! The quiet private life was a fabrication, the list is endless. Frankly if we never had to see or hear from these two self centred greedy patronising low lifes, it would be too soon!

Callistemon Mon 28-Sept-20 18:57:10

I'm a fairly moderate old crone and I'm relaxed about the status quo which I prefer to a presidential system.

If your posts werent quite so full of prejudice, hatred and lies, grany, I might be more interested in them.

I really wouldn't think I could speak for the people of Africa or even for the Invictus games. As for families I think all families have their problems some try to present a frontage which says everything is OK, whist all sorts of animosity goes on in the background, others try to face their problems. One common theme is that in a family with problems one member is labelled as the bad element, and the source of all the conflict. What emeges is that when that member is removed the conflict continues, and another member is then labelled as the bad one.

It would be a democratically elected Head of State something like in Ireland Not France or USA

More people visit France palace of Versailles than Uk

So RF don't bring in tourists don't work hard
Can't stop Johnson and his government breaking rules

So what is the point of them?

newsthump.com/2020/09/25/queen-so-impoverished-her-diamonds-now-only-get-polished-twice-a-week-claim-palace-insiders/?fbclid=IwAR28tf6Jzk7XqDcUN6yr05n_kPZp13px2WTqjq55sGF6U_l0CvD3PneS6CA

Callistemon I don't agree with your opinion of my posts they are not lies.

Surely anyone who use their dead mother to make money has to be some sort of creep? Still more so if the outfit that is generating this money is about to launch a musical depicting this 'beloved' mother in a less than flattering way, but there you go Diana will be a money spinner so I suppose Harry feels he might as well cash in! Too bad if his brother is hurt, who cares about that so long as the millions of dollars keep coming!

Callistemon Mon 28-Sept-20 19:37:09

Grany I should have said your links are a variation of the facts. The facts can be checked.

News Thump

The collapse of income from her £400 million property portfolio has left the monarch so cash-strapped she is reduced to eating cold swan for lunch and using her racehorses to pull her carriage, according to royal correspondents this morning.

Beatrice Despenser-Westerly, royal correspondent for the Telegraph, explained that she was fearful for the financial well being of a woman who gets £80 million a year to wave at awestruck simpletons.

She went on, “Her Majesty has always been a trooper and you won’t hear her complain, but those of us who know her because our family tree is also a bamboo can see just how dire things are.

“Her valets tell us how they have had to buy lesser grades of beef fillet for her 45 dogs, and she is only using the two Rolls-Royce’s with the modern, more efficient engines.

I myself was in Sandringham last week to talk about some lovely afternoons killing animals for fun and I could see the dust that had built up on the dozens of Old Master paintings she owns and with which she could fund a small town council for a decade if she sold one of them. I do hope the government will help out.”

Ms Despenser-Westerly’s belief that the government should help had great support among ordinary fans of the monarchy.

In Hastings a, retired joiner with eyes oddly close together, Simon Williams, said it was a crying shame the Queen might have to stop giving palaces to her grandchildren this year.

“My children are going to lose their jobs and public services around here have collapsed, but I’m adamant that a woman who wouldn’t piss on me if I was on fire is not forced to make any concession whatsoever in her obscenely expensive lifestyle.

“I knows my place.”

Anniebach Mon 28-Sept-20 19:47:35

Good grief Jabber there is going to be a musical about Diana ?

trisher Mon 28-Sept-20 19:48:00

This is a long report but so interesting. www.republic.org.uk/sites/default/files/Royal-Expenses-Report-2017_0.pdf
One of the factors discussed is how a Head of State could at times of national crisis have spoken out, inspiring and supporting national interests. It is I think especially interesting now when a Head of State speaking out might have provided a voice of support and encouragement which could have helped prevent the spread of Covid.

Ellianne Mon 28-Sept-20 19:52:51

mokryna have you any idea of the value of the wine stashed in the caves of the Elysée Palace!!
I went to dinner there once, mon Dieu!! wine wine hic hic

Jaberwok Mon 28-Sept-20 20:04:08

Apparently Netflix will premiere Diana the musical prior to it opening on Broadway on May 25th 2021. It is said, among other things, to show the late Princess in bed with James Hewitt!! Nice one Harry!!

annep1 Mon 28-Sept-20 20:16:26

I hate the fact that so many people are in need in this country and that one family is kept in such luxury by the taxpayer, never wanting or needing anything for their physical comfort, never having to wait for medical attention. Eating the best food from places like F&M while some struggle to buy from the cheapest food shops. Yes, other people live like this, but we don't fund them. It doesn't matter what happens in other countries. That is not relevant And this family knows the struggles that the ordinary people have. It is morally wrong. And it is within their power to change it.

Anniebach Mon 28-Sept-20 20:27:19

Jaber how awful, and Harry signed up with Netflix, hypocrite .

Grany Mon 28-Sept-20 20:31:09

Well Said annepl

trisher Mon 28-Sept-20 20:31:16

Ah but you will all watch it!

annsixty Mon 28-Sept-20 20:54:38

Not me!!

Jaberwok Mon 28-Sept-20 21:09:46

I certainly won't be! We haven't got Netflix for a start, but I wouldn't anyway. Tacky American rubbish isn't for me and certainly not for Mr J!

Lexisgranny Mon 28-Sept-20 21:15:55

Sweeping statements such as that trisher certainly weaken your argument.

Ellianne Mon 28-Sept-20 21:24:04

It doesn't matter what happens in other countries. That is not relevant.
Maybe not, but comparisons serve to illlustrate thst even without a RF and even after an "off with their heads revolution", there will always be the haves and the have nots.

trisher Mon 28-Sept-20 21:53:48

Oh come on Lexisgranny anything linked with the RF, scandal or any other factor in their lives is the subject of all sorts of media productions and people lap them up. If they didn't no one would bother making them.

Jaberwok Mon 28-Sept-20 22:04:01

Americans certainly will, not so sure about here though. Maybe Europe, though I'm not sure that they're that
interested! As for the rest of the world? Who knows! It'll make money for sure which should please PH and MM!

Anniebach Mon 28-Sept-20 22:12:15

Meg has said she has no intention of returning to acting, how
can she return, she hasn’t stopped

annep1 Mon 28-Sept-20 22:17:04

there will always be the haves and the have nots
Ellianne true but not relevant to my post.

Grany thanks. For me the issue is simple.

Lexisgranny Mon 28-Sept-20 22:19:06

trisher However you try to dress it up, that remark was addressed to those on this platform whose views do not coincide with yours. I agree that some people will watch it, but to say “you will all watch it” is a sweeping statement unworthy of someone familiar with debating. There is really nothing more to say.
