The Labour candidate for Hartlepool tweetedyears ago that someone was a MILF. Is he a misogynist or just a badly informed young man, and is he suitable as a Labour candidate?

BigBertha1 Sun 21-Mar-21 10:09:11

Dont know what it means.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 21-Mar-21 10:11:18

MILF another acronym to sexualise women...

kircubbin2000 Sun 21-Mar-21 10:11:31

Is he the one who has that slogan discreetly behind him in his pic? What a creep.

Lucca Sun 21-Mar-21 10:14:44

Definitely not acceptable, especially not in public.

Big Bertha it stands for Mother I’d Like to F.....
I’m assuming used by young men about their friends’ mother.

Pinkarolina Sun 21-Mar-21 10:16:03

BigBerthal, it stands for Mother I’d Like to F***. Like GILF, it sexualises women and is insulting.

Lucca Sun 21-Mar-21 10:17:52

So big Bertha you’ve had two explanations....

Peasblossom Sun 21-Mar-21 10:19:28

How many years ago?

We’d all be in muddle if what we did in our youth was held against us for ever.

Or I would anyway?

I have heard a couple of radio interviews of women mp’s who don’t think he’s suitable and without knowing details, I tend to agree.

Rosie51 Sun 21-Mar-21 10:24:44

Never heard of it before, but no a totally unacceptable acronym. As to the candidate's suitability that would depend on when he tweeted it and if his attitude has since changed.

eazybee Sun 21-Mar-21 10:25:27

It is not an acceptable term.
I didn't know what it meant, looked it up and was directed to several sites for accessing porn, expressed in most unpleasant terms.
It is like somebody said recently, comparing a politician to a man who briefly dropped his trousers in the pub; instantly remedied, but never forgotten.

Calendargirl Sun 21-Mar-21 10:27:52

Reading an article about Adrian Dunbar (Line Of Duty) apparently fans say he is a ‘Dilf’!

“Mother Of God!” as Ted Hastings would say.

?

trisher Sun 21-Mar-21 10:31:26

It was made in 2011. The man who made it is a doctor and has apologised. Although I think the term is unacceptable I am concerned that if we are going to change men's attitudes to women we will need at some point to accept that they can be re-educated and that one tweet doesn't define them for life. If we don't do that what hope is there?

nanna8 Sun 21-Mar-21 10:31:31

Not acceptable at all. Also out of date. I remember hearing of it at least 10 years ago amongst very young males who thought they were smart.

trisher Sun 21-Mar-21 10:32:26

Calendargirl I hadn't heard of that one. It opens up a whole new argument.

Polarbear2 Sun 21-Mar-21 10:33:17

?????????? personally I’d be flattered. Get a life. Ooh young man.

Galaxy Sun 21-Mar-21 10:37:30

I have come to the view that we should not be policing peoples tweets, or that all those in positions of power should not be allowed on Twitter. Or we could get rid of Twitter.

Rosie51 Sun 21-Mar-21 10:38:29

Exactly trisher, if we don't accept someone can apologise and change their attitude then we may as well give up now. 10 years ago is a long time, he's obviously grown up in the interim.

Riverwalk Sun 21-Mar-21 10:42:48

According to Wiki he's 48 so tweeted this when he was 38 - hardly a callow youth at the time and presumably even then was a GP.

I heard Shami Chakrabarti on the news and she was scathing about him and said he had to go,

timetogo2016 Sun 21-Mar-21 10:46:01

The first time i heard MILF was in the film American Pie.

NotSpaghetti Sun 21-Mar-21 10:46:03

This was only ten years ago. He was already a DOCTOR. This is a position of trust.
He wasn't even "chatting to mates" (which would also be horrid). He put it out into the public domain with no shame. I find this sexualisation of women by someone who women may need to confide in totally despicable.

What IS the labour party thinking?

Rosie51 Sun 21-Mar-21 10:48:04

Goodness I assumed he was a student, but 38!! I hope he really has adjusted his attitude.

trisher Sun 21-Mar-21 10:48:50

So what would be an acceptable period of time NotSpaghetti? How do we know when men have been re-educated? Or are they damned forever?

JaneJudge Sun 21-Mar-21 10:48:52

I don't like it but is calling someone a MILF on par with impregnating other women whilst you are married?

GrannyGravy13 Sun 21-Mar-21 10:49:25

That rather changes things in my opinion, he cannot use the i was young and studying argument.

It’s time folks realised that whatever you put on the internet stays there forever!
