Israeli forces leave 41 children homeless after razing Palestinian village, UN says

Demolitions used as a ‘key means’ to ‘coerce Palestinians to leave their homes’

Denouncing this is not antisemitic.

I too have found this shocking along with the wall to separate the Palestinians. Denouncing a crime is not anti-Semitic.

Iam64 Thu 05-Nov-20 08:49:42

Who has claimed denouncing this is antisemitic?

Nortsat Thu 05-Nov-20 08:52:34

Yes Biba and Dragonfly it’s heart breaking.

The press amongst others conflate criticism of the Isreali state as anti-Semitic just as they conflate Marxism with left wing social democrats such as Mr Corbyn.

Isreali violence against the Palestinians has been going on since Isreal was formed after WW2. Isreal has taken land from the Palestinian people since this time with gradual expansion.

I find it so difficult to understand why, after the Holocaust that they would treat others as they themselves have been treated.

It's incomprehensible that the World doesn't see how evil this is. Why is it quietly ignored?!

Jane10, how can you say this evil is quietly ignored. There's a detailed report from the Guardian above. The plight of the Palestinian people is discussed frequently at my LP meetings. Conflating criticism of the Israeli government with anti semitism as you just did "it's actually making me antisemitic" is at best very unpleasant.
The focus on oppressive behaviour by Israel often goes hand in hand with ignoring the extremely oppressive behaviour of other states in the Middle East.

trisher Thu 05-Nov-20 10:13:52

It may be being discussed but anyone who can't see that the demonisation of Corbyn had much to do with his Palestinian sympathies is fooling themselves. The evil is quietly ignored because the UN rulings are not acted on and this is never publicised. At the same time Hezbolah which may have started as a terrorist organisation, but has like many others evolved and developed a political wing, continues to be demonised. What is the standard response to anyone who cares to point out how distressed this makes them and how much they try to balance their reactions, giving Israel more leeway than they would to any other country?- they are accused of being antisemitic. Other states in the Middle East may be oppressive but they do not have the political leverage that Israel has and although they may not treat their own citizens with the degree of human rights we would want, they are not actually invading and oppressing the citizens of another country.

tickingbird Thu 05-Nov-20 10:17:40

Kuwait? Iran?

suziewoozie Thu 05-Nov-20 10:34:52

I agree with those saying it is being ignored - it is, fundamentally. Coverage in the Guardian or the odd item on C4 news is hardly going to influence events is it? It’s heartbreaking and the plight of the Palestinian people goes back much further than 1967. They’ve really been the scapegoats haven’t they for assuaging the collective guilt of the world over anti semitism and especially the Holocaust.

Jane10 Thu 05-Nov-20 10:39:54

I agree with Trisher

trisher Thu 05-Nov-20 10:44:10

tickingbird Have Iran actuallyinvaded anyone? They were attacked by Iraq in the 80s and have been involved in the battle against ISIL but only I believe at the invitation of another country. Of course the man masterminding this was killed by the US.
Kuwait along with Saudi Arabia have been destroying Yemen but Labour MPs have tried to stop the UK supplying weapons to them so the situation isn't being ignored completely although I will agree that the UK government are once again turning a blind eye to it

I can understand it. The State of Israel pressures and pesters governments and funds shills that can influence public debate. It intimidates, menaces and pressures the mainstream media who dutifully observe Omerta for a quiet life. Its PR organisation is very effective in ensuring specific narratives are allowed and viciously 'delegitimises' certain others. I can understand it because something similar is happening at the moment with 'transgender' ideology and its attack on the biological sexes. Same M.O.

I'm a member of a Scottish Pro Palestinian group .When we march there are many of the Scottish Jewish community who march with us .
ANTI Israel is not anti semitic
.Its anti injustice for people who have lived in that area for a thousand years or more who are being taken from their homes and the homes destroyed by an invasive state who it appears has the world on its side .There is little or nothing in the media about this ,despite the non compliance of Israel to UN resolutions .We who do nothing are as guily as those who stood by when Hitler targetted the Jews .It always amazes me that a people who DID suffer as they have done are happy to make their neighbours suffer for the decades they have been Surely the people of Israel cant support this ethnic cleansing of Palestinians?

It suits the West to keep Israel strong and onside as it is one of the main Western footholds in the Middle East. In order to do this they will protect Israel and overlook its treatment of the Palestinians. Sadly Western governments only care about the mistreatment of minorities if it is to our advantage to call it out. Also many fundamentalist Christians believe that Israel needs to be only a Jewish homeland in order to fulfil part of Revelations so they accept the treatment of the Palestinians as a necessary pre-courser to the Rapture.

Who has claimed denouncing this is antisemitic?

No one yet - but denouncing Israel is often accused as being latent anti-Semitism.

The Israeli state gets away with murder - remember it's only a few years ago that thousands died in Gaza under an Israeli bombardment, described by surgeon David Nott, who was there at the time, as apocalyptic.

tickingbird Thu 05-Nov-20 13:11:37

Trisher Iraq invaded Kuwait and Iran and also attacked Israel with scud missiles during the Gulf War which had nothing to do with Israel.

Davidhs Thu 05-Nov-20 13:28:38

The state of Israel is a fact of life - that’s not going to change. They are supported by the US - that’s not going to change.
Even Egypt leaves them alone despite ideological hostility

Why, when the whole Middle East is in chaos Israel is untouched?. Because they have powerful military forces and will defend the homeland to the last man. Although it has never been confirmed or denied, they have nuclear weapons, nobody doubts they would use them if pushed.

tickingbird Thu 05-Nov-20 13:31:34

Criticism of Israel is acceptable but this constant drip, drip, drip of antisemitism towards Jews all over the world is not.

I find it interesting and depressingly predictable that scratch the surface of most ‘liberals’ and you’ll find an anti semite.
