Desperately keeping Cummings (sorry)

Fight with Carrie. One aide has left. Cummings threatening to walk out (let him go was the cry!). But still. Why is she interfering? They're bad enough without WAGS getting involved.

He wrote he'd like to build the kind of team and operation that makes him "largely redundant" by Christmas.

That sounds very worrying.
The country being run by a team of Cummings Clones.

Cummings always said he would leave late this year, but no doubt Lee Cain leaving has cemented it.Hopefully there are better special advisors out there.Am amazed that no newspapers are using the headline ‘Cummings Is Goings’?
From the Tony Blair years onwards the country has been more run by Downing St with the PM and advisors, T May almost lost that particular election by working with advisors and freezing out the Cabinet.

No that is wrong what Cummings actually said was

“He didn't write he'd be leaving by Christmas.

He wrote he'd like to build the kind of team and operation that makes him "largely redundant" by Christmas.

Who looking at No. 10 right now thinks it's a well oiled machine ready to run itself”.?

Carrie isn’t married to the PM as far as we know. She had an affair with him while he was still married and his wife was having cancer treatment.

Gagajo I expect when you retire from teaching you will still care about it. I'm no Carrie Symonds fan, or a fan of anyone connected to this government but, she worked in politics. She married the PM and its impossible to believe they don't discuss politics at home. She's bound to have views and why wouldn't she share them with her current partner

Cummings is Going! (sorry) Do you suppose someone has offered him a good deal?

I have just read a few posts now and see we had the same idea
trisher on headlines?

Maybee it’s no good anyone quoting anti-Brexit thoughts from those who wanted to stay in the EU....it’s obvious they would say that.?
More people voted to leave than voted to remain, it was a promise that it would be implemented and it has been ( now!)
That ship has sailed ( hoping to prevent it) and everyone, including Prof Grey has to accept that.By the end of December all negotiations on a trade deal will be done and we can hopefully put all the divisive stuff behind us.

Good piece by Prof Chris Grey which refers to brexit and Cummings. ‘So, as brexit limps on, the unloved orphan of failing populism.....’

starbird I am with you on whether BJ will stay or go in the new year. Just do not see how he will cope without his advisors.

Like rats fleeing a sinking ship. Dominic Cummings has been one of the most malign influences on the British government in modern history. His legacy is one of bullying, deception, hypocrisy and hubris. The super-forecaster who ignored the pandemic. His damage is irreparable.

But never forget it was Johnson who employed him, Johnson oversaw and facilitated his influence. Johnson facilitated his deception and bullying.

The blame lies entirely at Johnson’s door.

Rats leaving the sinking ship comes to mind.

Having pulled out the bung.

I am so relieved Cummings is going. The boisterous Vote Leave "children" are no loss. They will have got what they wanted by the end of the year anyway - especially if there is a No Deal - although I think Cummings had plans to reform the civil service which may have had to take a back seat because of the pandemic.

I read that there are currently about 40 Special Advisers in No.10, so I am sure BJ will find a replacement soon! He'll have to because he has absolutely no ideas of his own. Perhaps this time he'll ensure that they allow his backbenchers access to him occasionally just to keep them sweet.

IMHO BJ has never been PM material. He's been doing what he did as Mayor of London - using teams of advisers and other politicians to do all the hard work and run everything and uses a skilled publicity team to publicise his "achievements" so that he takes all the credit.

This is why Allegra Stratton has been appointed - to hold new daily press briefings trumpeting how wonderful he is.

Why does the saying ' the hand that rocks the cradle' spring to mind after reading about Carrie having an input.
However, if the end result is Cummings leaving I will certainly pleased.

Davidhs Fri 13-Nov-20 09:56:54

Cummings is going, how on earth is BJ going to manage without ideas - or is he just going to let “experts” rule. Don’t write off Gove, Hancock and the rest, they are distancing themselves from the mess to come.

felice Fri 13-Nov-20 09:30:31

Not sure what kind of welcome he would get here in Brussels, we only just got rid of one unpleasant man and not sure if Cummings would be much of an asset.
Who knows perhaps he will need a visa, I wonder what his reaction would be if it was turned down hmmgrin.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 13-Nov-20 09:26:47

The Brexit Queens have had their day. Get rid of Gove and Hancock along with their leader and we can begin to try to make some sense if the mess they have made

Iam64 Fri 13-Nov-20 08:49:02

Sounds like a good plan mcem

mcem Fri 13-Nov-20 08:47:57

Trying (with difficulty) to be objective, I have to say that I wonder why CS shouldn't end her maternity leave and apply for Cain's job.
I don't know if she was sacked from the post and admittedly the idea of yet another unelected influencer is dire but the "nursery" comments are unacceptable.

So now we can cross off Trump, Cain, Cummings and Sutcliffe.
Not bad for Friday 13th!

Galaxy Fri 13-Nov-20 08:47:32

Thinking about it if Johnson had spent more time 'getting back to the nursery' and less time trying to be PM we would all be in a much better situation.

Iam64 Fri 13-Nov-20 08:37:24

Elegran - exactly the comment I made to my sister ten minutes ago.

Elegran Fri 13-Nov-20 08:30:59

Two pieces of good news today - Cummings is leaving and Peter Sutcliffe has died.

Oldbat1 Fri 13-Nov-20 07:52:13

And breathe! Thank goodness. Horrible man with ideas beyond his station. He will be ok though. Lots of family money there.

Lucca Fri 13-Nov-20 07:35:35

Brussels ?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 13-Nov-20 07:35:01

A Tory MP described the whole lot of them as

“They are children, ideologues and self obsessed fools”

The trouble is with children running the show we find ourselves in the worse situation we can possibly imagine.
