Just when you think they can’t sink any lower

As regards finding out how to leave. You stop logging in. I've done it a couple of times, it's very effective.

If you come on the Politics threads, expect a debate, there's no point in complaining if you're in a minority or out-argued. There are lots at threads where you can have a cosy chat. Personally, I like The Terror one. Or Line of Duty.

GransNet hasn’t been a nice place for sometime, hence the loss of many posters who were here from the start.

Well that was certainly true when we had multiple anti- MM threads full of gossip, rumour, speculation and bile. Or did I miss the Christian charity, forgiveness and love with which they were overflowing?

We are only allowed our opinion if it fits with the anti-Conservative rhetoric which has taken over the N & P threads so much so that they are now effectively an echo chamber.

Try starting an SNP thread. Then you'll see venom ?

It wouldn't be the only forum here that is an echo chamber, GrannyGravy13.

It's very sad to see people entrenched in their own beliefs who are so threatened by anyone believing anything differently that they either get abusive, ignore or get offended /angry/upset. In the Estrangement forums, for example "the wounded" are going round in circles of pain and not helping each other but enabling each other to stay the same. It's not a support forum, but a discussion forum for the same few people to chat about their lives.

I won't be silenced by people who try to silence me. Unless I find a way to delete the account, I'll pop up now and then just to be annoying haha.

"I won't be silenced by people who try to silence me. "

Have a wee check of this thread and see who was told to "give it a rest", and by whom.

Clue: it wasn't the Conservatives who were being told to be quiet.

OnwardandUpward Tue 06-Apr-21 08:48:58

It's important that none of us are silenced and all of us are heard. We have all lost enough of our rights and freedoms this year already. We need to fight against anyone who tries to edit us because we will not be edited. We are valid. Our thoughts are valid. Our feelings are valid. Anyone who tries to invalidate those are the ones with a problem.

I suppose there will always be people who aren't tolerant or understanding of anyone who isn't a carbon copy of them (I hope I never become like this) I might have missed something and don't have the time to check back at the moment as I have to go out. Can you message me or quote it please Alegrias1?

Anniebach Tue 06-Apr-21 08:54:15

What’s changed is no longer Is it - attack the post not the poster

GrannyGravy13 Tue 06-Apr-21 08:59:58

Ramadan commences 12/04/2021 no doubt all parties will post messages of support.

Alegrias1 Tue 06-Apr-21 09:11:31

I won't be re-posting OnwardandUpward and I won't be PMing it to you either. Neither of those seem very wise.

Politics threads are very rarely about invalidating people's feelings. They often end up being about pointing things out to people almost ad infinitum when they either fail to understand a simple post or continue down their own little alley which doesn't make any sense at all.

Say, for instance, not being able to understand the difference between cultural appropriation and sending people good wishes on their religious festivals.

OnwardandUpward Tue 06-Apr-21 09:11:46

Well they didn't mention Passover (27th March-4th April) so I don't suppose they remembered the Jews either.

I might be wrong, but don't think its a party-wide thing. Just someone's Twitter banner? He probably made it himself to reflect his own beliefs?

OnwardandUpward Tue 06-Apr-21 09:13:15

OK Alegrias1 I will read it more and see if I can figure it out. Thanks for your honesty and wisdom.

Alegrias1 Tue 06-Apr-21 09:15:08

Political parties mentioning Passover:

Not the Conservatives though?

Alegrias1 Tue 06-Apr-21 09:17:58

If you google Conservatives and Passover you get a whole different set of answers to what I was looking for.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 06-Apr-21 09:18:24

Boris Johnson wished the Jewish Community Chag Sameach.

I’ll just leave this here.....perhaps we should leave the politicians to their dirty point scoring and cultural appropriation and let them get on with it.
Yet another poster who has completely missed the point

Seeing something differently = completely missing the point.

I’m suitably humbled, as I’m sure all the others who have missed the point are.

You’re still missing the point imo. And I’m not even sure that messages of support are routinely posted for Ramadan by political parties but for Eid. But who knows what will happen this year?

GrannyGravy13 Tue 06-Apr-21 09:22:25

Just because I do not agree with you suziewoozie does not mean that I have missed the point

Gannygangan Tue 06-Apr-21 09:25:59

This caused an upset a few years ago. Let's not just blame Conservatives. As has been mentioned, maybe all political parties should steer clear of religious festivals.

Why can it not be accepted, no one can own/ claim Good Friday, Christ died for all.

My thoughts exactly SW. It has been said on this thread that atheists think of Jesus and Santa Claus in the same way and that wasn’t very nice. As for the OP, I see it as an unthinking gaffe with no particular political agenda.

Hear, hear

I did wonder about the wording of the OP

suziewoozie Tue 06-Apr-21 09:31:52

Imo I think it might be better all round if political parties weren’t jumping on the ‘happy everything’ bandwagon which has grown exponentially in recent years, fuelled by Twitter. Imagine the terror now of missing one festival out and the opprobrium that would rain down as the omission was analysed and dissected as to its meaning. If individual MPs felt they absolutely had to post their best wishes for the world ( or at least their followers) to see they could no it with whatever image they wanted without the name and logo of their political parties.
Messages from the Pope, A of C and any other leader of a Christian group are imo the only truly acceptable ones to mark important Christian festivals. The politicians should just butt out or at least leave their party logos at home.

Anniebach Tue 06-Apr-21 09:34:11

I agree suziewoozie
